Organizing Separate Email Segments?

Hi,

My ultimate goal is to drive more of my email subscribers and leads to become web service clients and I have a question about managing multiple email lists.

1) I sell a book that I use to try to get clients for web services. I populate my mailing list by giving away free samples. Owners of the book also get updates so I have their email address, too. I send a weekly email out to these two lists (the same email because the goal is the same) to try to get them to convert to web clients.

2) I'm going to be adding a site that will appeal to some parts of my market, but not all. I am going to have a separate list for this website and this segment.

But how do I integrate the two in the sense that some people on the first list would probably like to see the content from the second list, and vice-versa. Should I expect them to signup for two different newsletters from my company?

Thanks!

I think that you should have different list for both and send an email to the first list asking them to opt in to the second if they're interest and the same for the second. You would just have to make sure you send out both emails at roughly the same time to prevent confusion by your readers.

There are many ways to do this. A separate list being one of them. You can also create a custom field, and pass data into that so that you get to record the referrer, or the campaign, but in the same list.

If there are two different interests, and two different marketing campaigns, then you need a subscriber to be in both.

Great advice from you both. Thank you.

    1. Would it make sense then to put up a standard "coming soon - signup for the beta or to be notified when we are live", etc. page at the new website URL to start building the list?

    2. And then would it also be a good idea to send out an email to the current lists that says the same thing. "As subscribers to our list.....we wanted to reward your loyalty and give you the opportunity to signup for our beta for the new site..."

    Thanks,
