Hi Guys,

Ive just joined the forum so Hi all !

Quick question - I am new to IM, I have just listened to the Laptop Millionaire and the 4 hour work week on iTunes. Looking to get started and its a minefield out there! I have looked at a few coach/mentor programs but again, there are so many.

Any advice for someone just starting out.. I am looking to get going with something that will generate a couple hundred a month, just want to prove the concept before moving onto bigger things. I am leaning towards something involving facebook but am open minded.

My son, 11, is about to do an entrepreneurial week at school and I was also looking for something he could do - maybe youtube based, something better than going round washing cars are baking cupcakes.. something for the 21st century entrepreneur!

Many thanks,
Luke.

  • I would suggest going to the WSO section and picking up a popular WSO with good reviews..

Then stick to it until you succeed.. Beware of information overload.

    Cheers,

    Gary

    • Thank you Gary... heading there now!

    • This is the last thing you should do. Too many of the "good reviews" you'll find are manufactured by the seller's friends. Save your money. Use the search feature here. There's plenty of info out there (and here) you can get free. Once you get a feel for what you think you might like to do then take a look at buying a course. If you really feel you need courses then join the War Room. There are thousands of WSOs in there and they're all free. Good luck.
  • Thank you guys.. appreciating the advice!

I suggest you avoid spending money until you've spent a lot of time reading the forum in areas that interest you. There's a ton of free information. Spend money when you've got an idea or the beginning of a plan and need additional tools or information to get it going. Throwing spaghetti on a wall to see what sticks is the fast way to lose a lot of money when starting out and you'll just end of getting frustrated and feeling ripped off when the money you've spent doesn't pan out.

    • Thank you Suzanne - useful advice!
  • Hi Luke,

There's no need to go out and buy products, there is PLENTY of free information out there on this forum and blogs which will often provide far more value than the products you have to pay for anyway.

Have a read of some methods posted on here and some internet marketing blogs and then focus on one of them. Good luck on your online earning journey.

  • There's your first mistake and you're ready to follow up with a second one.

I will venture a guess that most of the IMers here that have ever made full time income did not buy a bunch of info products or hire coaches. They worked hard and noted their mistakes and kept experimenting until they found something that paid off.

No good can come from reading stuff like 'The 4 Hour Work Week' because it will fill your head with BS that will distract you from learning real knowledge, which can be derived only from DIRECT EXPERIENCE.

    • Right on Performance Man.

Luke find a market you are interested in that has a tie in you can make money on. If you're into electronic for example and know a lot about it start generating content of value that you can use to build an audience. Search around for ways to distribute that knowledge and build a following. Then A/B test the hell out of everything. Keep doing what works and stay away or try altering what did not.

Nobody has a magic formula and different styles, markets and methods will vary based on the person doing them. Only through trying different strategies will you find what works best for you.
    • PerformanceMan, you are so right! That was the first book I read a couple of years ago, and it set me up for failure. I found out the hard way that internet marketing, at least for the very successful IMers, is a lot sweat equity and commitment.

Also, I have found the IMers in the business actually like what they do, so they put a lot of hours in doing it, as opposed to just looking at this business as a way to make money without doing any work.
  • I think there are quite a few very valuable WSOs that can help you make at least a few hundreds a month. You just have to weed out the bad ones, and stick to one that really appeals to you and try to apply everything the seller teaches.

    • techbul, that's actually sort of the problem for anyone starting out.....sorting through the bad ones. That happened to me. I caution anyone just starting out to buy anything, really.

Here's a tip, if you have no idea what's even available in the internet marketing world to make money online.

Go to google.com, go to images, and type in internet marketing. You will see hundreds in of images with "ways" and "ideas" to make money online.

Review the images and it will give you a sense of what the internet marketing world is all about. I am visual person, so it helped me.
  • Go to the warroom and scope out lots of freebies. Cross reference with the main forum. Figure out your ROI target and get to work.

    • Yeah I wrote a post about getting started a few days ago.

      Anyway....

Information overload is a huge factor but as said before hit up the "War Room"

Tons of sweet value in there for free.

      But....

Before doing that you need to have a clear understanding of
"What You Really Want To Achieve". Internet Marketing isn't a hobby
its a lifestyle and you have to know if you want this lifestyle because working
for yourself requires alot of hard work and patience.

The WSO section is good and bad because you can get bogged down with
all the information. The simplest route is to look through this forum and find
a "model" that you can work and stick with it until it "works". Remember no
method will work unless you take action.

Another thing you have to understand is "How Much Are You Willing To Sacrifice"
When building an internet business you will have to put in a lot of effort and time
in the beginning. DON'T get caught in the perpetual "dream" of overnight riches
it just doesn't exist all you have is hard work, patience and TIME. You keep
repeating this until you become successful.

The last thing I want to say is PLEASE BUILD YOUR OWN EMAIL LIST!
Having an email list is like having the most powerful force in internet marketing.
No one can take away your power online if you build your list and manage it
      effectively.

Two marketers you should learn from in the beginning in my opinion are:
Robert Plank And Jason Fladlien especially Jason Fladlien.
These two have helped me tremendously in getting my internet career
off the ground. You don't need the $1000+ Guru stuff just simple basics
and the ability to TAKE MASSIVE ACTION!

      Peace

      Tre
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I disagree with a few comments about getting everything free and never buying information or hiring a coach...

Yes, just about everything there is to know about anything can be found for "free"... but is it really free? That depends on how you value your time, and I'd venture to say your time is not free. In fact that's the whole reason any of us got started on this journey was for time freedom.

Personally I've spent over 120k on coaching and products, worth every penny because I've been living life on my terms now for 8 years.

The only thing I would stay away from are magical "systems" that claim the tooth fairy will leave you a check for a bazzilion dollars under your pillow without telling you what's involved. (Blind copy)

Bottom line is your gonna sell stuff online... traffic + offer = sales. Simple yes, keep it that way and you'll never get overwhelmed.

  • I often see posts like this and I think to myself what would I say to my little 16 year old newbie self knowing what I know now??

    I'll give it a shot!

    - Don't get lost in all the sea of information, find one thing that you think you could work with and focus on that until you master it.

    - Don't just go out there looking for strategies, work on yourself as well, if you don't have the right mind-set, you will fail.

    - Write down your "WHY". Why do you want to start in the IM field?

    - Treat your business as that, a business, not just a hobby you can just forget about for a few weeks.

    - Learn something new every single day.

    - Work on your business every day, even if its just a small amount, make it better than it was yesterday.

    - Believe in yourself whole-heartedly, you have to do this before anyone else will!

Now, in your post you said you want something Facebook related? Are you wanting to sell on Facebook? Network on Facebook? Do you just like being on Facebook? Hehe

I am actually on Facebook A LOT, I mean A LOT lol. Literally with any business you can incorporate Facebook so that is kind of irrelevant. I connect daily with my mentors and my team and even potential customers on Facebook but my business isn't anything to do with Facebook whatsoever!

Your idea for your son with Youtube is good, young ones are good at that sort of stuff. There is a young 13 year old girl over here in NZ who started making really stupid funny videos, she now has a following of over 1 million people! I was trying to build up a "Facebook Page" type thing about a year ago and I was stressing so much about how to get "likes", one day I logged onto my little 13 year old sisters Facebook by accident and I noticed she had a "page" set up for Miley freaking Cyrus and had over 9000 likes! I was gob smacked.

I love how kids just get in and get things done, we have a little 12 year old boy in our network who made $12,000 in 4 months.. It's like they just don't have that same fear of failing adults have so they go all in like its a game. Don't be surprised if your son overtakes you hehe

Good luck, don't lose faith! It's not all roses and candy but when you get to that AHA moment it is all up from there!!
  • Just learn to walk before you run. Earning your first buck is the hard part, after you gain experience and learn from mistakes, just scale it up. The War room here at warrior will give you enough to get you started.

    • Thank you every one for taking the time to reply!

Lots of inspiration and advice - much appreciated!

  • I would agree to go in WSO section and pick the WSO's there. But I would also like to recommend you to join the War Room member section it is just a one time membership payment and you'll definitely learn a lot of IM stuffs there. So the money you've spent is not useless.
  • Hi Luke,

My best advice for you is to focus most of your efforts on
these following 2 areas as much as possible:

    1. Build a list

    2. Create products that you can sell to that list

Of course there are skills you will need to learn to achieve this
but I don't want to give you the dreaded INFORMATION OVERLOAD!

Learn as much as you can about these 2 areas & then plan around
your GOALS etc to make sure you take action on what you've learned.

Hope this helps & remember that it always seems impossible until
    it has been achieved!

    All the best
    Gavin
  • The top-drawer Facebook guru of my acquaintance is Dr. Ben Adkins. He does a series of products called the "Evil Facebook Magician." They're inexpensive and packed with great content. Do a search, you'll find them.

Nothing in this for me. No affiliate link. No financial incentive. Just a straight-up pointer to the guy I see as the expert in my circles. There are other Facebook experts, there are other business methods, there are certainly other products. (Oh, BOY are there other products.) But if you're leaning Facebook, Dr. Ben's stuff is a good place to look.
  • Hi Luke, my suggestion is there are a lot of info and products and most of them are free. The most important item on the agenda is learn how to build your list. You might want to visit my site at listbuildingsytemacademy.com where I am giving a free eCourse.
  • I found great value in this particular wso by Paul Nicholls not affliated with him in any way but the guy just provides tremendous value in this wso.
