Pet furniture mark up?

I'm getting into the pet furniture market, making my own products.
Online retailers may be one avenue to pursue, but for the life of me
I'm not able to find any info on what their mark up is, generally speaking.
The price point will be from the low 100's to the $450 range.

Thanks!!

It will vary, of course. I would guesstimate between 25-40%.

Let's say I was going to crate a cat scratching post. What I'd do first is find out the retail price range for a nice one. Then I gather together all the stuff I'd need to get the finished product. Then I'd make the thing and record the time spent.

How much do you need to sell this item for to make it worth your time? How much can you reasonably expect to get for it wholesale taking the retail price into consideration?

That's about it. I think most merchants are looking or hoping to double their investment when buying stuff to sell. Some want much more and some, less depending on the market. The question is, can you create something of quality and sell it cheap enough to make both you and the retailer happy?

Go after the high end market for pets...It's custom!! If done well, you will attract Hollywood pet owners! You can always offer discounts for those that subscribe to your email list(pet's birthday). Start high, make it worth your time.
