Who makes money as an Amazon affiliate?

Just set up my first wordpress/amazon affiliate site - How To Clean Windows Is anyone here making decent money from being an amazon affiliate?

If so am I going about it the right way? I figured I'd a site on something that I have product knowledge of (owned a highrise window cleaning business in the past), and it happens that it seems to be a pretty good niche.

How many sales can you realistically expect from a basic affiliate review site?

I never had much luck with Amazon. For some reason they closed my account with some money in there still. Don't know what's up with that.

Good luck with your site, looks nice.

I will post categories, just running off post names atm until I figure out the structure I want to go with

I only built the site yesterday so I have no meaningful traffic data yet, but here is the keyword research data I gathered for the niche (all low competition "phrase" or "exact" match keywords.

Keywords: "how to clean a window" - 880
"how to wash windows" - 1,600
"how to clean windows" - 8,100
    "how to wash a window" - 73
“how to clean window” - 2,900
“how to clean glass” - 9,900
Total - approx. 13,550 phrase match searches a month

    Secondary Keywords:
“how to clean mirrors” - 880
    “cleaning dirty windows” - 260
“cleaning windows with vinegar” - 720
“best way to clean windows” - 6,600
“best way to wash windows” - 5,400
    “window washing solution” - 2,400
Total - approx. 16,200 phrase match searches a month

That's a total of 30K per month low competition phrase match keyword searches that should be pretty easy to rank for considering a poor quality article on wikihow can get this many hits!

After discovering this i made an 8 minute tutorial video and uploaded it to youtube where everything from the username to the tags is search engine optimized and then embedded the video on my site - How To Clean Windows Like A Pro « How To Clean Windows

Tomorrow I will break down the contents of the video into a written step by step tutorial with images and submit it along with the video to wikihow, which should provide bulk flow through traffic and boost page rank dramatically at the same time.

Wikihow uses 'nofollow' links so you definitely won't be boosting PR linking from there.

Websites like that aren't meant to boost your SEO, if you link to your site you should be getting direct traffic to it from those links.

        Wow!!!! Nice work!

It's people like you, who give a damn about some random little thing that at some point I'm going to want/need to know about, who makes life better for me when I go on the internet to figure out how to do it.

As for making money as an amazon affiliate, you might have a pretty good chance, since you may get a lot of traffic, and the cost to buy the products is pretty low (volume over high prices). Just curious... I've never done this, but is there some way people can click on a single link and have multiple amazon products added to their cart at once? So you could sell like a "best products window cleaning kit" and auto-fill their shopping cart with $50 in quality merchandise at once? Man.. that could be killer...

Also, if that were my site, I'd offer a free ebook on how to best clean windows. I'd collect the email addresses and once a month, send out an email talking about cool new products for maintaining a house. It could be a mix of amazon links, affiliate products, etc. I suspect you could do quite well with a mailing list. There's always homeowners out there trying to reduce the amount of time they spending cleaning and repairing stuff.

        Cheers! And best of luck!

Oh. But PLEASE go on fiverr.com and get a better logo for your website. I have no doubt that someone could improve that a lot for $5. And it kinda detracts from the quality of your information.

I've had some success with amazon before it's totally worth giving a try and what's the worse that could happen you have a few links on your site or banners that simply don't convert?

I've found that writing blog posts and adding the link to the product in the text link works best and even having a banner in the side bar of your site is useful. It's all about traffic though so make sure that you have a good amount of targeted traffic coming to your site.

I know a few people who make a great deal of money using amazon from a review site! Making money on amazon is there, I guess it just takes a little bit of luck and lots of high quality content.

I hope to have more luck with it later down the road!

I just took a quick look at your site. It looks like you purchased it in September last year. I am guessing it came up for renewal and you decided to try and make some money off it. With a site that has just been cretaed and no traffic it is going to take a lot of work and an a few months before you are seeing a decent amount of traffic.

When you do start seeing traffic you will on average get only a 1% to 2% clickthru rate. So for every 100 people you are going to only get 1 or 2 people. Then once these couple of people click on your affiliate link you are only going to get about 7% commission.

Now let's look at your site one more time and condiser this. Your site domain is: howtocleanawindow.net. It would be easy to change this site to a clickbank site and sell a registry cleaner product for Windows. When I search on Clickbank the first one I find pays 75% in commission which converts to about $20 per sale.

To make $20 on Amazon you would have to sale almost $300 worth of products. Now I am not promoting Clickbank I am just showing you a different affiliate that could allow you to make more money.

    Good Luck,

    Michael

eGranny the site was just a theme I purchased called azon theme of wp. Basically the site looks like that straight out of the box. Writing the content was easy as I owned a high rise window cleaning business for 10 years, same for video. Spent about 10 hours on it all up

Thanks Benny. Not sure about the multiple products with one link thing. The good thing is you only need to get 7 sales per week on amazon to go from 4% commission to 6%, literally increasing your commissions by 50%.

With regards to the ebook, once the site has some decent traffic I'm going to incorporate a high ticket item that I will create myself about everything you need to know to start your own high profit window cleaning business ($97) product, which should help juice up revenues from the site a bit!

Yeah I purchased the domain last year, but only decided to build something on it a couple of days ago. I'm not counting on a huge income from amazon, but will be using it as a platform to launch high ticket info products I'm creating myself about how to start and increase profits of a window cleaning business.

Michael has a good point, I have dozens of sites, some promoting my own products, some promoting affiliate information products and some promoting Amazon products. I will say that the sites promoting information bring in 10X+ the profit for the same traffic than the Amazon sites. I have found a couple of niches in Amazon that do reasonably well, but I would NEVER make this my primary income source online - not in a Million years!

I've made money with Amazon in the past, still do a little bit. Years ago, when I was making more with it, it was through a website that got lots of traffic in a niche that wasn't as competitive as it is now. Anyway, these days Amazon is just one of a few monetization methods I use, never just Amazon alone. I know some folks do well with it however. Good luck!

            It's pretty straightforward...

Identify low-competition products in a niche you are knowledgeable in and review them from the angle of a third-party reporter.

Since the products are low-comp, you can usually rank with zero backlining. With just an hour per day, you can earn a significant monthly income.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

I did i think close to $200,000 in Sales with the Amazon Associates program Which gave me about 12k in Affiliate commisions but I started back in 2010

The one thing I really like from Amazon is its Hard to fail and is perfect for newbies. however you might want to try other sources of income like CPA which can definitely make you more money in the long run

Anyways all the best to you!

Sure you can make money using the Amazon Associates program. Just like any business it takes work and a long term vision.

I checked out your site and my advice would be to make sure it is appealing not just to search crawlers but to humans. To me it looks like an obvious internet marketing website which would have me bounce off faster than you can say 'make money online'.

You can pickup a good Amazon mini site theme with rich snippet and an inbuilt review system for $30 and get a header designed for just $5. Worth the money.

I just made my first $2.54 two days ago.

I'm a newbie and feel Amazon is a good way to get my feet wet and start learning my way around affiliate marketing. The $2.54 is like a nibble when fishing... it may just be a small fish nibbling but at least you know the bait is attracting someone... now to fish for the bigger fish.

BTW, I just started with Amazon Affiliate program two weeks ago. My nibble came from a WP site I recently converted to product reviews. www.bobsrantsandraves.com.

I'm not counting on Amazon to make a ton of money... but it is a good filler until I learn the ins and outs thanks to the experts on the Warrior Forum.

Lol - I made around $2 my first month as an Amazon affiliate. I thought I should take the links off my site but I was too lazy.

I'm glad I didn't since now I'm making around $500 a month with Amazon. It's been...6 months. Whereas it's not big money, I really like Amazon for a few reasons:

        1. Their range of products. I always get a bunch of orders for stuff I had nothing to do with.
        2. The reason above leads to high conversion rates. I have a 16% conversion rate which I think is pretty good.
        3. Even though I'm not making a lot of money (yet), I like the fact that it's consistently growing every month.

To the OP - just keep at it. Your site is helpful and I like how the links are pretty much all contextual. Good job!

You'll need to shift a lot of squeegees to make some good money, it's possible of course, you just nee to stick at it, become the Authority on this stuff.

I'd get a decent logo, someone mentioned fiverr earlier.

Replace the Amazon widget, I'd put a decent video in here, a "TOP 5 Product review" works well.

I'd also loose the scrolling framed content.

          Good luck.

Amazon affiliate is not part of my internet marketing arsenal but I know of two great ladies here who do make money from it. And, serious money.

Erica Stone and Tiffany Dow. They are both succesfull and very ethical. I am not an affiliate but I thought I'd mention them because they are indeed making money and I am sure you could benefit from their expertise.

Both are quite present on this forum. I think Erica Stone's alias here is "sojourn".

    Hope this helps.
