Fan Fiction

Anyone got their grubby little marketing fingers into the fan fiction pie?

I hear Amazon is about to open up Kindle Worlds for fan fiction authors however I read that it wont be such a good program because of the lack of characters and worlds allowed to be used.

I had an idea for a fantastic fan fiction novel that used movie and film characters as well as real life people in the media and politics, I wonder if something like that could be used as blog content and monetized with adsense???

    I enjoy reading fanfiction. There are a lot of good ones at fanfiction.net

    Monetising it would be a good idea as long as there are no legal issues (copyrighted characters etc).

      Well thats the thing isnt it.

      Thats why I was thinking if you used ads you may be able to get away with it, technically still legal issues as its commercialised but... who knows.

    No, that's trade dress or copyright violation. You can't make any money from the product itself or anything uniquely coming from the story universe. I have seen, however, free fan production "gifts" tossed in with licensed merchandise. Not sure what was happening there in terms of being a licensed trader.
