Download and Open File problem.

Error: "Adobe Reader could not open because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged."

I'm trying to open a file from the War Room. Almost every time I try to open a file I get this message or it just will not open for me. I have a very hard time learning, and understanding these type's of problems. I have a new laptop so I figured everything I needed to open a file would be on here already. Can anybody help me with this problem?

If you gave a link, we could determine whether it's you or the file. Or you could post this in the thread where the link is.

It's me because every file I try to open does this. I just posted this in the war room on one of downloads I'm trying to open.

Clear your cookies and cache, and reboot the machine.

If that doesn't work, uninstall adobe reader and reinstall it

If at all possible post the error in your thread, that you are receiving when you try to open the file. You may also want to download adobe reader again to make sure you have a good version.

A .rar file is an archived file. You need a program like winzip, 7-Zip or any other to uncompress it first before using Adobe to open and view the contents.

Go and download a software similar to WinZip called "Winrar". It will open the contents of the "rar" file for you. If that doesn't work, ask the product owner if they can upload the contents of the product for you in a ".zip" format (this is a WinZip format). You can get both Winzip and Winrar online for free.

        @hsbinmarket and OP
GIMP, which is free and open source, will open and edit any .psd file. In addition, GIMP is available for any platform, Windows, Mac, BSD (my OS), Linux (my OS).

Foxit, also free, is a great alternative to Adobe's virus prone PDF reader.

Keep in mind that pdf's can contain executable scripts (viruses), especially when using Adobe products to view them. You should always scan any file that you download, including those attached to email before opening them.

Norton, or Mcafee, which often comes pre-installed on many Windows computers, are both garbage and very unsafe.

Unistall them, then download and install a good free firewall like ZoneAlarm, and a good anti-virus like AVG. Throw in a good malware detector like SuperAntiSpyware and you will be able to secure your PC. Keep them updated.

A really good way to check downloaded files for viruses is to head over to virus total dot com and use their online scanner. They have approximately 45 or so of the top anti-malware/anti-spyware/anti-virus applications installed on their server and let you scan your suspect file for free (using ALL of those programs). It's fast, free, and gives you access to more resources than you can ever own yourself. You can also scan a suspect file remotely, that is right from its download URL, without having to download it to your computer first.

i second randall's suggestion. winrar is a free program that you can download which will help you open .rar file.

.rar files are "archived" which is just another way of saying that the content has been compressed to save space. By using winrar, you will essentially be "unpacking" the contents of the file into something that you can read/access.

Are you aware that most downloads from the war room are zipped, and you need to unzip them?

When you open the first folder there will be a link in the folder heading saying 'extract all files' or something like that. Click on that first and the new extracted folder should be trouble free, if that was your problem.

If you have a new computer, you shouldn't need to download Winzip. Just try and open the file directly from the download - you should be given the option to "extract" the file. Don't try and open it in adobe until you have extracted it.

I downloaded winrar then extracted the files. I'm getting the same message when I try to open the files with adobe. Thanks everybody for your help. I will figure it out maybe.

Uninstall Adobe, Clear cache, Reinstall Adobe. Extract Files with Winrar into a new Folder then open with Adobe should be no problems. Still not working for me. I tried two separate downloads to make sure it was me, and not the down load links.

I think ur file is not properly downloaded.
It may due to slow internet or poor connectivity. Some portion of data is missing.
Confirm the file size before and after download. Also make sure the file u r trying to open with Adobe reader is readable by Adobe Reader.
