Buying a List?

I once purchased a list of 30k people and nothing came from it...

However, I have generated some of my own list and had some good results...
It just depends one how he is collecting them in my opinion

Don't buy a list. Create your own. You have to question why the person is selling the list in the first place AND to how many people he/she already sold to.

Solo ads = buying a list.

The 80/20 rule comes into play when buying lists, 80% of lists will fail and the majority will come from the 20%

Plus it all really comes down to how powerful of an offer you have, if you have a a sucky offer it doesn't matter how good the list is..

You'l usually want to hire a list broker instead of dealing with a site like that though..

I know nextmark is good, just make sure to stay away from compiled lists

actually nextmark is not that good, and I know several good marketers that do not like that resource. But to each and their own.

The best list is always going to be fresh leads you generate your own, who like and trust your stuff.

Buying a list is't a good option. Nobody will sell there list if it is of good quality.

So take some time and create your own list.

stay away from buying somebody's list. not worth it at all. you don't know his/her list quality, how did they signed up, etc.

I suggest you don't go and buy a list, but it's your choice in the end. I think there are better ways to spend your money.

I would advice you go with solo ads. That way the owner of the list is able to introduce you to his list. Buying a list is not usually a good idea.

Solo ads are the way to go if you want to use a list you haven't built up.

To an internet marketer, your list is your golden ticket to wealth and success. Why would a good list full of people that will buy products be sold to you? (unless it was for a huge price)

You will likely be buying a crap list that you may never get a sale out of. Also, who knows why those people signed up for that mailing list to begin with. Maybe it was a list for diet supplements and you sell camping gear. Just build your own over time with targeted people.

Start slowly. Buying a huge list is not an investing it's a speculation, e.g. buy and pray it works. You can buy solos from 3-4 vendors and test which one is working better for your product Then buy more from the same person.

Are you sure the person actually built the list? What I mean by that is, are you sure it was not a scraped list? Check your resource thoroughly before you get into this. You don't want to get spam complaints later on, now do you?

Personally, I'd never buy a list. The people I'm mailing to will not know me, and therefore, they won't trust me. It's a simple as that. Email marketing is all about relationship building, and you don't want to lose their trust in the very first step.

But, solo ads are good. Solo ad sellers actually built the list (at least, they should have) and they give permission to email their subscribers. If they are interested, they respond to your offer. If not, no harm.

So, if you are set on buying a list, do so, but be careful, and do your due diligence.

I just talked to them on the phone today.

They are getting list through multiple sites so they are opt-in emails.
However, They are resold.
They quoted me 1,000,000 Emails for 900 bucks though.
Which is not too bad...

Buying a list is not a good idea. Better make your own list like everyone said.. it will take time but it will be worth your time to have your own list !

You can always buy a list, but don't think they will be of any use. Some things are a dime a dozen, but an email list are $39.95 a billion :p

The idea of leads generation via list is a great idea but i would rather build my own list than buying one.
So start working on your list.Start small and soon you will be talking of a long list of leads

The problem with buying a list is once you've sent your first email, you've just spammed all the contacts!!

No relationship, no value, no point!!!

Its better you stay away from purchased lists. Too many headaches to make that worthwhile. There are much better effective ways of building up your list fast.

There are many factors involved when buying a list. You can have some success when buying a list, but in most cases you will likely be better off spending your advertising dollars elsewhere.

You could contact some experts in your list and ask them for a solo ad.

I haven`t bought a list before,but the risk is that the subscribers isn`t that targeted. You should focus on building your own list from targeted trafficsources and build the relationship with your subscribers from scratch.

I have purchased lists before from list-building
services ( where they display your opt-in from
across a network).This worked great but the
service that I really liked went out of business.

I've also purchased lists/ezines from people
who were leaving a given niche (for whatever
reason) and wanted to sell off assets.

In this second case, I arranged to just leave
their lists where they were and take over their
autoresponder accounts. I first reviewed their
terms of service to confirm that they weren't
breaking promises to subscribers by selling me
the lists. Next I had them send their subscribers
a note informing them that I was taking over the
lists but little else would change.

With this second type of list, I introduced
myself in the first email from me, and then
gradually started building a relationship with
subscribers.

ALL of the lists that I purchased have continued
to grow with very little effort on my part and
are profitable. I do have all of those
autoresponders configured to post to social
media sites, and that is where the majority of
my new subscribers come from.

I do track the profitability on my purchased
lists and they are all profitable. If they
weren't I'd probably just delete them and write
it off as a bad investment :-)
