My Method to Find Out If a Keyword is REALLY Getting Searches Or Not

Hi Warriors,

This is probably obvious to a lot of you but it's a relatively new realization for me so I thought I'd post it anyway.

There's a lot of discussion about how no KW tool (even Google's!) is 100% accurate.

Well, here's a way to test those keywords before you go to all that time (possibly money, if you outsource) on writing articles for them.

Plug your keywords into Adwords and see how many impressions/clicks they get over a day.

If you leave the campaign run for a week you'll get a pretty good idea of which keywords actually get searches and which do not.

Of course, you've gotta GET the keywords first, and that's where those tools come in... but I thought this was a strategy worth pointing out.

What are your thoughts? Can anyone see a problem with this strategy I'm missing?

Well, the main unknowns you didn't mention was the competitiveness of the keywords and the conversion rates, but your strategy is not too unlike mine. Keep in mind that some keywords that sound pretty good initially may get a lot of clicks from people that are not looking for what you are offering.

A good point. I was more talking about the accuracy of the SEARCHES for the keyword tools, but making sure it converts is important too.

    Daniel,

Take any given keyword and there will be long tail variations of that main keyword in the 1000s.

My website gives me detailed search analysis so I can see exactly what keywords and keyword phrases resulted in people landing on any given page on my sites.

Around 80% come from long tail keyword phrases even if I rank first page for my pages main keyword focus.

So, when your writing an article or a webpage for that matter you should try to wrap words around your main keyword which will likely be searched without making your copy sound funny.

Actually if you just naturally write good content most of this works it's self out naturally.

    Just some thoughts,

    Cheers,
    Zac
