SLAM them with TONS of promotions MULTIPLE times a day! Lol...

Okay you caught me. Totally not serious.

Well, I think being real goes a long way. Be a real person, not Mr. Super Fancy Serious Person all the time.

Then when you tell them you're going to do something, actually do what you said you were going to do, and make sure your stuff is good.

Personally, I think getting on video is really good, because there's so much "noise" out there, and the internet is impersonal.

Why do you think all these network marketers are hanging out in Google Hangouts? Because being on video builds trust to the max.

    Um... Then...

But you have to do it right. There's too many people who just get on video who don't get to the point and just ramble and ramble. That's not good. Have a purpose and carry it out.

Telling stories is huge. Revealing the small details about your life, from behind the curtain. Makes you vulnerable but it makes you authentic.

Obviously you will take flack from some people on your list when you do these things, but that probably builds trust even more to be able to deal with it maturely.

Give them value... Don't email them everyday with an offer or promotion. Give them something free that they can use. And it doesn't always have to be a free e-book or something maybe if you found or read something really interesting that you just had to share send out a broadcast. Also treat them as if you were talking to someone... not just email addresses.

      Hope this helps,

      David

By gradually earning their trust and respect, which I do through a combination of expectation-setting and fulfilment, and a continuity-process. This might help: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6123982

I agree with Marc. Telling stories is great to build trust.

Just don't make up a story. Tell your REAL story. Your journey towards making money online for example...

People don't buy products because the products are good. They buy cause the follow their emotions

By the way, you should probably tell us more details about how you're currently interacting with your list right now, what efforts you are making, and what the results of that is.

At least that way we can make specific recommendations to boost the response, related to your particular process and what you're already doing.

There's a step between turning an opt-in into a repeat
    customer.

You need to first turn an opt-in subscriber into a
    first-time buyer.

Make an irresistible offer and deliver MASSIVE value
    on your first front-end offer.

Give them what they want and what you promise -
    and more.

Then make highly relevant offers to turn the first-time
    buyer into a repeat buyer.

(The most important sale you make is the second sale
but most people don't focus on that).

To get repeat sales over and over, you also need to
focus on building a strong bond between you and your
    customer.

    Dedicated to mutual success,

    Don't we all?

That comes from "marketers" who imagine that just because you've opted in, it's somehow both legitimate and sensible for them to send you absolutely anything they want to, as often as they want to. There's a turnover of those people. They use up quite a bit of emotional energy, convincing themselves that open-rates below 10% are "normal" in internet marketing (and there's probably even a tiny minority who do achieve success that way, and they're always the ones people hear most about, of course). The ones who don't learn/improve are typically in the industry for 6-12 months or so, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more, before deciding that internet marketing "doesn't really work" and dropping out. But of course their places are continually taken by others who do exactly the same.

The unsubscribe link is always a useful one, in such cases.

Show them BEFORE they opt in that you're the real deal, know what you are talking about and have the knowledge they want THEN ask them to opt in / buy.

It's much easier to build trust before they are on the list than it is afterwards IME.

The emails I send to my list are usually tips and free tutorials / training.

I insert here and there a product that I promote and describe how I use it for that particular strategy.

Everything I promote I currently use and I remind this to my subscribers every time I have the occasion to do so.

So, I try to educate, first and after that promote. It works pretty well for me.

I like jumping in front of a camera and doing videos that way, I also like doing live events like webinars and google hangouts, the sort of thing that people are afraid to do are the reason I'm able to make so much money in this business..

Everyone wants to hide, let people know your real, provide value, inspire and entertain..

I personally just about everyday with stuff like that. Works great..

      Boiling down some excellent answers:

Be real. Treat people like people, not ATMs or credit cards or wallets. Say what you'll do and do what you say. Don't lie to people or abuse their permission, because you can lose that permission with one little twitch of the mouse finger...

First, you have to look at your list not as subscribers, but as a collection of people looking for a solution to a problem.

Second, and this is not talked about enough when it comes to "building a relationship", is to engage your subscribers. Ask them to take action, not to buy something, but to engage in dialog and conversation with you.

Relationships are built on trust. If there is no trust, there is no relationship. At that point, you are merely acquaintances.

I am speaking from the point of view of being on someone's list. While I know they (especially those in the IM niche) are using their list to make money - the ones that I stay subscribed to (in many niches) have these elements in common:

      1. They are personable and real. They tell real stories about their lives.
      2. They do not send me emails every day.
      3. They do not promote every new thing out there.
      4. They give me quality and useful info in their emails.
      5. When they do promote, they do so in a way that shows me they have actually read the pdf, watched the video or used the product. They know what they are talking about. It is not just a copy and paste email from the owner of said product.

Building a healthy relationship with your list is just like making a new friend. You don't rush your new friend with demands and demands without giving back something of your own.

I do my email marketing this way, providing lots of value and help as much as I could and still ask for the sale. In other words, you should try to provide real value and also recommend products you've personally used.

Also spicing up your emails with bits of your personal life can endear your list to wanting to hear from you all the time. Try and tap into their emotions, once in a while ask for advice even if you don't really need it. The connection establishes you as a real friend rather than just another name on their email inbox.

Easy, how does anyone earn some else's trust? By being honest and showing integrity. It comes through even thru the Internet, a fact many people do not consider.

Just provide your list with tremendous value and they will always love you for it. Give them your best tips and also do not recommend products to them that you do not believe in just to make a quick buck give them your honest recommendations.

Build trust by giving them actually useful content that really honestly works that they can't get anywhere else and is easy to implement that's free and is part of a story/continuous process of becoming a trusted part of their life, the right way. Avoid cross promoting bright shiny objects. Good point earlier in thread from Shaun about turning an optin into a first time buyer.

Video, video, video. I didn't even realize how important this is to building trust online today until I started buying all of the products recommended to me by one of my favorite IMers on YouTube. If you put out helpful videos, act like a real person, and are consistent with the quality of your content, you can sell just about anything to your fans (but don't overdo this part, or you'll start to lose those hard earned fans!) If you tell them that you're earning a commission on the product up front and it will support the channel but give them the negative aspects of the product too you may win more in the long run (they won't think you're cheating them). Good luck!

Wee, provide them with value. I know, I know, you've heard this a hundred times already, but there are still a lot of list owners who don't do this.

So yeah, provide a ton of value to your subscribers. Also, be a real person. Make them feel like they're your friend rather than your prospective customer.

They should trust that you'll always have their best interest in mind, and you should.

Also, don't hard sell your products. Mention it to them, and tell them why you think the product will be useful for them and their business, and you'll see higher conversions.

The best way to build trust with your list is through repetition (emailing daily). Another way to build trust with your subscribers is telling them you're going to do something then actually doing it. Of course none of this will work if you don't provide value to your list and you constantly pound them with offers.

I won't repeat what's already been said in this thread, but I will share with you a way that I am proactively doing in multiple niches that works extremely well.

    I do subscriber Q&A's.

My subscribers send me in questions, and I answer them in videos. THEY LOVE IT, because they know I'm talking directly to them.

I've never had such great engagement, and people are snapping up my stuff.

This can be applied in virtually any niche.

    Here's an example...

    PS - I don't send automated emails.

    JOhnny's reply is killer.

    1) When your subscriber know and understand you as a person, and even your personality, whether you are funny, excentric, boring as bat shit, bizarre, erotic....lol....or whatever people like it. They feel they know you!

    2) Do not give your customers what you think they want, ask them!? when I did this my income exploded.

    3) The most import one here : Make sure you customers know they are not just getting messages from and autoresponder. If you can, and this might take a bit of work, talk to most of them one on one. See what they doing, and offer them stuff for free, and they will become lifetime fans. People want to know they can go to someone for help.

BE THAT SOMEONE!, and you will see insane results.

I like everything except the "free" part :p

I often have subscribers pay me $100 for 30 minute Skype calls too (the ones that want to ask more personalized questions)

*Another reason I encourage people to get involved in marketplaces that they're knowledgeable in. I couldn't do any of this if I didn't know the industry. (as an expert)

A simple formula to follow that will help people trust you more is called the:

    KLT Formula

    This states that...
People will not trust you until the Like you
People will not like you until they get to know you

So basically adding in your own personality into each email will make a world of difference! Telling them what you had for breakfast, what you are looking forward too later this week, or a story related to the topic your writing about.

This will help your subscribers see you in a 3 dimensional view and as a real person -- NOT just another email that promotes products.

Also in order to gain this trust you must have their best interest at heart!
Talk to them as if you were talking to your mom or a close friend.

    - Give them free information that is worth paying for
    - Add some entertainment and humor into your emails to make people laugh
    - Promote products every so often in between your other free valuable emails
    - The products you do promote, buy them yourself so you can give an in depth explanation as to why you think your subscribers will benefit from it -- and show them what flaws it has.
