How do you brainstorm your ideas?

Hey Everybody,

I'm sure this has been done many times before but I'm interested in hearing how everybody brainstorms business/marketing ideas.

I am currently not putting any science into my ideas they just happen to pop into my head at random occasions. Then I create a file on the computer and just do a huge brain dump.

Sad thing is my brain seems to be most active after a few wines haha

What do you do to inspire creativity and ideas? How do you track and sort your ideas?

The best thoughts and ideas come when you're away from the computer, IM, and any stress. When you're relaxing and IM is the last thing on your mind, it's often ideas to do with IM and money making that springs into your mind. I put it down to your brain being more receptive and creative when it's not under stress.

The best advice I've been given about this came from Earl Nightingale. Here goes.

First thing in the morning, get out a yellow notepad and put your problem/opportunity/idea at the very top of the page. Then just below that, start writing ways to fix/monetize/use what you have posted at the top. Do this for 20-30 minutes every morning for 1 week.

You will literally have HUNDREDS of ideas by the end of the week. Most of them will stink...but some of them will be brilliant.

      Here's an example:

Get 100 affiliates to promote my new product for my upcoming launch

      List on JV Notify Pro
talk to every marketer I know
      list on WF
      Tweet about it
      facebook about it
      blog about it
      hire a JV broker
      pay for blog posts

and on and on and on

Follow the example Earl Nightingale gave and you'll have your issue solved...quickly!

      Cheers!

Yep, me too. I keep a whiteboard in my home office and I jot down ideas in the form of mind maps. Some people prefer to audio record their ideas, I suppose it depends upon how you learn best.

Difficult question and more difficult to answer. It's like asking someone to reveal their innovation, [innovations are not to be shared but to be put in place to make money out of it]
    just my personal thoughts

Fair enough datingworld, I understand it's a hard question. I wasn't asking for you to reveal your ideas or innovations just your method of brainstorming.

I see ideas and brainstorming methods as different things. My bad if I was asking something too personal.

Everyone else thanks for the great responses! I fully area with the ideas being generated away from the computer. I also enjoy a morning brainstorming session. Whiteboards are a internet marketers and business owners must have

I keep it on a mind map and later trace it back

When I really want to get creative and have a big brain dump, I have to get away from the computer.

I usually go outside, sit in my yard and go old school - pen and notepad.

Then I just write my thoughts and don't filter. I've come up with my best ideas this way. No distractions just my total focus.

Then when I'm done I'll start researching and filtering those ideas.

I have a notepad with me all the time. I get ideas literally ALL the time, and I note them down on my notepad. Then, when I find the time, I expand on some of them (the ones I like) and create a business plan for them.

That's how I do it. Also, I read a lot of material (I allocate time for learning new things for my businesses every day) and when I read about one idea or method, my brain pops out a dozen different ideas based on the idea I just read. I believe that learning of any form should never end, and that's the best way to keep the creative part of our brain active.
