Go to settings in wp and you will see the title and tagline.

The title that shows in the top of the browser window for each page is usually going to be a combination of the post or page title you have used, and your site title.

It will usually look like this:

My Post Title | My Blog Name

There are various SEO plugins you can use that will override this setting and allow you to set your own page titles on a post/page basis.

Depending on the theme you are using it may also have built in SEO settings.

Yeah just go into your General settings on the left. It will give you the option to rename your blog. Some SEO people say it should be a keyword followed by your blog name.

    I'm no SEO expert though.

Correct. So to change the title you would need to change the title of that post.

But if it's the homepage you are talking about then it's likely you have SEO settings as part of your theme or an SEO plugin installed and that is where you need to set/edit the homepage title tag.

On a regular blog using the standard wordpress theme with no additional SEO plugins installed, it will only show the blog title as the title tag on the homepage and nothing else. Since you are seeing the post title as well it leads me to believe you have additional SEO settings somewhere.

Your theme might have seo tags, scroll toward bottom of page to see if there are seo options.
