how do you Convert Word to Kindle?

Hi there,

I was wondering If anyone could help me in the right direction to finding out how I can take a book I have written in Word, and convert it to be accessible for Kindle and any Digital Download.

I have 3 or 4 books that I want to upload to the world, but I understand on places like amazon and kindle it can't just be a pdf, It needs to be done properly...

But where do I start? Where can I find the right info to learn how to do all this?

Cheers

Mike

    Hey Mike

There are free products, such as Calibre (Google: Calibre Download) that can do that for you.

Don't do the PDF thing - you're asking for trouble with formatting.

^^^^One of the reasons to do a bit of due diligence before listening to peoples advice at times^^^^^

As Will said you can use free stuff, or something like Kinstant Formatter or just YouTube "how to format a word document for Kindle".

That's how I learned and it's quite straightforward. Good luck.

  • You have to save your Word document as a "Web Page Filtered (html, htm) document. You can upload this file to Amazon.

Sorry to disagree again, but you don't.

This all doesn't make sense when I go to amazon and try and find where I can upload my book.

    1. I have a word doc, do I save it as .html?
    2. Do I then go to kdp.amazon.com and login and upload easily?
    3. What options do i need to choose?
    4. I see a lot of options for giving away the book for free for a select period of time, should I do this?
    5. Should I enroll on the KDP Select?

    Cheers

No, that won't work. Pdf files have weird formatting in kindle.

Op, just upload your word document to kindle. That'll work fine, as long as your text has normal font and size, and not too many images all over it.

  • Once you have formatted your document, click "Save as" and save as a "Web Page Filtered (html, htm)" document. See picture

You just upload it. You don't need to pay for separate formatting. It's extremely easy.

If you have a Kindle or one of there apps, Amazon lists a couple of their own free books in the Kindle marketplace...

I've only published a few Kindle books, but here's my understanding.

    1) You just upload a regular word file, and you can sample it before you publish.

    2) Don't use excessive enters, but use "page breaks" instead.

That's all I really know about kindle formatting, and I do okay.
