Easy keywords you can dominate!

The thread title is from the subject line of an email I got this morning inviting me to a presentation in which "3 Easy Keywords that You Can Dominate!" will be revealed.

Excuse me keyword salesman, but isn't it a fact that only one person can really "dominate"? Even if you stretch the definition of "dominate" to mean simply get to page 1, then it is still only possible for, at most 30 people to do so. Doesn't that make the subject line a false claim for your entire rest of your list besides the 30 with the best SEO skills, that manage to grab a spot? Or if dominate really means anything, it's false for all but the 1-3 who manage to do so.

What is the point of buying keyword lists from people selling the same lists to thousands of others? Any theories? The only one I can come up with is that people are simply scared they don't have enough expertise to do it themselves. What a shame if I'm right.

Truth is Greg the reason the potential is there for you to dominate it is because most people will not take action with it once they buy it. Some will, but a majority of people that buy a product do not take action with it sadly, so really, if you did take action then you could be the one to reap the benefits of being the top guy on a google search for that keyword.

This is one of my pet peeves - marketers claiming their product will enable you to dominate a niche!

Once in a great while, in a very small and specialized niche, that claim might be true.

When marketers claim you can dominate the health niche, or the dating niche, or the weight loss niche, they are simply lying and trying to sell you a pile of BS!

The large popular niches are rarely dominated by anyone. If there is an 800 lb. gorilla, it will be a site like Amazon, YouTube, or FaceBook.

Marketers who make such claims are relying on the difference between 'can dominate' and 'will dominate', to avoid false advertising charges.

Still doesn't fool me, but they think/hope it might.

I agree overall Alex, but still logic dictates that if you want to ski in virgin snow, you don't follow a map given to every skier around, even if you know most of them won't make out the front door of the lodge. I guess most people just don't believe they can find the good areas on their own.

I used to have a membership to another IM marketing website. I read some information there that was teaching how to find prospects and get them to purchase a membership to the site itself.

The technique they were teaching was to look for individuals that were searching for a particular job. Then write copy that in essence says, "Hey, I know you are looking for a blah blah blah job, but you should consider IM and here is why".

Here is the part that ties into what you are saying OP.

The exact example he gave was "taxi cab drivers" and there was a list of keyword that you could use when you wrote your articles along with the traffic stats.

Out of curiousity I googled the keywords with the best traffic and guess what. Noone had followed the advice of the article. There was very little content that was directly tied to the keywords.

It taught me a few lessons but the biggest is don't ever think that others are competing with you when you learn something.

The vast majority of individuals in the webinar will NOT do anything with those keywords.

Yes, dad (hope it's okay to call you by your "first name"), the point is well taken, and generally agreed, but I still prefer bringing a stepladder to an apple orchard, than to go for the lowest hanging apples that someone is telling their whole list to grab, even though the vast majority will forget all about the orchard 30 minutes after hearing about it.

You have proved your point here, Greg.

The point you've proved, of course, is that you're actually going to think about the sales representations made to you in marketing emails. And that puts you outside that particular marketer's "desired demographic"! :p

Yes I suppose you're right; people just don't think things through. I don't always do so either, and have the dumb mistakes to prove it, but it's hard to imagine not noticing the problem with telling a big group of people they can all "dominate" 3 keywords.

Popular markets can be dominated by many individuals, as the domination lasts only a short while for each.
