Never pay $12 for a domain again! Here's a little trick.

I found this trick last week on a SEO forum. There's a browser extension called "Honey" that can get you a domain name on Godaddy for $1.17. See it for yourself: http://i.imgur.com/JjKtGAs.png.

Here's a little step-by-step how to:

1.- Go to Honey to download and install the extension.
2.- Go to godaddy and pick your domain/domains and go to the checkout page like you normally would
http://i.imgur.com/qdCdEfX.png
3.- If you installed the extension correctly, you should see that orange button at the buttom that says "find savings", click it and the magic will be done.
http://i.imgur.com/hHh4QLO.png
4.- Wait until it test all the coupon codes and gives you the best one
http://i.imgur.com/gybSYT1.png
5.- Buy it

I'm not affiliated with the extension developers and I copied most of the instructions over from the SEO forum. Just want to make my first post here a helpful one.

    • It's supposed to work on hundreds of sites but the only other site I've tried it on is Home Depot and it saved me $10.
    • Agreed, namecheap gives free whois protection something that GoDaddy charges an insane amount of money for. It's been a long time since I even looked at buying a domain through GoDaddy but I believe they charge more for this than the domain itself.
    • Yes, it covers over 100 stores online including Amazon, Best Buy, Target etc. Why are you so down on GoDaddy? I have used them for 3 years and never had a problem. Just curious.
I did a blog post and a video on Honey. The video is on YouTube under Want a Cheap Domain Name? Go check it out. It's really cool.
      Geri Richmond
    • This sounds like a great idea to save $10 on every domain name you purchase. It adds up.
  • The only downside is you need to use GoDaddy

    No thanks. They are horrible.

    • But there is victoriassecret.com and lego.com Everything a grown man needs for a rainy day.
      • [ 10 ] Thanks
      • [3] replies
    • Well you could register with them, wait a few months and then transfer to NameCheap. When you transfer they will add an additional year to the registration so it's like you got one year for a dollar from GoDaddy and the other year for the full price from NameCheap
      • [ 4 ] Thanks
    • If you're using godaddy for domain name registrations then this is a great money saving solution. You can always transfer the details over to another host i.e not godaddy.

    • I agree with you, but...
You can register with them and transfer later on
to your favorite registrar and save $$$.

      Meharis
  • I tested it out on Godaddy, and it did find a 99 cent coupon code, I wont be using it for Godaddy, but it will be useful on other sites I buy from, cool lil tool
  • Just downloaded and tried it on Macys.com for a random polo shirt on sale for 19.99 - Honey plugin found a coupon for and additional $3 off the already discounted sales price bringing it to $16.99. This plugin is great! Thanks again for share!
  • if you want a really really cheap new domain, use a subdomain for a domain you already own, as google treats them as separate domains
    • [ 3 ] Thanks
  • Wow pretty cool man, thanks a lot!

That's a pretty sweet trick man. Now if Godaddy would only quit pounding me with upsells and downsells.

I guess that's why they make so much money though.

I've also used Namesilo and they only charge $8.99 for .coms and no more. They have free privacy too.

I'm not affiliated with Namesilo but I love them
  • You can also check out eBates. Same type of thing, only they give you coupons to use discounts on all sorts of websites, including GoDaddy, and they also give you cash back on your purchases. I use coupons to get domains for $4 on GoDaddy and get 7% cash back on my purchases. If you buy a lot of domains like I do, the savings start to add up

Ehhhh why not ditch Godaddy and get your domains from 1&1? .99 cents (15/yr) includes icann fees and private registration. Can't beat it.
  • That's gangsta dude.

    One love to Tony
  • $1.17 for a domain name is great, but using GoDaddy for anything is a travesty.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Why?

What is going to happen if someone registers a domain there?

Please be specific, because at my peak I had 600+ domains there and not a single complaint from me. They have gotten five figures from me over the years.
  • The thing to be careful of with this is geographical based codes. I used a Pizza Hut coupon code to order a delivery on-line. The problem was the code was for a city about 300 miles away. I got a call from the store manager asking me to explain where I got it from...

...ummm. I was there on business?

  • New domains at 1&1.com are $0.99 or £0.99 from 1&1.co.uk for first year (bargain) then from $9.99 thereafter, only £2.99 in the UK. All good value.
    • [1] reply
    • After my experience with 1&1, I avoid them at all costs. I wouldn't even touch them with your barge pole.

  • This is some good information. But when you copy posts from other forums, you should at least give them credit
  • Human nature. I just love it!

A tool is shared that can be used to buy at hundreds of
vendors with GoDaddy given as ONE example and the
thread turns into a GoDaddy bashing thread. Why not
enjoy the rose rather than see the thorns?

Thank you for the cool tool. I'll be using this one for sure. Never thought about the domain transfer to namecheap though. I'll be doing that from now on. Thank you very much.
    • This is indeed a gem and I hope guys see the other side as well...lets talk about Honey!!!! No need to keep bashing on something...if you need to - start a new topic on it to weigh the pros and cons...I use Godaddy and thats about it... I have not gone into the deep depths of Godaddy so i will not comment.
  • Has anyone confirmed that there is no risk using it? You are entering confidentiai information when you check out
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I wont use it with godaddy, but it looks like a pretty cool tool.
  • Sweet, will try this out thanks.
  • Didn't find a discount for Godaddy for me, but overall it is pretty impressive.Pictures on my blog.
  • Does this plugin work for GoDaddy domain renewels or only newly registered domains?
    • [1] reply
    • It cycles through the all the codes they have in Honey database and check the price.
      Automation at its best.
  • I don't have any problem with GoDaddy, I use them for some of my domain registrations and nothing else. Just point them at my own hosting and that's the end of my involvement with them.

    Am I missing something?
    • [2] replies
    • I was going to ask this as well, I've found some great coupons with them, i've never had a single issue that I can think of... their domain management is easy and intuitive.

I've only ever received one phone call, and that actually saved me a bit of cash on a purchase I was going to be making.

I guess maybe the renewals are a bit expensive?
      • [1] reply
    • that's my thoughts too
  • Looks like a good deal!! I also heard of an offer from networkSolutions where they were giving away .com domains only for .75 cents (first year). Not sure if it still works.

  • grassegg,

    I have a better deal...
Purchase your domain from 1&1 for $.99
Transfer the domain to Name Cheap for $4.95 (Includes 1 extra year)
Total Cost: $2.97 and your domain is valid for 2 years.

    Meharis
    • [ 3 ] Thanks
    • [2] replies
    • Um, $1.17 + 1.17 = $2.34 and that would be for 2 years. You can, also buy a domain name for up to 5 years and Honey will give you the cheapest price.
      Geri Richmond
    • Cool, now all we need is to automate it!
  • Very interesting. Shall be keeping this if it comes across handy one day.

    Appreciate it.

    • Hey i use namecheap too!
    • nice share, its work

    • Really great info, thank you for sharing!
  • Cool, it worked. Thanks, saves me time from having to dig around and find a Godaddy coupon code. Got a new .com for $0.99
  • Wow... Super.. Really a very good share.. thanks
  • WOW!! This is a great first post. Thank you for all the info. This will be helpful to many people. I'm copying this to notepad and will try it out soon. Wonder if this will continue. As the word spreads, GoDaddy may just shut this down. Hope they don't.
    Thanks again,

  • I wonder if this works for Godaddy Auction purchases? Many coupon codes don't.
  • I will be damned why people are slamming Godaddy, I have had nothing but good service from them. They always take care of any issues that may crop up. Like canceling my purchase if I screw up and buy the wrong thing.

The only bitch is I bid on an auction and no one else bid on it, I had screwed up and bid on a .us domain and did n't really want it. Nothing i could do about it and I had to pay. Buit that was my fault.

So, here is a vote for Godaddy. Name cheap was nothing but a pain in the ass for me. I let them expire and never bought anything from them again.

  • I love the idea of Honey. I've had it installed on my browser for 2 years. Unfortunately I have yet for it to find a SINGLE deal. Maybe I'm just unlucky.
  • That a handy tool to get cheap discounts and cool coupons
  • Thanks grassegg for sharing the info. Just saved $25 on lawn mower from Lowes.com today.
No more hunting and searching for coupon codes manually anymore.
  • Small problem, while going through the codes, it found one for $0.99. when it ends up I have one for $2.99, so what happened to the $0.99 one?

So I went and deleted the domain and started again. I got to the $0.99 code and quickly clicked to pay, but when it got to the next page my cost was $11.99, not $0.99. So I give up. Doesn't look like it works as well as it sounded.

  • Thats a great idea for an extension! I wonder if it will save you money on expired domains that you buy at auction or any other domains you buy at auction. Thanks for sharing!
  • I tried all that and it usually doesn't work for me. Regardless, I usually don't pay more than .99 for a domain. If you search hard enough, there is always a way to get it.
  • Thank you for Sharing, just purchased my first domain
  • This is really useful! Thanks for the post
  • Thanks for the great post it's always great to save money
  • This is awesome. No more manually searching for coupons :p I'll never use godaddy, but I'm sure there are tons of sites I will use it on.

Edit: To add to this post. Saved $6 extra at bodybuilding just now It finds all the promo codes and then tests them to find the lowest price. I figured it would just list them for you to try.
  • huh, will let me give you even a better trick

The extension will apply for you a discount on bunch of sites (using coupons only) which has its limitation. It would never be applicable on the major online retailers ( or even domain name registrars and hosting companies )

I own a cash back website where we offer live coupons and cash back in over 2500 store (including godaddy, hostgator, namecheap, and hundred of other website services), I don't see how this extension can offer a better value to customer.

I personally considered a similar extension to our website over a year ago but I back out because the extension would be rejected for most of online stores ( due to the fact that a user must download the extension ) and this is why bigger cash back sites are who own similar extensions can't offer rebate or even coupons for big brand names.

The extension might be popular but with online shoppers getting to know more and more about how to save money when you shop online, they would think twice before installing similar extension (the extension will prevent the user from earning any cash back since they the extension owner is not sharing the commission back with the use )

    • I tried this extension with my Ebates account and it looks like it does not interfere with cashback. The extension doesn't appear to drop any affiliate cookies at all.

  • Yeah Gd and Namecheap have gotten expensive in the last year. One option I've been using lately is TheCheapster.com. .COM's are only $8.99 all the time.
  • thank you, great share

  • Man I tried it, best thing since slice bread, now I don't have to google for coupon codes all the time. Great job and the thank you's in your thread aren't enough. Thank this guy.
  • That looks like a really great plug in, thanks for the share! It's hard to believe that Godaddy can make a profit selling domains for under 2 dollars.

Not only Godaddy this would be good for, as I'm always searching the net for coupon codes for my Domino's pizzas!
  • if you are talking of new Godaddy domains, buying them at that rate is really quite preposterous. there are loads of $1 code for new domains out there in the world wide web which you can use to get a new domain at a steal.
  • This is AWESOME! Thanks!

Oh BTW. I notices how the "test it out" button was an affiliate link to Amazon. Lol. But I am 100% happy to do that in return for the money I should save.
  • Wow that's really cool. I do this manually all the time, thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks a lot buddy for sharing! Keep sharing such type of tools
  • This is actually a cool addon. I'm sure though the best deal you get is a 30% off the domain name order. Makes it worth it when ordering several domains in one shot.
I used to use proxies in order to find the best Godaddy Adwords offer around the globe. Right now they have a $0.99 sale in Europe around Germany/France. While it's $2.95 for the US. Just type Godaddy in Google and see the offer on top in the paid area.
  • That is a boss plug-in! Thank you for the share... whoever made this deserves a medal.
  • UPDATE: I posted earlier and downloaded Honey. I've only used it so far at GoDaddy because I haven't found any deals at Amazon or anywhere else I shop online, but at GoDaddy I'm consistently getting domains for under $4 and even as low as $1.50

    Thanks!

  • to get GoDaddy domain at low price you can simply enter into Google Search words like: 'GoDaddy coupon' or 'GoDaddy coupon codes'...

this way I found one coupon code for GoDaddy .COM Domain for only $1.99...
  • Thanks for sharing this, it might be helpful one day
  • its vary useful information thanks.
  • Grassegg,
I just paid $1.17 for my last domain as well, but it was offered by GoDaddy at the top of the page as I was searching for a new domain name. After I first bought a domain from them they often offer discounts to me by email. If someone is searching for a domain at GoDaddy and they aren't offering an obvious discount, then you can just Google "GoDaddy discounts" and find some codes that will allow you to buy cheaper. Never pay retail!
  • Great.

Just thinking about buying another domain and am gonna use this trick.
  • Thanks! Will take a look today.
  • My pc says it's installed but no orange button appearing after clicking checkout button on Godaddy. Anyone have the same problem ? and if so how did you fix it? Any ideas appreciated.
Also will this still work even if you are trying to register multiple domains one after another?
    Thanks

  • ok i got it to work on chrome but can't get any org's for under $12.50 even with honey
  • nice to know. unfortunately it's with GoDaddy. Which means I would have to transfer the domain as soon as I get it to a different host. Which will cost me more than if I bought it from that host to begin with.

    Nope.

    • You might be missing the point here.
      1. Because you register a domain name at GoDaddy, there is no requirement to host it there.
      2. After 60 days, you may transfer domain name registration to any registrar of your choice, and some registrars give you a free one-year extension of your domain name when you transfer to them.

  • Thanks for sharing this!

I see this works with a lot of sites, not just domain registrars. There's a lot of really good value deals for new customers to web hosts floating about right now. Really tempting!
  • It would have been really great if we can use this for Namecheap! But this is one cool tool and I love it, loads of savings on different stuff!
  • Did this worked for ebay for anyone?

Didn't worked for me. But it works in godaddy.

    Thanks for sharing.
  • nice! Thanks
  • nice trick, thanks
  • Pretty neat trick that you managed to share but the fact of the matter is, if a person is NOT willing to invest a measly $12 to purchase a domain name, they are not cut out to be an entrepreneur and Internet Marketer.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • $12 for ONE domain isn't the issue. It saves a bunch when you buy hundreds of domains names.
  • Pretty cool extension, I will surely check it out shortly.
  • Honey is really cool! I buy a lot of domains, and it's saved me hundreds of dollars. Another idea is to just Google godaddy coupon code, or something like that. Not sure about here, but some other forums even have threads where people post codes. When Honey didn't work, I used that and I was still able to gt domains for two or three dollars.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I had this on my last computer fbut forgot where to get it so have not had it for a while. Thanks for sharing.

  • I got a few renewals coming up to test this out on but from all the reviews I see nothing to lose... Thanx!
    • [1] reply
    • Have YOU or ANYONE tried it in renewals not new regs?
  • Not to be a downer, but I just went to install the Honey plugin.

Their install notice reads (aka: you're agreeing to allow them to)...

"It can Access your data on all websites"
"Access your tabs and browsing activity"

... then you click "Add" to install.

Just thought you should know. Is this app created by the NSA?

    • MonopolyOnline,

I'm wondering how come my Anti-Virus, Malware & Spy detector are not reporting.
I went to the Control Panel remove it but, I can't find it as a program.
      Suggestions?

  • This is quite a useful tool, who doesn't want to save a few bucks?
  • What's the best price people have been able to get .com renewels using this?
  • I never pay more than $1 for a new domain unless it is something I can't do without. Just Google "Godaddy Coupons."
  • Seems namecheap is not included...
  • if we use honey extension we will not be able to pay with paypal.you have to usw credit card
  • For Godaddy Coupons, always visit the past page in this thread:

    https://www.namepros.com/577802-goda...codes-686.html

Been using that now since, wow, the Middle Ages and it keeps working grand.

  • Has anyone got this to work outside USA?
  • Awesome! I'll have to check that out right this moment. Thanks for sharing
  • That's some real cool automation! Thanks for the share.
  • cool tricks!
  • Nice cost saving tips. I just registered a nice .com domain for just $2.17 with Godaddy. It will be a very useful cost saving tool for those who want to save some money domain especially for new domain registration
    Thanks
  • I admit I didn't read this whole thread so this might have been mentioned already, but if you contact your registrar and ask for a "supervisor" to discuss a better offer for volume buys they will work with you on price.

Some have VIP discount packages and codes for their volume users. Ask them if they have VIP discounts. They'd rather keep you as a customer over having you move so they'll have something for you.

    Hosting providers as well.

Obviously not useful for a single domain. I mean really, if you are looking to shave a couple cents off a single domain it's waste of time and partly the reason you are not making money to begin with.

That last part isn't directed at anyone, just sayin'.
  • Thanks for the share, very useful.
  • I read this post awhile back, and it was one of those days when I said, "why not give it a shot."

Worked like a charm. Although it wouldn't let me check out with PayPal directly, I just used my PayPal Debit Card as a MasterCard.

Nothing wrong with saving a few bucks. Thanks for the tip.
  • Nice, thanks, this looks useful. I assume the extension has to read your tab information in order to work - it has to know what you're looking at in order to suggest relevant coupons.

  • Just want to report that Honey kept getting better over the years. They recently added a new cash-back feature called "HoneyGold". I haven't seen it work for domains yet but it would be pretty awesome if it did.
  • Thanks man!
  • Correct.I have used it before.Works pretty well. But there is only credit card payment option for such rate.
  • Hey,

Thanks for such valuable information. Have checked out and it works wonders. Will share it with my friends as well.

    Thanks,
    Chintan
  • Great tips, thank you.
  • Very cool "trick"

But you necessarely need a Credit Card.

And you can't use one coupon more than once.

But it solves a lot of problems

For buying domains as low as it gets I heard that "Sedo" sell them for $9 with WHOIS Guard lifetime included free.
  • thanks to you that I get some cost savings when buying domain names
    thank you very much (^-^)
