Best External Hard Drive

hi, i'm a bit confused on choosing the right external hard disk right now. I have two options of Western Digital (WD) My Passport Essential 500GB external hard drive VS Seagate Expansion 1TB external hard drive. Please share your experiences and thoughts.

None, i'm sure it's not wrong to ask some questions here since i've saw a lot of people posted some unrelated questions too. I'm confused and i need some opinions here.

I had a Western Digital (WD) 500GB for 3 years it was great. They have larger sized 1tb ones now. Probably would not get something as small as 500gb.

You manage to use it for 3 years? That's a great news. I saw few people said that theirs only work for a couple of month (that really scares me). Thank you for your personal reviews. That really helps.

I have and use a Western Digital 500GB and it works fine for me. I've had it for about 3 years now, I don't use it everyday though, maybe once a month at the most to backup my important files, but it hasn't crashed on me or anything. It comes with pre-installed backup software but I never use it, I just copy and paste files myself.

If the 1TB Seagate is the same price or not much more I would probably go with that simply because it has twice the space. But it really depends on what you are going to use it for, if you really need 1TB or only 500GB.

Have you looked at the amazon reviews? Those might be helpful.

Hi, yes. I did do a bit of research on Amazon and i somehow found SeaGate have lots of negative reviews compared to WD. Emm..My "C" drive alone is 150GB, "E" drive is 35GB and my download folder is 58GB. Uh! I guess 500Gb is enough for me.

I do care about the size of the hard drive but i don't want to find out out the next thing in the morning that the hard drive is not working anymore. LOL. WD seems reliable. Thank you for your opinions and ideas.

I have a heard a lot of stories that completely rip on the companies that sell external hard drives. Most of them because the hard drive just stopped working or something like that. Both of the hard drives that you mentioned are fine. But I suggest skipping those hard drives and use a cloud service like Dropbox.

I use dropbox and I have 8GB of free space. If you are looking for more than 8GB, you can pay for more.

If you are just looking for a backup for your computer, there are other solutions that automatically backup certain folders on your computer. My mother used to use hard drives and now uses something like that where it backs up your computer automatically and into a cloud service. Apparently it works spectacularly.
