Funny things guru's do...

I noticed something funny. It's a trend that some of the guru's are taking. I can think of at least three of them in particular, but here's how it goes:

First, they get into this business selling low-priced products. Then they build a product line. High priced packaged. Courses. Etc. And get a bunch of affiliates. And build a huge list. And sell a ton of stuff.

Launches, etc.

Then after a couple of years...

They charge higher prices for consulting. Fine. But they also say... it's NOT about doing product launches, it's not about "selling", and it's not about getting a bunch of affiliates...

... "anymore".

Of course, all the while, they're still doing product launches, they're still selling, even while they say they're not selling, and they still have a ton of affiliates.

Anyone else think this is funny?

    They don't say that they use an old method because this is not interesting and it doesn’t attract new prospects.

    Their marketing techniques are responsible for what they say. Words are only words, but some people believe in sweet words.

    Part of what you describe is a natural progression, but older methods
    also no longer work, so over time, many "gurus" do change models.

    Also, after you hit a certain point, it really isn't about the money. It's
    about freedom of choice, life-style, family, etc. The money facilitates
    many of those things, but is not an end in itself.

    Wow. You have really been paying attention and broke that thing down.

    Usually when I'm studying someone in biz who has been mega successful...

    I usually don't want to know what they are doing NOW that they are very successful, but I want to study what did they do to get to that point.

    But online though, things move so fast...

    But still certain things still remain the same and have stay valuable and 2 of those things are:

    1) Evergreen product creation

    2) Having your own list (although this one may be a little less effective than it once was since people in general are getting more desensitized to email and moving more towards mobile as the future...but a list is a list. Doesn't matter if you send through text messages, push notifications, or email, or even direct mail. Having a list always holds weight.)

    Yeah number two is definitely right, email clicks are really competitive nowadays. I mean, hell. I don't open a lot of my email, even the stuff I want to.

    There's just not enough time.

    Which is interesting, because one of the "guru's" who isn't doing what I said in this thread is Jason, and he's contacting people on Skype as a form of a list.

    And Google+ groups.

    I can see how that would work as a list. It might be something to explore.

    And Russell, I see what you mean. There is a ton more places to run ads now that everyone has a list. Probably easier to pay the toll than convince them to promote.
