Google's "Smartphone Slap" is Coming! Are You Ready?

I'll keep it short and sweet.

Google has another slap coming.
And it can kill a lot of your traffic depending on your niche.

From Google, SERoundTable and MobileMarketer:

Mobile represents about 25% of my traffic.
And most people these days read your emails on their smartphones. So you should be optimizing for a good mobile experience anyways.

Whenever you add a new WordPress theme, it should always be mobile responsive.

Update! You can check your mobile website's "readiness" using these tools.

I see some good WSO's in them thar hills.

  • Thanks for the heads up.

I always ensure my sites are mobile compatible now. I was not aware of the slap coming just wanted the extra eyeballs on my sites.

    Thank you, Patrick
  • I read this earlier. I thought it was already done in last update.

Also, loading speed of websites is more of a determining factor for ranking as well.

    • Make sure you read the specifications on Google they talk about header annotation and crawling CSS.

Could be a major landscape shift.

With the changes in the way people are using the internet this was bound to happen.
  • Yeah - this has been coming for quite some time.

In addition to ensuring you have a fully-functional responsive design, it would be wise to run your site through PageSpeed Insights, selecting their "mobile report" and seeing what Google would like you to clean up to be "mobile friendly" in their eyes.
