How Much Does Your Education Cost?

I was listening to a MP3 today, and the person said that it took them quite some time before they bought anything about having a business online.

I know you can get free on every subject possible.

But, how much do you spend each week on your education?

It seems that a lot of people will buy every new thing around, but they are not really spending it on an education. They are buying hoping to find that golden bullet that will give them instant riches while they do nothing.

However, there are times when spending money on your education is important.

If you've never spent a dime on your education, you should look at why this is, when you spend thousands on buying products that often are never downloaded or read.

Bev, I come from a very poor family and thus had to spend our money
    very wisely.

I bought a $19.95 book when I first started. It gave me some basics and took
me to about $1,500 a month income. I realized that I needed to learn more if
I was going to get further along so I then bought a more comprehensive
book that cost me $97. That book took me to about $4,000 a month.

After that, I spent some money on coaching that took me to 6 figures. That was about $2,500

In the 6.5 years I've been at this, I have maybe spent all of $3,500 on
educational materials. Most of the money I actually spend on IM now is on
utilities, as I like to call them...web hosting, domains, autoresponders, etc.
Things that actually add to the productivity of my business.

I rarely buy any educational materials anymore. I'm not saying that I have
nothing left to learn. I'm sure I do, if I want to yet get to the next level.

And that's the point. I'm happy with where I am, have no desire to start
bringing in 7 figures a year. I used to think I needed lots of money. I have
come to realize that money is secondary to your health.

This year so far, I have spent exactly $47 on educational materials. That
will probably be my only purchase of the year and it was only done on a
whim because it was a subject that I wanted to see if what I thought was
right, actually was. The authority on the book is widely known and
respected and thus it was a safe purchase as far as credibility.

That's the problem with so much of the educational material that you
can buy. Unless you've been around for a while and know the names, it's
hard to know who you can trust and who is just selling you snake oil. This
is one of the reasons I bought so little when I first started. I didn't know
any names and therefore didn't know who to trust. I wasn't going to
throw my money away on guesswork. So I did research. I asked people.
I then looked up the names of the people I was asking to see if others
had good things to say about them. Yes, I was a total fanatic and nut
case when it came to buying anything. It took me longer to get to where
I wanted to be, but in the long run, I think it was the right way to go for
me. Everybody of course is different and thus they have to do what's best
    for them.

Anyway, I've rambled on long enough for a Sunday.

    What was the question again???

Education and costs do not have to be in the same sentence.

This forum is a great way to get educated for free. Any question you ask will be answered based on the experience of some great people.

I found a GREAT resource for ivy league educational content that is 100% free. It's called itunesU. Just download itunes and you can download all the university lectures on any topic you can imagine for free.

I have loaded my ipod with business, psychology and marketing lectures from the best universities in the world. When I am driving to the office I listen to a lecture.

    Highly recommended.

It's not what you pay, it's what you gain.

In the last eight months I've spent X, but I've
invested in myself and it's that investment that's
the really valuable thing, at least for me.
