Converter Software for Amazon Kindle

I have a quick question about the converter software for books that are prepared for upload to Amazon Kindle. There are a lot of people offering payware conversion software, and a lot of them create formatting flaws that show up in the converted file. I am trying to find reliable freeware converter software for word files prepared in .docx. I was told MOBI was the best converter software for docx files. I would consider other converter software as well. Can any knowledgeable person on this forum give me any helpful suggestions in regard to suggested freeware. Thank you!
P.S. Personal experience with the suggested software is always a plus... though not a necessity !!

I don't know if you've tried it before - but Amazon will convert the .docx files into Kindle files for you.

However, I can't recall being able to format from their service. But, you can take a look at what it looks like. If it needs changes, change the .docx and re-upload.

That may be monotonous - the books I've uploaded have been straight text and I didn't have to do much editing to make them look good. But, if you have a bunch of pictures or anything - you may need something more advanced.

Automated software will probably not convert your doc properly. In most cases you need to edit your converted epub "manually" to fix the formatting issues that will appear.

    Highly recommended tool from Amazon:
    Kindle Previewer

If you have a Kindle device (which you should), you can upload your document and Amazon will automatically convert it for you.

But like I said earlier, unless you know what you're doing... the formatting will be quite different. Header and footer will be removed, table of contents will stop working unless you have set'em up properly, pictures will look different that what you would've expect (you need to choose pictures that will look good in black & white because many people may have e-ink devices), if you resized the pictures in word... then you have to do a lot of editing (the best option is to have the pictures in the exact dimension you want them to appear).. and that's just a few tips...

It's not hard .. but it's laborious and it would've been better if you wrote the ebook knowing what it would look like on Kindle.

I would try some of the services on Fiverr, if you don't want to format it yourself.

Since you are a War Room member, look for information about Kindle ebooks a few months ago. I had found many interesting ebooks there with detailed information, but I didn't have time to use this knowledge.

Why don't you use Microsoft Word and follow the excellent instructions provided by the nice people at KDP. It only takes a short while.

Automated software is actually one of the worst ways to format your book. You can get absolutely flawless perfect formatting with Microsoft Word if you know a little bit of coding.

Calibre is free. It is what I use.

It will convert your ODT file to MOBI for upload to Kindle.

MOBI is one of the file formats in which Kindle wants to convert Kindle books...

While their built-in software is said to convert many formats into the proper format, there are few formats that convert well, except for MOBI.
