Is my time worth anything?

Hi all,
I'm a total newbie who has wandered here while trying to find a way to be my own boss. I spend 55+ hours a week at a low-paid job I hate and though I know there's no "get rich quick" here, I have a hunch that my time could be better spent.
So, my question - though I have no special IT skills, could my time and commitment be of use to someone in this field rather than plugging away at a job that's going to make me ill?
Apologies if you get this stuff all the time...

All the best,
Dogsled7

IMO, your time is worth something assuming you can offer somebody a set of skills that are worth paying for. What can you do for someone, that they'd be willing to pay for? Write? Research? Etc.

I am new to this community but I am not new to Marketing, learning how to sell something or how to make money in other ways, is certainly something that you can and should attempt to do, but keep it in perspective. I know I have some friends that spend hours and hours trying to learn all there is to learn and they get burned out.

If what you mean is can you learn from someone while also getting paid a few bucks to be like an intern, that most of the time is called coaching here, but yes in the brick and mortar world its sort of like being an intern.

I think that learning this business is a lot like learning how to do any job, it takes time to get the hang of how to manage the different technologies.

When you have at least some business experience it helps, but you can do anything you really want to do.

    Hi Dogsled,

My personal recommendation to any newcomer who is
totally fed up with their current situation is to learn as
much as possible about how to:

BUILD A LIST OF HUNGRY SUBSCRIBERS!

Now you may not know anything about email marketing
and you may be a bit scared of the thought.

    But believe me it works!

    You need to focus on helping as many others get what they want;
then you need to apply this everyday to your email marketing
    strategy.

Of course you need to learn a few basic skills on how to build
a list first, set up messages, how to communicate with your list
    etc...

...But I am guessing you are at a stage of your life where you are
willing to do what ever it takes!

So this is my suggestion to you.

Learn as much as you can and you are at the right place here at W.F.
    to make it happen.

There are some wonderful & creative members here it is a fantastic
place to hang out & learn once you get to know it well.

All the best and keep me updated with your progress.

Have a great day my friend!
    Gavin

Ultimately, I think one gets to decide this for oneself. Albeit with variable degrees of ease/difficulty, depending on one's starting position.

I must say that I'm far from sure I'd ever have managed to get started at all, if I'd had a 55-hour-per-week job at the time. On the other hand, there are also probably some people who have done, and have become successful.

What do you mean by "someone"? Yourself, possibly ... if you're thinking of employment prospects, I suspect that may not be easy, without an appropriate skill-set?

I'll be a little more direct than most people and I hope you dont take offense....ive been where you are.

No... if we're strictly talking about $$ here, then no...your time isnt worth more that what you're getting paid now unless you have a skill that could command more money than you're making.

Id be less focused on how bad the job is and start getting focused on what you're going to do to increase your skillset so that eventually you can move on to something more lucrative.

Time on its own is worth very little. I always hated the "Time is money" phrase, as it isn't exactly true.

Now time AND skills? Then your time is worth something. People will pay very little for someone with no skills, and most won't pay anything at all. But if you learn how do to something that others struggle with, or would rather pay someone else to do, then suddenly your time starts to become worth something.

Well you have made the first step to change your life by joining the Warrior Forum. The second step is the War Room. Keep read and learning.

You can become book learning smart but you need to see one of experience marketers set-up his or her Sales Funnel and optimized it with a back-end offer.

I hope that helps you a little. I wouldn't worry too much about what your time is worth right now. But you will have to keep your job for now and give-up TV. (LOL)

Thanks for all of your replies, this is indeed an inspiring place. Today I divided my take home wage (after tax) by 365, deducted travel expenses and came out with £30 a day. That's £30 a day for a demanding and demeaning retail management job which takes up over 55 hours of my week and is making me ill. There's got to be a better way than this! I can sell and am extremely disciplined. Surely I can replace this income online. Is there anything to this odesk thing?
Getting desperate, I really appreciate your input.

There's a difference between being "someone who hates their job" and a "business owner." There are millions and millions of people who hate their job, but only a small percentage of them are cut out to be self-employed.

As for your question, without acquiring some type of special skill (writing, graphic designing, coding, etc), you're going to be hard pressed to match your $30/day on a freelance site.

While, yes, there are plenty of ways to make money online, none of them are going to be immediate (which seems like what you are looking for), without any prior experience.

If you're extremely desperate to leave your job, your best bet is going to be to find another job. Obviously, that's not what you want to hear, but it's the truth.

If you can wait a while, do research and start learning how all this online stuff works. Then, invest in yourself and find a way to be your own boss and not someone's online employee.

Also, if you start doing research on all this, avoid buying anything related to online business for the first month or two - including WSOs. Not only because you'll end up buying a bunch of crap products that don't work, but because 99% of the information you need at this stage can be acquired for free, with a minimal amount of research.

      Good luck.

That's a pretty painful question to ask, if your time is worth anything. Obviously you're a living breathing human being so your time is invaluable.

You might need a shift in your perspective, but clearly your time is valuable. Now what you choose to do with your time is obviously up to you.

It's good that you anticipated you'll have to put the work in to make it work. But it's really worth it to get out of a job you hate.

By the way, I'll be the first to tell you, that you can easily replace that 30 pounds a day by getting a product together that will help people and getting in front of them.

Just you will have to put time in every day to get people to your offer. But it will be a lot less time than you spend at your job.

    The only problem is...

Getting complacent. So just know ahead of time, you stop working, it stops coming. But building a customer list is a great asset.

Imagine if you were the owner of that retail store you hate. They're probably collecting emails in one way shape or form?

That's what you have to do, while selling.

I am in the same boat as the topic creator. There are so many ways to make money online that I do not know what method to chose from. From a lot of WSO's that I have bought, I think list building is the best way for a newcomer to make money online. It will take work though and no money making system is push button easy.

One of my question is does one person need a mentor to make money online? I don't have the kind of money right now.

You can always make your time worth something. You have to start from somewhere. Create an ebook and sell it. Become a marketing consultant - check the "offline marketing" section of this forum for outstanding ideas. Or start easy by selling on ebay, half.com, or fiverr. (i didnt mention Amazon for a reason)

You could provide a service that someone needs. Do things on elance or create gigs on fiverr. Or create a blog and sell some clickbank products.

Your time by itself is not valuable. Your skills are valuable. If you have skills that others need, people will pay for your time.

If you don't, that can be changed. Learn to do things. Learn skills that others need to have done. Some will pay you for mundane, boring tasks that a chimp can do if given instructions, but would that really be better than the job you have now?

Time is all you have, if you don't place a value on your time nobody else will.

You set the value on your time nobody else. You have to protect your time and demand that it be respected, and demand that you get what your worth.

Don't let anyone else decide the value of your time.

      Time is not the question.
      Question is about your life.

I always concentrate on "How I am".

If you feel u are well, u need nothing.
If you feel u need to be better then u should work for changing.

U must not run behind $55 per day.

Find some valuable niche and try to develop your business, it will bring more than $100 per day taking 40 or less hours a week.

U r in right way. Just have patience and try hard.
      Ur success in upcoming.

Hey there. I think I know how you feel. I can't guarantee that any effort you put into Internet Marketing will show any results at all. But if you're willing to put in the hard work in the right places you'll do pretty well. What matters is you've got the right resources for that to happen. Just look around the WF for information. Also don't plan to quit your job until you're SURE that IM can replace your pay.

Someone told me when I was a child that TIME IS MONEY. considering this, you're very rich to spend so much of it.

If you ask how to earn it back, You might want to put that precious time in the right place.

    1. Learn
    2. research
    3. put efforts
    4. Get it converted into money.

I would say your time worth $9999999 If you do some hard work. Motivated? now get to work!

    take action!

    Good luck!

As long as you have a skill that someone else cannot do yet need you have a marketable skill now if there are bot enough people wanting that skill there may be a need to find a bigger niche which can be learned in about three weeks? See jason fladlien instant expert IMO.

What do you have in mind? You might not have 'special IT skills' but what other skills do you have? If you do have skills (and I suspect you do), then your time IS worth a lot.

However, the bottom line is that you're the only one who can tell what your time is really worth. If you're not so good at valuing your time now, well...you're not alone. It's a problem most people face.

As you improve your skills (or get new skill sets) and you begin to earn from those skills, you will probably be able to know the REAL value of your time.

Yes, your time is worth something. But, it is up to you to make the decision as to what to do with it. Some people find it a lot easier to train for a better paying job. I helped someone with a college degree find a job and work her way to her dream job. She was working in retail at minimum wage. She went on and is now in a job she likes fairly well and is paid a lot more than she ever got on very good days in retail with the benefit of it being a 9-5 job. Others don't like jobs and want to be their own boss. IM can be good for this, but you really have to pick something and stick with it. You can start with searching for free information in what you want to do. Once you start making money, then continue paid training in it. Keep at it until you can start adding stuff. Don't buy WSOs or products or whatever at random. Make it very business like.
