What is the development cost on software such as Market Samauri and Traffic Travis?

I was just curious what kind of capital a project like this could require.

I would only be having a guess based on small tools I have put together.

I would say probably in the $30,000 - $50,000 range... maybe even more.

But again, just an educated (?) guess.

It also depends if the person creating it can do some of the work themselves, has an inhouse programming team, or is using only third party outsource workers.

I would say WillR is pretty spot on there. Looking at the specs for both products I would say a couple of months for one developer at a realistic rate of $100 per hour. So expect 30 - 40k.

You might find somebody to work for less in exchange for a share in the end product.

I would be careful of the freelancing sites where you will find developers happy to quote you 2k for the whole deal. Then you get what you pay for

I would have to say this would be my preferred route for a software program like that. The reason being that it's an ongoing tool that's going to require some dedication from someone when bugs and updates need to be addressed.

I have learnt from experience that no one has as much dedication to a product as someone who has a financial interest in it. If you are just paying someone by the hour then they have no reason to rush your work and get it done. But if they are a part of the whole project and have a financial share in its success, you'll find they are a lot more dedicated to the whole project which is exactly what you want.
