Can I sell my Kindle book as PDF outside of Amazon?

Hi All,
Do you know if I can sell my Kindle book as PDF as a product outside of Amazon or should it be sold only in Amazon exclusively?

If you are participating in KDP Select, you cannot sell your book anywhere else.

If not participating in KDP Select, you can sell the product anywhere, so long as you match two key points:

    1. You must price your book at an equal or lower price on Amazon than elsewhere.
    2. You must secure your download so that no one can find your book outside of Amazon for free.

Sure you can. First, you have to determine where your ideal audience (readers are).

Is it fiction or nonfiction? For an English speaking audience or non-English?

The benefit of selling it on your own site is:
      a) you can make follow up sales because you build an email list of buyers (doesn't happen via Amazon)
      b) you can charge higher prices

The benefit of selling on Amazon is:
      a) branding
      b) higher conversions
      c) if it's fiction definitely a bigger audience

      Does this make sense?

You can sell your book in Amazon's KDP program and sell elsewhere. However, if you enroll in KDP Select your eBook needs to be exclusive to Amazon. Also keep in mind that even if you are enrolled in KDP Select agreeing to exclusivity with Amazon for a 90 day period, you can still sell physical copies of your book, just not digital ones.

Is KPD Select really worth the trade off?

Depends on the genre and how you intend to leverage your audience. For example, while your book is on KDP Select you have a chance to post it free of charge for a total of 5 days. During this time, your book can get LOTS of eyeballs -- which may help you establish your author name. Units can also be borrowed while enrolled on Select, allowing you to earn a fixed amount that varies slightly each month.

This info is only the basics, though. More details HERE.

It definitely has been for me. One of my books alone was downloaded 22,000 times in 2 days. Yes I gave it away free but it resulted in TONS of book sales, rocketing the book into being a best seller for weeks.and without the Select it likely would have had a tough time getting found.

But KDP Select is not as effective as it was, however, you can still get great results if you do it properly.

My first and only book will be an art instruction book. I would like to offer it as a PDF as well as a Kindle since a good percentage of my audience would probably prefer a PDF they can print out. I am thinking the KDP Select would not benefit me that much. Any thoughts?

    Hi emacie,

I just saw your post. Here is what I would recommend...

Use KDP select to promote your book, as mentioned above. It CAN give you a lot of exposure in a short amount of time, if you pick the correct category and craft a brilliant title and cover.

Secondly, place a link in the back of the book for a FREE download of the pdf/printable version of a tutorial that accompanies the book. Link it to an optin page, so that you can build a list of readers for your other materials. Use the words 'FREE BONUS' in the Amazon title and description to grab readers' attention. Make the printable tutorial a bit different to the kindle book, so that it doesn't violate KDP t&c's.

    Hope that help.....be encouraged!

You can sell it anywhere, but be aware to comply with Amazons T&C's

Amazons price has to be 20% cheaper
You will not be able to enroll in the Kindle Select promo etc

Where on earth did you get this from, Gringo? It's simply not true. Amazon claim that they won't knowingly be undersold, and they reserve the right to price-match (though they don't always actually do it), if/when notified of lower prices elsewhere, but that 20% figure is fictional.
