Coaching-good experience, or bad experience for you?

Hello Warriors:

I seem to be running into the same problem. I purchase a coaching deal from a extremely successful Internet Marketer (you would know their names) and seem to get moving, and then somehow, the same people just drop communication with me. I have spent lots of cash with these people, and they seem to high tail it once they get my money.

Can anyone on here say that they have had a good experience with coaching? Are you making enough from it to quit or supplement your job? Are these people really doing the coaching or out to (i hate to say this term) scam us little guys.

I work a full time 60 hour a week job. I am not looking for a handout, i just want to live a better life.

Tell me/us your experiences...

Tried it once, and the first coaching session ended up with the coach selling me on his idea of a way to go which turned out to be something I was not at all suited for and it ended up a complete waste of time and money.

He was a slick salesman, his coaching was not worth anything to me.

I connected with my first coach in 2002, attended a workshop that
he hosted in 2003, and I benefited greatly from the relationship.
He pushed me through writing my second physical book for example
(my first one was a cookbook, which was pretty easy anyway).

I've had good luck with coaches, but then again I'm very picky, and
actually get to know the coach personally BEFORE I become a
    client.

I never had a coach to teach me but I see many people succeed by mentoring with the right person.

There are two ways, a bad one with scams and a great one with great teachings, you just have to use your commonsense to choose the right one. always research before you Invest and always invest in smaller to conquer the bigger.

I would suggest you to learn by yourself and use the Search button on the forum to get help. War room has some great stuff to help you with your IM success steps and experienced marketers are always here to help you with any queries you have regarding making money. do you still need a coach? I don't think so!

I had a success very first when I started the business... and then nothing. I couldn't duplicate what I had done for two years! Finally I buckled down got a coach and finally i'm duplicating what I once did. For me, getting a coach was the best thing I have done.

      Hope this helps.

I had a 'coach' once for CPA via PPC. He instantly took me from nothing to $6 to $8k a month net my very first month. Then from there another one of his students helped me optimize things. So considering that and the fact that he was 100% free and never tried to sell me anything, I'd say, good experience!

I have always had a great experience with coaching, I haven't hired a coach in a while but it wasn't an on going thing.

I got to ask a few questions get a few answers and that was the extent of the coaching, it was very beneficial to my business.

I would suggest you first sit down and get to know exactly what you want to do in IM. Is it CPA? Product creation? Authority site model? Once you identify this it is then easier to get a mentor. Going for a coaching program and you are not decided yet will not work for you even if you have one of the best coaches. Get your field of interest learn a few basics from the forum and start. Look for a mentor to guide you through the rest.

I've never had a coach, but I have mentored a few people (free since they were my friends) and they got results faster than me.

There are a lot of reliable coaches here on the WF, but a coach is only as good as the student who puts the coaching into action.

Honestly I had a great experience with my Mentors!!! Yes I said Mentors as this industry is always evolving and want to stay on the top of my game...

I went through 3 different coaching programs and got great mentoring through all 3... I think it is definitely worth it if you can find a coach that isnt the typical GURU trying to sell as many units as possible and the support system might as well be non existent...

I would definitely look into finding a Mentor who is going to help you.... Im not saying that they are scamming you as you dont really know if they have other people they are working with...

I will tell you though after being mentored in 3 different Coaching Programs the most important thing I learned is to build your list and From me building my list and having a Nice Strong Follow up that gives great value I have been a full time Internet Marketer for a little less than a year and a half...

I hope you get this sorted out!!!

Yes - I have had paid coaches on 3 occasions, the difference is I knew exactly what I was looking for (although they opened my eyes to a few things I didn't realize I was looking for as coaching went on...) and had done my homework on them including having at least 1 consultation BEFORE paying to get a sense for what they had to offer and whether their teaching technique jived with my learning expectations. From there, we had good agreement on the schedule which helps set expectations. I made far more than I paid (and I had paid more than $10K in coaching fees) so it was a good experience.

I have had coaches in the past who say they are going to coach you so you hand over a wad of cash and they get you to watch videos and that's it without any personal input from them even though they told you that would be the case.

I have been lucky enough to join a group who are trying out a programme for Ali Chowdhry and his course is called Frontline Marketing Academy. This guy is the real deal he rings me and talks to me and listens to me and then sends me on the right path.

My major problem is that when I talk to him I get all excitied and start talking over him which I need to learn not to do as I am missing out on valuable information he is trying to tell me. Worth checking out.

I paid high five figures for a high profile coach about 12+ years ago or so and it made a tremendous life changing difference.

No coach should drop you once they have your money, or ever. If they do that, they aren't a good coach, that's for sure.

I've been on both sides of the coin also because I now coach a few clients and I actually probably over coach them because I give a crap and want them to succeed, sometimes even more than they want it for themselves.

If you do find a good coach, make sure and do the work and follow through because many people don't, surprisingly, even when they are paying lots of money for the advice.

Guess you just need to choose your people well.

Btw, if they stopped communicating with you, wouldn't that mean they scammed you? Didn't you take any action against that? I mean, contact them, expose them, or something?

Coaching-good experience, or bad experience for you?

    Yes.

With that totally accurate, but also totally useless, answer on record, let me elaborate.

It's been a few years, but I've had some really excellent coaching where the coach split his time between group work and personal work. That program retailed for $1800.

I've also been in "coaching programs" whose only real objective was to move you deeper in the funnel. These "coaches" used tactics that would make a timeshare promoter blush. I later learned that the "coach" set the price for his next level individually for each registrant by running a credit report on them.

Bottom line, you can't say "coaching is good" or "coaching is bad", only that some programs are worthwhile and some are a total waste or worse.

I had nightmares about my first coach...

Geri, you are so sweet to post about me - I enjoy working with you and count it a real privilege to call you my friend.

All: My general coaching is by application only at this time.

My first coach knew his stuff, but was a liar and a cheat. He scammed me out of $3,400 affiliate commissions... What a horrible experience! lol

    Almost quit over it...

However, I chose to use that energy to be REALLY inspired to help others with getting started online, the honest way . . . and to do the best I could to treat others the way I want to be treated.

not a very good experience so far, im pretty new to the forums and internet marketing, and some people who claim to say they can teach you how to make money with a proven "cookie-cutter" system always do the same thing. They gain your trust, get you to buy, start off strong with the coaching, and then slowly phase out. I was told that the only way to learn was to search and read the WF forums, but in order to make money, i should have to shell out money. But as i've learned, there are sly people out there, looking for newbies like myself to make a quick buck.

    still going strong though.

I think the coaching depends on the coach and how dedicated the coach will be to his students. unfortunately coaching is the new "fad" and people are popping out coaching programs left and right. That does not mean they are popping out good coaches for sure. It's best to get recommendations and ask tons of questions before you hit that buy button.

The problem with coaching is that what your coach is doing to be successful might not be something you want to do to succeed. So then there will clearly be friction.

You were a little vague in your post. How long were you under these people's wings? And what were the instructions like? Did you ever reach a milestone you didn't cross?

If you weren't getting results after a certain period of time, and each coaching call basically went the same way, then there is reason to disconnect.

Of course, ethically they would give you your money back if you didn't get any results, but what kind of results did you get anyway?

    Just curious to know more.

    Thanks
    Marc

PS. A real coach worth their salt is probably in the $5k range, and that's per month. And would have some sort of guarantee, but you would also have to guarantee that you'll follow through, for example, certain milestones each week, and if you don't, you're fired.

    That's just my perception though.

I've had coaches and mentors before. Both helped tremendously because I took very different things away from it.

One lasted a few times but that was all I needed. The mentor, who is also my older, is my on-going source of encouragement and inspiration. I'm very fortunate to be in this position. Go find a mentor or a coach who can help you.

I also coach others in helping them succeed with dating. The #1 rule of finding a good coach is to quickly figure out if they have integrity or not. If they don't, no matter how good the price is, run.

Coaching in itself is good but like all things (even in sports) you have to find the right for you; the one you have a synergy and get on well and nothing is taken personally. They should be able to see any potentials mistakes you might do/not depending on their own views and experiences and be able to push you outside your comfort zone and still keep you focused on your overall outcome. Ask lots of questions that are pertinent to you, ask everyone you know and even non IM people who have coaches etc. Do your own due diligence and homework. you may have to try one or two before getting the right one. :-)

Willie Crawford has great advice. He's everywhere, too...so what he does must be working!

That said...I would recommend Alex Jeffreys as a coach in a heartbeat. He has a program, the Marketing with Alex WSO and includes an affordable monthly membership with optional upgrade for his 1:1 coaching. I have been part of the membership site, and I can't begin to tell you how eye-opening it was for me. It cast everything into a new light and suddenly this whole IM thing (and what I need to do to be successful with it) "made sense". Now, as others say, there are probably many excellent coaches out there...however, IMPLEMENTING their training is another entirely different matter, altogether...!!

I would love to have a coach that sets everything up for me and shows me in the process how it all works. By that I mean, what he would do if it were him doing it and he would show things like setting up a niche, selecting a niche and then going into the Squeeze pages and showing things like setting up a paypal button, getting into Auto responders and showing exactly everything he would do. Not just say do this and that and get back to me. I am sure many newbies will take people up on a offer like that

I would think there is enough free information out there that you can learn everything you need if you stay on focused path and don't get sidetracked and take action. Isn't that really what coach does...keeps your butt focused. I equate it to hiring personal trainer at the gym. If you have a plan and don't screw around...u can get same results and you will have done it on your own which at end of day carries more weight.

        Soooo true.
I keep hearing "follow the advice here on WF." The advice you'll get on WF in general is indisputably good, but if you can't make sense of it and it all seems jumbled and you can't see the forest through the trees, how useful is it all?

I would also add that, if you choose a coach, s/he can keep you focused & teach you the technical aspects of it all; however, no matter how good the coach is:
        • A coach can't make you turn your computer on each day and sit in front of it
        • A coach can't create the extra time in your day to implement the strategies. You can LEARN time management from a good coach, but they won't "make" you follow the time management techniques.
        • A good coach can lead you, motivate you, and advise you, but can't do the work "for" you.
In other words, pick a good coach or mentor, but in the end it will all boil down to you and the efforts you're willing and able to put forth based on their teachings.

I think you are a big part of whether a coach can help you or not. You have to know what you want to get from the program and you have to have realistic expectations. You can't expect a coach to give you a million dollar idea from scratch. It helps to know what you have to offer and what you want to do.

That being said, I've coached many people but I've never had a coach. I did join a mastermind group a couple of years ago and paid $6k to one of the popular gurus. It turns out that this guy was way too busy and didn't really have time to deliver what he promised. The only reason it wasn't a complete waste of time is I ended up making like $15k selling email ads to other members of the mastermind. So I guess the connections I made through his group worked out for me. .

I am incredibly tough on my new coaches. I know exactly what I want and how to go about doing it. When I get coaches I vet them through several different means. Most people just want to see their possible new coach standing next to a Learjet or something. Maybe that means something and maybe it doesn’t.

Don’t you just really want to know if they can coach you?

Try getting an Olympic gold medal without a coach. A coach is far more than just someone yelling what to do at you. Where would the NFL be without coaches? That alone should convince you of the value of actual real coaches. And by the way, isn’t it fascinating that most of the coaches in professional sports hardly ever even played the game? What does that say about how to choose a coach?

Then it’s off to you doing the work. (Why is work a four letter word? Ha!)

I've had several coaching experiences, with mixed results. I think it's better to know first what you want to do i.e. what area of internet marketing you want to pursue and what specifically you want to learn. Then get a coach with an established coaching reputation in that area. Just signing up with someone who promises to teach you "internet marketing" never ends up well.

Here is what I will say about coaches..... make sure you are getting ONE-ON-ONE training. "Training videos" do not answer your questions.

I have coached many of people and have had coaching myself.... I ALWAYS make sure I do one-on-one training with every student and I personally will not hire a coach myself unless I know I am getting one-on-one coaching.

Make sure you get testimonials from past students and also remember, you have to take some responsibility yourself to put into action what is being taught. If any coach guarantees you that you will be making $X within X amount of time, I would run. A coach can only give you the tools and tell you what to do, you have to actually apply what is taught and really find your groove.

    I agree with JAY.

My students I work with one on one. No video or stuff like that.

The coaching students that listen to me and take action make sales and do not get disjointed.

You put the hard work in, and take action you will see result.

If you just sit back and expect the world, and do nothing, you are kidding yourself.

If you think people like frank kern or others sit on their ass and watch million$$ role into their bank account you are kidding yourself.

IT takes hard work, and determination. sometimes even hard years of work to see benefits. The problem is 95% of people give up in their first few weeks and whine on about their coaches.

Pick a good coach, and work hard for weeks, and you will see results. There is work in just doing thes basic steps to find a coach, but most people do not even do that! LOL. I think you see my point now.

Before you hire a coaching ASK YOURSELF ONE SIMPLE THING!? am I going to get off my fat arse and do something?? IF NO, do not bother getting a coach. Pretty simple right.

Well, coaching is very helpful if you want to take your business to the next level. I think it's best to figure out what you want to do for example affiliate marketing, product creation, CPA, etc.... and then make a go at it. If you start making a consistent income with your methods and you want to take it to the next level, look for a coach that expertise's in what you're doing. That's what I did and I'm currently improving my business at a faster rate than I was without a coach.

So two things. find out if you are going to get one on one coaching and how much before hand. Not too tough to know.

The other thing is that you can also get your questions answered without one on one coaching. Ask here - there seems to be a lot of good information. and ask google - do the research. Often I can get questions answered in someone's material and I don't need to pay for the often higher priced coaching.

More of what an effective coach will do for you is provide interaction to work things out. One on one coaching is far more than just getting questions answered. It is about direct interaction while doing the work to speed things up an incredible amount of time. You can find the answers and training all over the place for just about anything at very reasonable prices and often free. But if you want the best help then it's about coaches, mentors, and teachers.

Often even a group teaching can be very important as well. The interaction with others in the same boat as you helps to drive accountability and provide real time proof things are working. You can't get that in one on one coaching.

So different forms of learning are needed at different points. Figure it out, and you will be successful every single time.
