Methods your Wife could use to Make Money Online?

My wife has recently moved here to Australia with me from the USA.

At the moment she is waiting for her Visa to process (2-3 months away) so she can not go and get a job and has been attempting to 'make money online' through survey websites etc. in her spare time.

Obviously anyone with the slightest knowledge in IM knows that there are far better methods than this which can provide some sort of a real income. She is not interested in learning all of the marketing and analytics side behind IM. She does not want to promote affiliate products or do testimonials on Fiverr. She may be willing to do some Fiverr gigs but also hates the 'BS' side of marketing.

On the other hand she has a really strong tolerance for boredom and monotonous work so anything like that would be fine for her. Her first language is English and she has completed first year of University so she is quite academic. I am thinking 'services' are probably best for her.

I have been trying to come up with some reasonable methods for her to make money and so far all I can think of are the following:
- Article Writing
- Virtual Assistant
- Fiverr Gigs

Your responses and additions to the list would be much appreciated.

Thanks team,
Adam.

Add ODesk to the list. As an academic, she will have some skills for which someone will be willing to pay.

Freelancer.com is another good one. There are also a number of article writing sites that pay you to write articles if you search this forum.

    Have her consider:

    1) Ebay
    2) Writing a book
    3) Half.com
    4) Freelance writing
    5) Fiverr

    P.S. I didn't mention Amazon for a reason

I'm also in AU from the US without a work permit. Thank god for the Internet!

This really depends on her skills and interests. You mentioned what she doesn't like though not what she does like and is good at. If she has good skills for some type of thing that could be a service then go for it. Sounds like that'll suit her best since she doesn't like marketing.

Whatever skills she has she can offer in odesk or elance. A general VA is certainly something she can try. Writing may be tough, there is a lot of competition. My wife does translation on elance in her spare time and makes a few bucks.

Funny, I have noticed a lot of ads on Freelancer sites looking for open minded females who are comfortable in front of a camera.

According to the urban dictionary "Open mindedness is when even if you think you are right, you know that you can be wrong and are always willing to listen to and hear an opposing or contradictory view."

my fiancee is actually a lot smarter and better at sales than I am, I would show her how to setup and run affiliate campaigns and how to buy cheap advertising.

That's so simple even a high school dropout like myself can do it

I don't think a few months is worth going through the learning curve. Three months for what - to develop a workflow only to drop it when she gets a full time job? Writing articles is probably the quickest way to earn online, and I just don't feel like writing articles is worth it for such a short period.

I think her time would be better spent getting certified in a skill or two. Like for example, tutoring people for this or that test preparation. Picking up a language to tap into the translation market. Getting certified as a yoga instructor, because you can always find work doing stuff like that.

She could try medical transcription. Get qualified, no shortage of work there. Deal with the pro sites, not the instant sign up sites. More like $30 per audio hour, not $10.

It might be helpful if you told us what jobs she does or might do.

Best of luck to you both.

If you have actually done any sort of freelance writing whatsoever then you have actually possibly contended the very least one client vanish after you have actually provided the work. With Fiverr, when you receive the gig, as long as you provide a quality product you earn, whether the buyer accepts it or otherwise. With Fiverr, you choose what you're going to sell and you create the gig description. If the buyer does not like it, he just does not get. Yes, he could call you and request something various. You prevent a whole lot of that 'bargaining' talk you have when you're doing freelance writing. In the freelance globe this is a big plus and it's one factor many writers favor to sell on Fiverr. You can push your lead times out when you want time off or you can work in advance when you require additional money. If you're a skilled author, Fiverr is easy money. You pull up an event, crank out a 450-word short article in about 10 minutes, deliver it and proceed. Piece of cake! The one facet of freelance writing that individuals despise most is the down times when you do not have any type of money being available in. As soon as your gig begins creating some momentum there's always plenty of deal with Fiverr due to the fact that new customers enter the industry every day. Fiverr puts a bunch of initiative into promoting their site to entice those customers, all you have to do is advertise your event. And you don't even have to do that once it removes.

      regards.

Tell her to check Gumtree as there are often "cash" jobs advertised.
She can do surveys on the YourVoice site....I find I get money a few times a year from that one. It's the only one that pays okay in Australia.

The potential for this varies enormously, depending on her experience and references/testimonials (which would naturally be the first thing any potential employer will want to see); I hope you'll excuse the observation that the comment above about her not being interested in learning the marketing and analytics side behind IM does make me think this may not necessarily be the best way forward for her.

They pay $3.92 net (at the initial/basic level), so she'd need to find something in high demand and more-or-less automated, for it to help much, I'd imagine?

I think the suggestion above that she should write a book is an interesting one, with some potential. Perhaps especially if she can write a "problem-solving book"/"solution book" for some in-demand niche, after doing the relevant research?

Well, you say that, but the reality is that we're talking about methods your wife could use to make some money online.

I don't have a wife, believe it or not, and therefore perhaps shouldn't technically be offering any suggestions/information, here: I originally looked at the thread only out of curiosity because the title made it appear to have been posted by someone who had a specific reason for not wanting to hear from any women at all, and I ended up just surprised that you'd worded it this way, as if "opportunities for wives" are somehow different from those for anyone else, and you're asking only married men (and I was wondering if your wife would also be surprised about that, to be honest ... but I guess that's your business, not mine) ...

Hah! Those were my same thoughts exactly. Then after reading the question I wondered why he didn't ask "Methods my wife could use..." since he's obviously asking about his own wife, not anyone else's! Not that anyone's gender or relationship status has any relation to their skills or how they make money online.

  • I think this would also depend on what your wife can do. Although there's a lot of competition for writing jobs, there is a strong demand for technical and financial writers. So if she has a strong tech background or she knows her money markets she would have an easier job finding writing jobs.

Hmm, maybe article writing on elance, odesk would be a good one. Though she'd be classed as working in Australia even if it's internet work, so a working visa would be needed for that if she's Australia resident.

Your post makes me laugh though, when you say "your wife" in the title. You give the impression your wife can only handle monotonous/boring stuff, so it's coming across that you categorise all "wives" in general as less capable of success than their husbands.

I wrote a Kindle ebook on ways to make money online and there are tons of opportunities! Some are one time and some are on going for part or full time cash.

Quick cash - Facebook Community Yard Sale...you can flip your unwanted items to someone who wants them in minutes.

Easy profits - looking for goods that are on super discount at big box retailers and checking with an app to see what they are selling for online and flipping the profitable ones.

Crazy cash - got a great head of hair? Sell it on a hair resale site (who knew)

Snap pics - yep companies are paying field auditors to snap and upload pics, check on locations etc.

many more also including the AdSense Publisher, affiliate sales, etc.

      What do you do?

Being a "wife" has been made clear to be a relevant factor, yet the obvious answer (which I assume) relative to this factor has been totally overlooked in all suggestions and she's being treated as anyone else looking for an online job.

Wouldn't it be mutually beneficial and more effective if she somehow got involved in one of your projects?

Couldn't you do with someone who you know personally acting as an assistant for you rather than you recommending she go out and work for someone else on Fiverr or similar?

I was under the assumption the OP had a regular offline job and only wanted to help his wife find something she could do online for now since it's the only way she could legally make money without a work permit for a local job, which she probably plans on getting once she could.

I have had my wife doing content writing and there is a high demand for quality content. She has been doing very well with repeat customers. I can always use more content writers. If you want to send me a PM with some content examples maybe I can pass on some work when I get busy.

Since you've listed out article writing, I think that's a good way to go. Since she's a native English speaker, she can get very good rates than the $5 she can get from Fiverr. Why don't you ask her to apply for some of the content mills like textbroker, or she could sell her content at constant-content.com too. Warrior for hire section in here is a good place to get her some lasting clients. You could help her with it too, since you already have an account in here. Good luck to you and your wife.

I'd say start a blog and work on personal branding in her spare time - Something that will last a lifetime. Then monetize it with some passive income. Can be started now while she works on freelancing. My lady is starting a blog about Tea.
