12k hits each day now but how would you monetize?

My site is based around relationship advice. It is a forum / q&a site which is really picking up in traffic.

I use adsense on every page and make around $30/day. I also use a few clickbank products.

I tried dating affiliate schemes but really most people coming are not single so the results were not great.

If this were your site, what else would you do to squeeze out some extra revenue?

Well I would promote products related to relationships. Are you positioning your ads in the right places?

I checked the main page of your website and didn't see a product about relationships. It's not surprising that you're not earning much with those ads. Apart from that the ads only have the top part above the fold. I would replace the ad on the right with the recent posts widget, that way I would have one ad completely above the fold.

I do have another skin designed and ready to go. I am just nervous about losing revenue. The new theme uses this http://themeforest.net/item/robust-q...review/3873002 as a basic layout then would be in my colours and logo. The thing about this skin is that it is mobile optimised whereas my site is not. 75% of my users come on a mobile.

Would you go ahead with the reskin at the risk of losing ad rev?

Also you are looking at the homepage. Dive into one of the posts to see the ad layouts there. The homepage gets the least amount of traffic

Forums are notoriously hard to monetize.

The vast majority of forums out there use a combination of Adsense and paid membership levels.

I would be looking to turn some of that 12k/day into recurring memberships, if possible.

If you can get 10,000 people to partake in a $14.99/year membership, you're making almost $150,000 a year.

Also, as PortlandRocks suggests, flipping isn't a bad route to go if you're comfortable in that space and can avoid paying a multiple of your monthly earnings.

    Good luck.

Try selling ads, if the traffic is targeted with some quality, your users will get good CTR as well as throw in more money for advert.

He can but if you think about it, he's only making $30 a day in Adsense (which are ads) from 12K visitors a day.

      He's definitely doing something wrong.

I'm making 10x that from half the traffic he's claiming to be getting each day.

      And that's just adsense

I would maybe offer some advice, but he hasn't come back in over a month to even thank anyone for giving some suggestions.

So I'm keeping my mouth shut

I think if I had 12k hits/day on a site, and needed cash.

The first place I would start is researching the demographics of your traffic,
      and building a user profiles.

At least look at your site in Alexa, Quantcast and Compete..

I'd also start polls/surveys/questionnaire threads in the forum, if you need to, to get them engaged offer a prize or gift for all or the best, etc answers.

But REALLY find out who your typical user is..

Depending on what that analysis uncovered,
you could then run more user targeted banner offers, (lazy and least prefered option)

or you could build a list if not even several lists for email marketing targeted offers.. (sound long term approach)

And if that failed then I'd flip it..

Not sure if you're still looking for answers, but since it was brought back, this seems like the best advice to monetize a user base like a forum.

Before you can sell something to someone you need to know who they are and what they're interested in. Once you know that, you can start putting the right products in front of them.

For an example, if you're user base is 95% in a relationship, then promoting something that teaches you how to get a girlfriend wouldn't be profitable. But you could do well on something that teaches how to keep the relationship going or how to get your ex back or something like that.

Dating sites are for single people not those in a relationship (in theory) so that's probably why you had little success with those.

Maybe try one of those sites where people can sign up to cheat on their partners instead.

In all seriousness though there must be plenty of relationship books and other products out there, have you looked on Clickbank and Amazon?

    Hi

    Are you building a List?

You don't need an email list to survive online but it is alot easier if you do. When you capture peoples information it gives them a chance to warm to you and start to trust you. If you then promote your offers you will be more likely to convert them to buyers.

    Hope it helped.

    Hey,
What i would do is try to give something for free! Some great information related to your niche!! try to capture the emails! and start promoting stuff to your targeted email list!
With that kind of traffic you can build a good list fast

So, it's a relationship forum. Why don't you look for the popular topic in your forum and create a product on that topic. I mean, this is the best form of product research after all, and you have your own forum to do it. You have highly targeted traffic in there, so you can make a lot of sales and build your buyers list that way.

Also, as Gothilda above me said, you could buy your freebie list with that traffic too, and then promote them your offers or affiliate offers.

If you don't want to do all of that, why don't you sell ad spaces on your forum, like the Warrior forum and a lot of the other forums do? You're getting a good number of visitors per day, so I'm sure you won't find it difficult to find buyers for your ad spaces.

    Good luck.

From everyone I have talked to about forums, they all have said the same thing: they are terribly hard to monetize.

Maybe you could somehow use the forums to channel visitors to other types of content? For instance, make a website of static content that is connected to the forum. Then post content to the website and then allow people to discuss it in the forum? And occasionally post product reviews or sell your own product.

Unfortunately most people who use forums are more tech-savvy than the average crowd, and thus won't be clicking on as many advertisements as 'normal' visitors.

I would flip it for fast cash. You should be able to get quite a bit of money, especially since it's already making $30 per day. Someone will see the opportunity to monetize it further and they will buy it johnny on the spot for what should be a nice pay day for you.

Check out Flippa and see if you can find any similar sites with similar traffic, etc. and see what they sold for. A $900/month site with 12k hits per day should bring in some nice cash for you.

You might need to hire someone or JV with someone who knows about the niche and could create good content for it. You have the traffic though no content. You would need good articles and some products like Ebooks and such and optin forms to build a list. Integrate the forum into the sidebar of the main content, so it's all one authority site for relationships etc.

As others have said, you have all the research you need right there on what the audience wants and what questions and problems they want solved by looking at what they're talking about and asking questions about.

Check out this site for an example of someone doing it right.

If you are selling other peoples clickbank products why not create your own? You would get 100% of the profits and you could expand on it by offering an upsell to a paid membership site. Also, start building a list so that you can mail them just like Allen does on this forum w/ WSOs.

You can also sell ad space to other product owners in the niche.

Where are your visitors coming from? Desktops? Mobile devices? Monetizing via adsense is less effective, especially if your visitors are mobile driven.

I'd also work to understand exactly who these people are and what their interests are. Once you know these two things, you can put together a monetization strategy that will kill it!!

If your visitors are mobile, you might want to check out app recommendation programs like youAPPi.com.

I would try content locking. Maybe have some quality content where the visitor will have to complete a free offer before they can see it?

The other thing I would try is giving away a free report so you are building a list, but then you come up against monetizing that - CB or CPA offers perhaps.

As others have already said you need to focus on primarily building a list at this stage so that you can begin marketing to them and selling your own products.

Also focus on perhaps selling some ad space just like this site does. Being that your site receives a good amount of traffic every month many others in your niche would definitely benefit by receiving some of that traffic and you'll make guaranteed monthly income.

Also focus on selling your site if the rest of these ideas fail. You can sell your site for 12x it's monthly revenue and make fast cash.

That's the million dollar question (how to monetize).

However, 12K hits isn't a lot. How many unique visitors? For me millions of hits generally equals tens of thousands of unique visitors.

For example, last month one of my websites received 2 million hits, and 30,000 unique visitors.

Every website is different of course, but for example if your ratio of hits to unique visitors was the same as that one of my websites then it means that 12,000 hits only equals 180 visitors. Which isn't a lot.

I think your main focus right now should be building traffic. However it is also important to monetize. Here are some tips:

The top two main ways of monetizing a site:
    * Adsense/PPC Advertising - Pay Per Click
    * Affiliate links like Amazon and Ebay and others/PPA - Pay Per Action

    Other ways:
    * Sell a product (self-advertising monetization)
    * Sell a service

I will definitely try to get these people to join my email list so that I will still be able to email them whenever there is new content on the form or promote other relevant products to them. With the traffic you are getting, you will be able to quickly build the list which you can use it to monetize it.

You can sell solo ads and sell ads space on your website. There will definitely be people who will be interested in your advertising services.
