To SYNDICATE or not to SYNDICATE

Hi folks! I've been away for a while launching a new site, lots of information and good stuff.

Question:
Last year I got pageone syndicator PRO and let my posts and pages get syndicated out to tumblr, blogger, etc.

It seems to not work anymore, but my larger question is WHAT ARE best practices in 2013 for syndicating?

I'm doing some normal rss submissioni,. I don't want to overdo it.

Thanks in advance!
Mark

None of what you describe above is what people building our businesses by syndicating content really call "syndication", Mark.

It's just what manfucturers and marketers of various kinds of software like to label with the word "syndication".

It's become a very fashionable word, since marketers are increasingly realizing that it can be a hugely successful way of attracting highly targeted traffic without depending on search engines at all. But most of the products sold and services provided "under the name of syndication" actually have nothing to do with it, really.

Real "content syndication" refers to the type discussed here.

Anything that you can submit yourself, with or without software, without "a publisher of some kind deciding to accept and publish it because it's content that he chooses to share with his own readers/subscribers/visitors" is of extremely limited - if any - value, compared with true syndication: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6575732

What you're describing above certainly seems not to work any more; yes. But what you're describing above isn't "syndication" in any meaningful sense of the word (even if its manufacturers do call the product that!). It's just the word "syndication" being misused as a euphemism for mass submission and in reality largely attempted SEO-based purposes.

It's all about relationship-building, and providing publishers (of various kinds) with the content they need: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5035794

Amazing how the marketing of bells and whistles for SEO even after all this time helps me to NOT listen to my own gut not to clutter up the gosh darn web with dupes.
