Help with Monetizing my Blog

Hey guys,

I am a new user of the forum but I have been a non-registered lurker for some time now. I have been doing lots of research on SEO and passive income strategies.

I have had a blog for four years now and it gets some decent stats (see attached). I have over 900 posts on the blog full of free information and tutorials in a specific area.

I am thinking about different ways to monetize my blog which has become a leading resource in it's community. I was thinking of possibly making an e-book or two or maybe a compiled video.

Ultimately, I would like the forums input on how to introduce my readers (who have been getting lots of stuff for free) to the concept of purchasing products from me?

Should I integrate it into the blog or create a separate website and use the blog to point to it?

I am hoping all the information i get from this forum and my research on SEO/internet marketing can also increase the plateau of traffic I have seen over time.

Thanks in advance!

Jeff, monetizing any site comes down to selling products, or services, or both.

Think about what products and services you can offer in your niche.

    Are you capturing leads?

Well your readers should expect you to monetize it. When I build a website for monetization, I start slow. Build it up for six months then add something. Then wait a few months and add something else.

Although I do not like google any longer I love affiliate offers. I see nothing wrong with a sidebar with products in it. You can always go with google but man they just don't pay anything any longer and have so many rules.

    Hi my friend,

The best way to monetize you blog is to create a balance of free valuable content & sales. whatever niche your promoting, give them free valuable information on the product or service the first half of the week, then do a call to action(to buy the product) at the end of the week!

With the type of site you're describing, I would imagine selling your own products and services would work well. Your audience has already validated the information you have to offer by your sites popularity. This means you can feel pretty certain that developing a quality product in this field will yield solid results.

I wouldn't worry about introducing monetization. In this day and age, people absolutely expect it. Will you get some visitors, who are used to getting everything for free, crying about not getting your product for free? Sure, but that's part of the game.

As for how to promote your products (either as a part of the blog or as it's own site), I'm not sure what you mean?

If you mean writing an ebook (with it's own site and everything, completely independent of your blog/brand) and simply marketing it on your blog, why would you waste the brand loyalty you've built through your blog?

Are you currently capturing email sign-ups on your site?

I think a great approach would be to get your readers onto an email list / newsletter, then it's on your terms when you contact them (not waiting for them to come back to your site whenever they feel like it).

Spend a little time building a relationship over email, then start surveying your list to find out what kind of problems they are still having, what kind of product they would like you to make, and then eventually once you create a product that you know your audience is interested in, have a "launch", build the hype, get people involved and excited to get their hands on it. Make it a limited time only to increase the "scarcity factor" and get people clambering to buy on your terms

Jeff Walker's product launch formula is the BIBLE for this kind of thing, I've not got it because he only "releases" it occasionally, but from what I've learned from the free info he gives away, this really is an awesome way to go.
