How are you emailing?

We are looking at mailchimp to handle our email newsletter/campaigns. However, I was less than impressed with their templates. I am looking for html emails that will include pictures and text that we can change weekly. How is everyone handling email? did you have your template custom build, did you build it yourself or did you buy third party html email templates?

Thanks

I use plain text only with most my campaigns, if I have a specific niche that needs a touch I hire someone to make a template for me. It will usually be based off the website.
I never really got into mailchimp. I use getresponse now and I have never liked any of the templates any of the websites use.
I can get a template made for 20 bucks from a virtual worker and since it is a long lasting campaign its worth it.

    I use aweber...usually I don't use templates at all...just plain text.

From time to time I test and plain text seems to pull better... *shrugs*

here is amazing html email I receive periodically. http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=...9&e=1e1dd66630

If we can get ours to even remotely look like it...we would be ecstatic. Mailchimp is free and they allow dual campaigns (maybe test text vs html). Our product is natural cosmetics so visual (html) might player bigger part than some of you who I suspect are more aligned with information based products.

Won't be hard just pay the price and thousands can do it for you. Actually I do not like it though. I didn't even look at all of it. I want something direct and to the point with mine.

I like plain text and it makes it easy to write and send my emails from my GetResponse iPad app. Though Plain text doesn't track open rates cause there is no image in the email to count the opens. I can only track the CTR that way, and while I care mostly about the CTR, it's be nice to see the open rates also.

      Hi,
I use in-house mailing software. Text email or text like email. It goes to inbox. So no issue. But I have limited number of email list. I do not want to send emails to a unrelated list.

I was looking at aweber. They charge monthly. Can you please tell me whether they have a opt-in email bank ? Or I have to build my list with emails collected by me only.

      Thanks

    I use aweber and getresponse.

I don't use templates at all in my mailing.

I also do not use plain text, although my HTML does "look like" plain text, with bold and italic characters.

      Hey Bill,

You should spend a few extra seconds to copy and paste your HTML email into the plain text section of Aweber/GetResponse... This will help increase your deliverability.

Plain text will nearly always inbox better than HTML. The problem with plain text is you are limited in the tracking of opens and clicks and in the aesthetics.

However, sending both only takes a few extra seconds and is definitely worth it. If you are sending HTML emails to folks with "plain text email clients" (like webmail) then any links that you hyperlinked with text will not be clickable. And using URLs as hyperlink text in HTML emails (which would be clickable in plain text email clients) causes you to get a higher spam score since the link now looks like a phishing link because it says "www. my link here.com" but the email client will read it as "clicks. aweber.com/sljdljljfad139h"...

      Just some food for thought.

      Cheers,
      Coby

We used to use Mailchimp templates, but since decided to go for a simple text layout with different font sizes and bold emphasis. I think it's far more elegant. A newsletter shouldn't have to be visually complex, it should present useful things in a simple and clear way.

I don't use templates but Aweber allows you to add image and text blocks so I put my website logo at the top then the text underneath and sometimes an image block if I want to use a picture.

My CTR shot up massively when I started including images with calls to action in them. Really basic images that just consisted of a plain background and text,

I use plain text emails unless you are in a niche where you find graphics are effect. (like a cooking niche). I have clients in that niche and they use a lot of picture to show the subscribers how things look.

In my business its important that you read and listen, so I don't use templates.

The way your e-mail should look depends exclusively on your business model.

If you position yourself as a professional company, a plain text e-mail won't cut it.

If you position yourself as a friendly guy who wants to help others solve their problems, a plain text e-mail will probably do it.

The best idea is to always test different approaches, draw conclusions and keep testing.

As for the auto-responder, GetResponse and Aweber have been fantastic for me. I wouldn't really recommend anything else.

Well I don't do to many email blasts (I been neglecting EM), but I created my own responsive html email template (like a mini landing page)and inserted it into wp autoresponder and send blaster.

I also configured list eruption to work with wp autoresponder, so now I can have an unlimited amount of email subs and not spend a nickel.

I did some analysis on email marketing providers (compared 50+) and demo'd a bunch of them.

I have to admit, in terms of cost, ease of use - especially for the beginner - you probably won't find anything better than Mailchimp. I still use it even though I can an hosted email marketing or more advanced hosted services.

Like others said it before, I also think plain text is enough, and if you want something more interesting for your email campaign, you can hire somebody to do the work for you.

Does all emails go to recipient's inbox or sometimes it goes to spam-box too? Is your service provider smart enough to stop going to spam folder?

*** A word of warning about MailChimp ***

Take a look at their Acceptable Use Policy mailchimp.com/legal/acceptable_use/

There is a lot of niches that they won't allow emails to be sent to.
Here are the ones most relevant to us in IM:
      • Work from home, make money on online, and lead generation opportunities
      • Online trading, day trading tips, or stock market-related content
      • Multi-level marketing
      • Affiliate marketing
So don't expect a great service from MailChimp if you are in these niches. They'll shut down your account in seconds when you start mailing with a few hundred subscribers.

I started with MailChimp way back when but realized they don't like affiliate links. I now use GetResponse and SendReach. I will eventually settle on one autoresponder but I like features of both right now and am still testing.

Mailchimp was easy to use and good, but again it's free to a point so good to a point, I have used both Aweber & Getresponse and they both seem to do what your looking for. Another system is to use a wordpres plugin (Assuming your site is wordpress) called WYSIJA Link is not an affiliate Wysija: a Newsletter Plugin for WordPress it is a newsletter system that is amazing to make interactive emails.

I will also suggest one other thing, with gmail creating tabs, I am sure there is a post on here already on this, email marketing is in for some changes, so what ever you do, read up and learn more on the new Skype Group Marketing Method.
