Any ideas on marketing to an existing forum?

Hey everybody,

I'm new to the forum and just wanted to quickly introduce myself and a ask a question. My name is Mark and I just scored a new gig as the marketing coordinator for Ask Mars Venus, which is a division of Mars Venus, owned and operated by the author of the bestseller Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus.

I have a unique dilemma that I think other marketers would kill for! Namely, part of my duties is to manage and participate in our own online forum, which currently gets about 30,000 unique visitors every month (not counting forum "lurkers" that do not post)! I find that this is an incredible resource to research my marketing audience and learn more about the typical thirtysomething women (as a 28 year old single male, I need lots of research).

My question: How can I convert this audience to sales? How do I get them to pick up the phone and call our relationship specialists? Our web site traffic in general is pretty good, but the link from prospect to customer is always the tricky part for me.

Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading my first post!

Start posting with solid content from the organization and leave links, info on where to call to get more information, purchase items you have that would be of value to them, etc. you can also encourage them to complete surveys for you to make the forum better - recommend something as easy as survey monkey or askdatabase

Make sure there are sections of your forum that are billed as areas where members can post their questions. Like: Questions About What Men Want, Questions About What Women Want, Questions About Conflict Resolution, etc... whatever seems right for your product. Members will post their questions, other members will post answers and things they've learned. Then you or someone else can also post with helpful information and a link to an info product that could help in that area, or a mention that "this is exactly the type of question that some of our relationship counselors are trained to answer on a more in-depth level".
