Advice for a beginner

Hello to everyone on this forum! I have been reading it for quite some time as a guest and I really appreciated the help that is provided to newbies on various subjects. So I decided to become a member and ask my own question.
I am currently a student at a medical university and have completed my first 3 years of training successfully (3 more to finish). The thing is that the expenses are quite high and I seem to need just a bit more of income. I will be honest with you, I can manage as it is right now. I am just looking for a better quality of life atm. So by no means should my case be considered as "life or death".
I do not have programming knowledge and because of my university's requirements a limited amount of time. I don't expect "magic tricks to make fat money" or other solutions of that sort. I just need some insight on basic little things to earn just a small amount of money.
Thanks in advance to any bit of time you spend on this thread. I would also like to apologise for any mistakes made as English is not my native language.

Since you are in medical school, why don't you make a health related blog, and blog about things you like?

Great advice!!! I would also go with a Wordpress Blog hosted by Godaddy. You don't need programing skills and you can place Google ads on your blog.

You're a third-year med student? You have highly specialized knowledge that is very fresh in your mind. All you have to do is find a way to monetize that specialized knowledge.

I would be looking into doing some freelance writing in your field. Write and sell articles when you want, for who you want. This would give you the bit of extra income you're seeking and be able to be done on your own time. All you have to do is find clients who own sites/businesses that would be happy to pay for and could make use of your knowledge.

I would check around the popular freelance sites (Odesk.com, Freelancer.com, Constant-Content.com) and start looking for potential websites/clients to write for.

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

Start with your passions and interests...then dig deep to find commercial opportunities within those passions and interests. After years and years in business, starting many successful companies offline and online - I am more convinced than ever that you must love what you do. Of course, you need to understand business, market demand, how to understand niche buying patterns and how to effectively reach and communicate with your marketplace - but please do yourself a favor and apply all of this to a market and opportunity that you love!

I agree with the above. Since your background is in medicine and health, I assume, your knowledge may pay you handsomely. I also assume that this is an interest of yours.

Since your time is limited, I'd also suggest that you outsource as much as you can

Thanks a lot for the advice so far! I am interested in the two main ideas stated until now, health-related blog and article writing, and I am looking for more information on the web. Just to clear things up, yes medicine is something I am interested in. I expect to have 1-2 free hours maximum per day, though not always. Any new ideas or more information for the existing ideas are always welcome.

I would tell you to get the sequence correct in the first place. And here it is below:

-you need a high converting offer
-then you send traffic to it
          -back-end offer

Most marketers work on traffic first. Traffic wont do you any good if your offer does not convert. If you have a hour a day to start that will get it done. Later if you want to spend more time on your business, be my guess.

          I hope this helps.

You're going to need to get targetted traffic to what ever you are trying to sell.
I like to diversify rather than relying on just 1 traffic source.

I use all of these traffic sources:
            • Blogs
            • Optimizing your website for better conversions
            • Viral video marketing
            • Compelling Freebies
            • Collaboration strategies with affilaites and JV partners
            • Social Networking sites
            • Article marketing, Web 2.0 properties
            • PPC
            • Classifieds
            • Forums (like this one. WarriorForum is the best
            • Email marketing (Auto-responders)
            • Press Releases

I am trying to get accustomed to the new terms I encounter and it seems there are quite a few ways I can get started. Although I understand most things in theory, for someone like me who hasn't tried something like that before, taking action seems a lot harder. The diversity of options is great although I got a bit lost between all those options. I want to take into consideration what a friend said above to "stick to one thing" but I also want to do the right beginning. I know it is quite tiring but once again thanks a lot.

Using your specialised knowledge for a blog or two is a good place to begin.

To drill down and find a profitable niche, go to Amazon Kindle and check out their bestsellers for a few ideas. If you're very short on money and want to totally avoid start-up costs until you make some cash, start a self hosted Wordpress blog, write up to ten articles (posts) that are informative and original, this will give you a good headstart. You can outsource these but that will cost you money.
Find a product you believe in to promote and include the affiliate links in your articles. If you find a blog you like , use it as a guide for your own.

No matter what you begin though, stick with it and don't give up.

Maybe you can register your own domain name in what ever you are studying to be then find some affiliate programs to promote.

Then you can start to add content to it and hopefully get ranked in the search engines and start getting sales.

The more content you write about, the better.

    This is just a thought.

My number one advice is something a lot of people have a hard time following. Even me. But the best way to make money is to sell people exactly what they want, and leave yourself and what you think they should want out of the equation. So you could make a lot of money by finding a product, such as on Clickbank for example, that promises to give people what they want when they buy, in their sales copy. Then, buy the product and make sure it's good and delivers on it's promises. And promote it by driving traffic to it. We like to over complicate it, but as they say in poker, that's the nuts. That's the big secret.

Here's one idea, little bit different to the standard IM advice of "build a blog", "sell some products"

If you're a third year student, think about all the experiences you had getting up to this point.

What major obstacles did you encounter and how did you get over them? Do you have any special tips or advice that will save other students figuring something out for themselves? Related to your field of study, or otherwise.

Try brainstorming these kinds of things, then write your solutions to these problems up in a PDF, give it a snazzy name, then sell it on your own web site. Hand out some flyers around campus to 1st and 2nd year students, get word out... then once you've got some sales coming in you can think about reinvesting some money in some internet traffic to get students from around the country buying your pdf ebook.

I agree with Thriftypreneur you have fresh knowledge in a specific niche. Use this to your advantage and start doing some Freelance Article Writing.

There are Hundreds of jobs on Odesk for Medical and Health Related articles to be written. Use what you know already and make some extra cash. You can work when you want to and you don't have any obligations.

If you become really good, people will seek you out and be willing to pay anything for your services.

A wonderful idea Stevoarnold! The only reason I find it a bit hard is the limited campus in my city. Marc I will try to keep your advice in mind as I go on, that's the way I see marketing too. Nick Freelance article writing seems to me the most accessible idea for now so I think I will start with that.

I agree, article writing is likely to be the quickest and most reliable source. Try listing a gig on Fiverr. If you provide a good service then you can build up a good following quite quickly.

    Hi,

You could start off by building a list then directing the traffic straight
to a high converting affiliate offer.

You get to build a list of subscribers and see some affiliate commissions
    at the same time.

Newcomers need to see results right away or most of them may be
inclined to quit before they've had time to succeed.

By using other peoples hard work and promoting their products
as an affiliate you are giving yourself a chance of seeing some kind
of results straight off the bat.

Make sure that your free offer is closely related to the affiliate offer
so you can give that away in exchange for their email address and
you stand a far greater chance of seeing more affiliate sales that way.

Study how to set up your first list, look at the best converting affiliate
    products etc.

Learn as much as you can about list building, setting up a free offer,
setting up your autoresponder, seeking out high converting affiliate
    offers etc.

You'll find tons of great info right here at the W.F.

Go for it my friend you have nothing to lose and
    everything to gain!

    All the best
    Gavin

I would say that you should begin to blog since you are already an expert at many topics when you are training and rotating through different medical specialties. You can monetize the blog with adsense and ads once your reader base is established. You could also set up a recurring membership site on this same blog once you reputation is known. All of these require knowledge of a system of blogging to drive traffic, but long-term would definitely pay off for you. Hope that helps! Kristie from Georgia

  • If you want to make easy money, I recommend you to try GPT sites.

    Sites like microworkers.com, cashle.com, slicethepie.com can give you extra $50-$150 a month.

You can also try blogging or write articles.

Thanks for the new ideas! I don't think I have the required time (or patience :p) to try GPT sites, thanks for mentioning them though. I am still collecting info on making a blog and will soon start shyly writing some articles. I also greatly appreciate the little tips and advice provided!

You should try to sell special articles about medicine at Constant Content. This site gets a lot of traffic and you will easily sell your articles there if you will pay attention to their complicated guidelines. This is the difficult part.

However, you should focus on selling your articles there because there are not many authors writing about medicine and this is a demanded topic. You can find an editor to review your articles before submitting them so that you may be sure that they are according to CC’s guidelines. Later, when you will learn the guidelines well you can submit your articles without needing a review by an editor.

You can sell good articles for $50 - $80. CC gets 35% but you will still make a lot of money besides that. You should sell your articles at good prices so that you may easily make money. If your articles will be too expensive you will have to wait for the right customer. You should write a few expensive ones, but try to keep your prices the lowest possible so that you may sell your articles fast.

By doing a bit of market research to see what people are mostly in search of and setting up a couple of specialty blogs/websites that tackle those topics you can attract a lot of people and set up a great strategy for earning money by promoting healthy products.

People will trust someone with an aptitude for medicine much more than other online sources, and in this niche the trust factor really goes a long way.

Im going to give you the best piece of free advice you have ever had.

DONT get into internet marketing. Forget it now. Despite all the advice your about to hear on here, ignore it.

Newbies can end up spending hundreds if not thousands chasing an online dream without any results.

Stick to medical school, make ends meet with part time jobs and reap the rewards when you are qualified.....you'll probably end up making more money than 99% of people on warrior forum

Hi Erevos the health blog idea would be a relatively easy one to do. You already have the expert knowledge and could really help people.... how you monetize it will be the interesting part. You could have a membership blog.. where people with a certain disorder that you're an expert in.. could ask you questions. They pay a monthly fee for access. A membership site is pretty easy to setup. There was recently a membership wordpress plugin offered on the Warrior Forum called InstantMember that would do the job and I am sure others here can suggest alternatives... possibly free ones.

As others have stated.. make sure this doesn't hurt your medical school studies.

    Hope this helps.
