Hi, I need advice on approving affiliates...

Hi,

I'm going to be listing a few products on JVZoo and Digiresults, but I'm weary about about approving affiliates after one of my friends (as well as some others I've read about here) got scammed by some 'affiliates' after offering instant paypal commissions.

I want to do delayed commissions to be on the safe side, but I've noticed some people saying on their affiliate pages that they'll approve affiliates for instant commissions if they 1) know them personally and/or 2) have made 25+ sales.

Is someone who has made 25+ sales a good indication that they're trustworthy enough to automatically approve for instant commissions even if you don't know them? Or should I stick to putting everyone on delayed commissions until I feel comfortable changing to instant commissions?

Thank you

I would be more inclined to approve someone for instant payments
if they had 25 or more sales, but I would still try to look at who they
are and if anything about them made me uneasy, I would either only
approve them for delayed payments or even decline their request.

It's more about finding the right affiliates than getting as many as you
can, and one "bad" affiliate can cause a lot of problems.

Well, getting delayed commissions option is not bad for those you don't know or affiliates who just stepped into affiliate marketing.

I agree with you on "finding right affiliates".

But I wana say, "If a new affiliate can show some serious interest and has a powerful marketing plan for vendor products", giving them a chance is not bad at all.

Basically the way I'm doing it is no one gets instant payments unless they talk to me on the phone. If they have over 25 sales they go on delayed. If they want instant we can chat and I can suss it out based on how I feel about it. I like to think I have pretty good instincts but it's not fool proof obviously. If they have less than 25 they have to talk to me period. You definitely shouldn't approve anyone for instant payments if you're not sure what about them. Certain countries are a big flag on the radar too. Basically any third world country where scams proliferate.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for your advice, yea I agree, and I'd rather be safe than sorry and just have a few trustworthy affiliates.

Thanks for your help, I will def try talking to them first in that case, and I also think I'll stick to doing delayed commissions regardless. I know what you mean about certain countries to be weary of, I've been getting a few affiliates applying from India that have 25+ sales, but I still feel cautious about it all lol.

Thank you, that's great advice, I'll try doing both of those things.

Yea, great point, I guess I don't spend a lot of time on the WarriorForum talking to people, as you can see I'm new here lol... so maybe I should spend some time getting to know who's who, and also take on board what others have said about adding potential affiliates on skype and talking to them first. And in the meantime just stick to delayed commissions to be on the safe side.

I have also learned my lesson about approving affiliates. When I instantly approved around 20+ affiliates on Warrior Plus without knowing them except a few, I was really pissed off and got scammed. Right now, I am using the JVZoo platform and I have approved them but in delayed commissions. I even saw one guy who requests to be an affiliate which he had 25+ sales, but still if I don't know this guy for real, I still set him to delayed commissions.

I have indeed included my affiliate questions on how are they promoting my product. If they can't answer all of my questions, then I won't approve them. Delayed commissions are pretty much safer than instant.

I'm sorry that happened to you that really sucks I've also included a few questions affiliates have to answer and how they intend to promote etc but I've noticed a lot of generic copy/paste answers...

Are you still at risk of being scammed even if you set them to delayed commissions and pay them after the refund period?

I typically recommend to PayGear vendors not approving people they do not know for instant commission. If the affiliate is going to be a consistent affiliate then have them drive sales for two or three months. If they turn out to be real after a few months then turn them on instant.

Coming out of Corp. America as a manager, I tend to use what I learned there. EOE is the mainstay and you can't discriminate against a whole culture of people due to a couple bad apples.

Setting commission payments to "delayed" is your best protection; as there is no scam if they're not making money. Don't pay them until the refund period is finished. I tend to make my refund period 15days instead of the proverbial 30 or 60; this is from experience with processing banks. You can deftly dispute a chargeback with a good 15days under your belt.... its also very fair to the Customer -- they should know whether or not they want your product after 15days of possession.

15days also allows for a rather consistent payment schedule for your Affiliate(s), as well. That's how Clickbank pays; bi-weekly. You just have to employ control over self to not spend any of the money during that 15day period; as JVZoo just drops the money in your account.

That last point depends both on the nature of the product and on the claims made for it on the sales page.

It's a generality of marketing that, overall, the longer the guarantee period, the fewer the refund requests.

Delayed commissions if you don't know them. One of the crooks that I approved had 200+ sales (probably most fraudulent) and I got stuck with the bill when all the chargebacks came rolling in.

If those scammers would have been using their creativity for GOOD stuff, they would be much wealthier...

Anyway, good luck Lani. You have some good tips here.
