Bebo is Back in Britain

Michael Birch bought Bebo back for $1m which he sold for $850m 5 years ago.

Here is the full story

Bebo founder pays $1m to buy back site sold for $850m | Technology | The Guardian

He has pledged to put Bebo on right track after AOL spoiled the site [Bebo lost 40m users with AOL] but the main challenge he face is from Face Book.

As a British webmaster, will you be considering to benefit from Bebo after it is again in the good hands of Michael Birch? [I will certainly be keeping eye on it ]

As a budding offline entrepreneur I would love to be a fly on the wall as he makes his plans to start building the company backup. I find this type of stuff fascinating. On one hand you have one guy took a company and made it worth $850 million then you have a huge corporation drive it into the ground to the point the original owner can buy it back for $1 million. So he can build it up again????

    Somewhere Richard Branson is smiling....

I doubt he can build it back up, but how do you buy a site for 850 million dollars, than sell it back to it's original owner for 1 million lol

Has to be one of the biggest blunders off all time

I for one think he could turn its fortunes around , he's now based in San Francisco in a smaller tight knit company than AOL and will hopefully still have his feet on the ground , despite about $850 million in the bank!! I for one don't think Facebook is untouchable , they do alot of things right , but there is still scope for a different social network out there!

Good Luck Michael , from a fellow Cheshunt lad!

They have a chance (more then ever before) to market it as a place where your personal information is safe.

People are ever increasingly finding options to move away from facebook, so if the new Bebo is safe, then they could do really well.

Have you not been watching the news lately? Google "PRISM" and you'll see no one's information is safe anymore.

I have a huge authority site that will sell out with one day soon :-) Not sure I could ever step down from it and watch it get raped by anybody though.....

I also love stories like this :-)

This made me laugh, I was in the age group promoting the 850million bebo and then was in the masses that all decided to move to facebook about 2 years later. Just had a search for my bebo page, couldn't find it . But good times....

Edit: Just found it, that is not a pretty site. Hope bebo does not make a come back!
