Clickbank faulty or cheating?

Over the last few days I have given one of my CB products far greater exposure by creating a banner and moving it above fold. I knew something was seriously dodgy when the hop count only moved up by 6 or 7 over the last 2 days when it should have been much higher. I just decided to test it out by buying the product through my own hop link. Guess what? I did not get the sale credited.

I'm sure there are other ways to test if it's working or not. Buying through your own hoplink is most likely against their rules.

It's not against the rules and unless you know for sure, please don't give out advice like this. Spreading misinformation helps no one.

"We strongly advise that you do not order any products through your own HopLink.
If you choose to do so, your account may be suspended from receiving payments for
        any of your sales.

We understand that you would like a discount on products you wish to promote,
but ordering through your own HopLink is not acceptable and ordering through your
own link will cause your account to remain unpaid, even if you do meet the CDR.

While we understand your wish to purchase the products you hope to promote at a
discount, this is not the purpose of opening a ClickBank account, and is
forbidden in the Client Contract to which you agreed."

That's an email from a Clickbank representative. Sorry if that information was false.

 I know the thread you got that from and the guy was quoting a single CB rep who was proven to be wrong.... if you don't believe me, kindly point me to the section of the Client Contract which supposedly says people can't buy from their own links: https://accounts.clickbank.com/terms.html

*Hint: You can't, because that rep was wrong... there is no rule about it in the client contract

BTW, as a vendor on CB I've asked my account rep about this topic. She was very frank and said "We would obviously prefer people didn't use their own links, but it's such a small percentage of sales and we [CB] make our percentage either way so it's not a concern."

Actually not at all - it's permitted.

This is many people's primary reason for never promoting IM/MMO products from ClickBank - many of the potential customers for those products are already CB affiliates and will of course perfectly legally buy the products through their own hoplinks, making it pretty hard for the referring affiliate to be paid the affiliate commissions.

It's also the reason why so many IM/MMO products have high gravity figures but relatively low sales numbers: many affiliates have each been buying one copy through their own hoplinks and adding a point on to the gravity score each time (which is in turn how there are products with high gravities although sometimes few or even no affiliates are actively promoting them).

    Two questions, Anton ...

    (i) Did you see your affiliate-ID at the bottom of the order page, before paying?

(ii) Are you aware of ClickBank's current temporary glitch over recording sales, discussed in this thread? http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8235241

Wishing you good luck in getting this resolved!

"Faulty", slightly, at the moment. Doubtless it'll all be cleared up, as these things are.

You'll find this difficult to believe, I know, and obviously enough you had absolutely no reason at the time to question that information, but funnily enough it was actually "false"!

They did actually "withdraw" that wording and admit that its tone and meaning were inappropriate, and they clarified the position, after sending that to some people. There's a post on the board here by Harvey Segal explaining the exact details and circumstances of this.

Anyway, if you wanted to ask them again, now, you wouldn't get the same reply. It is permitted to buy ClickBank products through your own hoplink, and people regularly do so, which is the reason underlying those situations commented on in post #3 above.

(Admittedly, it's a funny old situation, for sure, when you've seen information from the company concerned and even that turns out not to be right! But in a way this is why it's worth clarifying this for people. )

Well that post was a response to someone who launched a weird and abusive attack on Alexa and myself saying that ClickBank forbids buying through your own hoplink and that we had been providing false information for years on this topic. His posts and therefore my response were subsequently removed.

So for the record my response was that a ClickBank rep had told me

"I just had a conversation with our exec in charge of policies, and he and I both agree that our response on this question was far too harsh and not necessarily the policy we want to have in place anyway. We'll be working to amend this to something more reasonable and to take into account vendors like you mentioned who are happy to let affiliates buy from them at a "discount" instead of giving affiliates the product for free."
