Digital Product Download

Hey guys,

So i am running successful web site on Wordpress platform. I am launching my product really soon. But it's DvD series, which takes up to 3 GB of space.

I want my costumers to download it digitally after purchasing it through pay pall or credit card.

Wordpress shop plugins allow you only to upload up 32 MB.

What we will be the best way for me to do it ?

Thanks,
Oliver.

If you're selling a video or something, then check out Amazon S3 for good video hosting

Amazon S3 is what most people use - 3GB is HUGE though - can you not compress it down a little.

Just from experience the larger the files can cause a headache for people if they have a slow connection which directly affects your customer service inbox

    God luck though

3 GB is a huge size. It may take hours for some connections. If you can't reduce the size, you must choose web-server that allows fast download. Download speed normally depends on 4 things

    1. B/W limitation and internet connection speed at server end
    2. Processing and Hard disc speed at server end.
    3. Server load. A lot of busy sites will make the download speed slow
    4. B/W limitation and internet connection speed at visitor end

You have no control on point 4. So you have to take smarter decisions on first 3 points.

euraffiliates, Points 1 and 4 are the same.
Did you mean to state someting else for these 2 points?
Can you post a new comment / edit the existing comment to clarify please?

Why was your signature file linking to a domain owned by someone else?

I am sorry. My type mistake. I have edited the point-4. It should be "at visitor end" where OliverKing has no control.

Thanks Alex for pointing it out.

Yes, digital files are actually really large. And most of you are right, it will be better for me to stick with the hard copy.

I just thought it would be more convenient for a costumer to watch videos right away.

    Thanks.

In that case netflixs, blockbuster and all those guys should quit selling digital dvds and sell hard copies, is that correct.

You need amazon s3 for sure. But you can change that 32 mb sending limit. I have never did it but my coders have alot.

On the download page...instead of one huge download...can you break it up into chunks or lessons?

    AmazonS3 is also a must.

I had the same dilemma, but with even more video data. I went for the membership site option (streaming video), with a download page if the customer desires to keep the files.

I thought about breaking videos into small chunks, but it will affect sales.

Membership site to stream videos sounds like a really good idea. Can you describe in details what type of services I need to use to set it up? I don't have such a big budget right now.

Thank you guys, information is really helpful
