Will You Be Mailing Your Lists On The 4th July?

Out of interest just wondered if those Warriors who have a US mailing list will mail their lists today given its the 4th July?

Or leave them in peace to celebrate?

Some people don't mail their list on weekend and national holidays, some do
    It's up to you :-)

I haven't decided but based upon past years, and past holidays, I have
no doubt that fully 50 of the email that actually makes it through my
    filters will be holiday greetings.

The other consideration is that a good percentage of subscribers on
many of our lists aren't American. If I do elect to send out a mailing,
I also have the capability to quickly and easily only send emails to
people in certain countries, or certain cities.

Actually, I have the capability to only send mailings to people of a
certain gender, or a certain age, etc.

It allows me to only email certain offers to people who should be
interested. I actually use 4 different autoresponder systems, for
various reasons, but one lets me be very targeted.

So... if I were perhaps speaking at a seminar in a given city, and
I wanted to host a meet-up afterhours, inviting all of my subscribers
in that city, including ones who weren't at the seminar itself, I can
now do it with a broadcast email... without annoying subscribers
in other cities or countries who don't need the inbox clutter.

I can also do that via SMS text messaging by the way

Other than for goods/services available only in the US, and situations with specific, geographically limited targeting, is there really such a thing, online, as a "US mailing-list"?

I know it's possible to work out most people's locations from their IP numbers, and so on, but do people really do this? I often wonder. For instance, on all my lists, there's a proportion of people using gmail addresses - without sorting them by IP number, or whatever, I have no way of knowing where they live. Granted, in population terms, the US may be the largest single national concentration of English-speakers online, but there are so many other countries as well ...

All the automated emails in autoresponder sequences which I have set to go out every 5-6 days which were due today, will go out today in the normal way.

I end a lot of my emails with something like asking an interesting/challening/entertaining question, and then say "We'll be discussing the answer next time, in 5 days' time". And of course subscribers are getting those emails on different days, according to the date on which they originally subscribed. This type of continuity dramatically improves open-rates and attention-rates, but it does also mean that you have to stick to the schedule!

It's up to them whether they choose to check their email.

Meanwhile, warm Independence Day greetings to all U.S. Warriors.

If you have specifically targeted your list building yes.

Even if I use server stats for specific domains it will show the level of country specific traffic, so its reasonable to expect that a domain with 95% US traffic would build a list which would compose of 95% US citizens.

If you have none of this available if you communicate with your list it soon becomes apparent where the majority are located, ok so this is not exactly a scientific approach but it is another way to gauge the overall profile of any given list.

I am. A lot of people on my list are from the UK and surely the American readers will still check their email even if they don't check it until tomorrow.
