One of the most overlooked ways to make more money

Strategic interlinking is one of the most overlooked ways to make money. Seriously. You put up a blog because you want your readers to be engaged enough to join your list or click on an ad. It follows that the longer your reader is on your pages, the more chances you'll get to get them to do what you want them to do. Sadly, too many bloggers and site owners fail to interlink related content or proven attention-getting content among their pages. As a result, you get a ONE SHOT situation. The reader comes in, gets the info, leaves. Sure, you should write engaging content that gently nudges them to sign up to your list or check out the rest of the site but by failing to link strategically you are just making it harder on yourself.

I think once of the most overlooked way is re-targeting.

Generally if the conversion ratio of your website is around 2%, re targeting helps you bring back some of the other 98%.

You are right. You need to keep the visitors in your site (it helps your ranking and your profit). I think you should always link (manually) to your bestselling posts and to your popular posts. There are many plugins that can help (e.g. SEO Smart Links) but the manual work just works better.

Good point regarding the manual linking. There are also featured post and automated related post plugins on wordpress that can be tweaked manually.

i manually interlink... it's a lot easier when you write all your own content that you are interested in with very few guests posts that you are interested in

Have you ever noticed that many sites have provocatively titled links and/or images near the bottom of an article or page?

i.e. cleavage and other topics that have click appeal, like '13 signs you are about to get cancer'

They are trying to get you to not hit the back button.

Yep, I noticed that with Outbrain and Taboola post syndication. Very nice.

Yeah I was researching a friends blog and his average reader is on over 10 minutes, I thought that is a long time and sure enough when I saw the blog it was clean crisp and full of great info.

I think it's overlooked, people focus on just raising their CTRs or conversion rates. But they don't focus on the other 98% as a whole. If I need to improve figures, I usually ask myself - how can I make an impact on this 98% that get away. So things like changing 404 error pages to redirect them to juicy content or offers. Putting things at bottom of posts.

Like when you cancel a mobile phone contract - they offer you enticing things to keep you to stay.

I removed the related post links from my blog because I thought they made it look too fussy. I have now reinstated them.

    • I used related posts plug in, but all it showed were the *last* few posts, not nec. related at all!

One idea I may go back to, is putting the link to a relevant post slap bang in the middle of the article they are on, or there's the option of just anchor linking it with single words in the article.

Which do you think is best?
