Does Using Paypal Increase Conversions?

I've read that using paypal will increase conversion rates which makes sense as they are trusted.

Here is one of the websites that I came accross while doing a google search.

Does Paypal really increase conversion?

Please can you give your opinion on what you think about paypal increasing conversions.

Offering Paypal means that people can buy your products if they use it. Most people do use it if it's available to them.

It depends on the type of product you're offering. If you're selling to "Internet" people, PayPal is great to offer. If you're selling to the general public, it could hurt more than it can help.

Example: If my mother was trying to purchase a shirt from an online retailer and they only accepted PayPal, she'd abandon the shopping cart and buy from another online retailer that didn't redirect through PayPal.

Since I'm from the "online" generation, I'd imagine it wouldn't bother me to see PayPal on ANY site I'm using. As a matter of fact, I am finding that a few retail sites are starting to offer PayPal options.

I do hesitate when I am on a "niche" site - buying an IM product or some other sort of info product. I feel like PayPal offers me some level of protection. A barrier between the unknown and my credit card number.

That 'increase your conversion' thingy is seen on PayPal's page if my memory serves me right. But never did I see a case study on PayPal's page how did they come up with that conclusion that having PayPal buttons on your website will increase sales.

It does logically make sense that paypal does increase conversions as they have aggressively marketed their brand and people trust them.

It may well increase your conversion at the same time you need to be careful about what you are selling. Make sure you read all the terms and condition of paypal before proceeding to offer any types of services.

        Best wishes,

While paypal can increase your conversion, you may find that they are more on the customer side than sellers. If you sell tangible goods make sure that there is safeguards in place, i.e always post goods with a signed-for service etc. if a claim is made then the money can be hard to recover.

Paypal is very easy, convenient and safe to use. What i don't understand is why some sites insist on accepting only credit cards or other payment options when so many internet users are "into" paypal already.. it just seems impractical.

In my opinion conversions can be increased further by using a merchant service such as 2Checkout or Blue snap.

That way you can offer users who cannot pay via PayPal an option to buy.

I think many just assume everyone has an active PayPal account and can pay through it, but that's not always the case. Many have had their PayPal accounts limited for one reason or another or simple don't want to create a PayPal account.

Paypal is one of (if not) THE biggest and most trusted payment processor online. Google Wallet is soon closing down which goes to show you even a company as big as Google couldn't compete with the likes of Paypal. When it comes to money, people are going to stick with someone they can trust and so it would take a lot of time for a new payment processor to hit the market and make any sort of impact.

WillR was spot on I agree 100%... I use paypal for all of my products and services, Can't really say if it increases conversions as Paypal is all I have ever used... It Would be interesting Case Study though..

  • With Google checkout closing down, and wallet only available to US citizens, PayPal is the biggest and most used payment processor online, so it's natural that having PayPal as a payment method on your site WILL increase your conversions.

But saying that, and speaking from a UK point of view, if i browse through my clients sales of handmade products they sell online, it's a 50/50 split between people paying via the credit card processor, and PayPal. Your best option is to offer at least 2 different forms of payment.

I think paypal is trusted so I can see why it would increase the conversion. Unless they are buying from a well known store, people do not feel secure putting their credit card info out there (and they shouldn't).

Google is the most popular payment processing company on the internet. And they also offer their buyers a small degree of protection. So YES I do believe that they will help you get a few more customers that you otherwise would have never had.
