I recently started using adfly traffic so I cant really comment on the conversions. However the cost-per-subscriber ratio is incredibly low. The squeeze page I'm using is in my signature.

Solo Swaps/Buys has a lower subscriber ratio per dollar, but higher conversion rate per dollar.

So yes, as some said, adfly is "junk" traffic. At least some of the time. But if I spend $10 for 100 leads, and 3 of the 100 buy at $7/product... I feel I won. But it all matters to what market you are appealing to and the cost points.

  Look for Reliable Sellers that take care of their subscribers and you will see that Solo ads are the BEST METHOD to drive traffic to your Squeeze Page ... (and if you think about it for a moment you will see it makes a LOT of sense - they are already on a list ... they trust that marketer ) ...
  
  Book a solo with one of the serious bloggers out there and then come back here and change/delete your post ...

On this type of lifestyle market outside IM i wouldn't do solo ads or swaps.

just a short rant..

health and fitness is a Huge market, not a niche

anything muscle is still a market
six-pack abs is a niche

fat-loss is also a market
butt and thigh-toning is a niche
cellulites is a micro-niche

-- and we haven't even started with the demographics - muscle targeted at 20yr men or 45yr women - 2 completely different profiles that need to be approached differently

what I am getting at is that when saying "targeted" mail list - the finer your aim the better the response

which is why PPC sounds better for this since it lets you fine-tune your exposure

if you want more speed (perhaps at the cost of targeting quality) offer a good freebie. the better the freebie, the broader the audience. if it is humongously good and goes viral you will get lots of optins but with lesser focus

agreed

what I meant was that it is impossible to target a market, or category with any relevance. the only time one would do that is when corporate branding (where your roi is calculated over years, decades or sometimes not at all)

branding is a lot about positioning whereas marketing towards a lifestyle niche is Very short-term and needs to offer immediate and measurable results.

I agree about the guest post being The Ticket.. but it is very difficult- because your biz/product (there is a product in return for the optins.. right?) is more important than your quality of writing when doing these kinds of GP's on authority sites, your article may be unbelievably good but if your biz/product is for example muscle supplements you will have very little response from the blogs you approach

Alexa has more experience on this but my view is that the success-rate of GP's has more to do with what you write and less about how you write it :p

Would there be potentially an indirect way of approach that could offer value to the viewers through this process? What methods would you suggest using to convert views from such an article into a list? or would you go for the direct buy?

I've always had huge success in going for the "direct buy" through targeting other people's lists.

Seriously, my marketing method actually builds initial relationships with my customers long before they subscribe or make a purchase.

It is possible to build your own niche list rather quickly by offering relevant content to authoritative publications with large readership audiences. This is accomplished through regular contributions of articles (or article syndication), which carries with it a perceived endorsement by the publisher. Such a subtlety is quite powerful, resulting in significant increases in conversion rates.

The ultimate in article syndication is to consider your reading audience as a virtual email list. An authoritatively personable writing style can build relationships with these readers just as if they were already subscribed to your own lists. And rather then getting them to "opt-in" with a freebie, they may often buy based upon the resulting credible recommendations, and opt-in for additional products.

In my sales funnel process, as email promotions progress through the autoresponder sequence of incrementally higher end products, additional marketing processes begin such as webinars, postal mail, telemarketing, and even face-to-face selling. Subscribers who don't buy within any given marketing cycle are culled from the list.

Building lists of buyers effectively prequalifies prospects for additional marketing, and weeds out the "tire kickers". Admittedly, some sales may be lost by not spending the time to "build relationships" with freebie seekers, but in this marketing model the "relationship" actually begins long before they buy.

Here are some methods that I have used so far:

- Facebook Fanpage: I used FB ads to get genuine likes. The ads will redirect to fangate (find out more about this in this forum by using the search function). Once a visitor likes my page, he/she will be redirected to my opt-in page. This benefits me in any way because even if they do not subscribe, I still have them as my audience in my fanpage.

- PPC ads using 7Search: far more cheaper than Adwords and far more tolerant to opt-in pages.

- Write a guest post in high authority health blogs. You need to contact the admin personally and submit your proposal. Very hard to be approved but this is worth to try because once you have your articles in front of their readers, a high quality of leads will flow into your page.

Anyway, health and fitness are not niches. They are industries. You need to go a little deeper so that you can better target your audience and leads.

For example; one niche of the health industry is weight loss. Under the weight loss niche, there are various sub-niches like paleo diet, mediternian diet, fat burners, fat binders, etc. And under these sub-niches there are sub-niches as well.

You also need to think like the potential buyers. About how they think to solve their problems. Once you get this, you can easily target them and even without having to build a large list, you can make a good income from these highly targeted leads.

I like your guest post idea. I'm interested in getting my feet wet in PR down the road. I've heard really good things about the results you can get from that. Even researching high hitting media buy sites and pressing articles toward them would be profitable though normally they request payment for these. (come to think of it though you could approach the authors with the ideas to do a co-produced article to benefit both parties)

Facebook to a lot of people is still an untapped domain due to its unorthodox means of marketing. What would you say is an example of a 'Facebook Fanpage Like' campaign that you found converted well for you?

I do like the giveaway approaches. Has anyone found success creating a giveaway campaign through facebook?

One method I've tested that I've found interesting is creating an opt in page with giveaway using aweber auto-responder into a tight demographic niche. I've taken quantcast research to identify my market based on leader websites. Aweber has facebook opt-in integration now which I've found very appealing though it seems like this method would require a fairly high budget for list acquisition. Any ideas?

I don't know about all industries but what I've seen work well when we use it as well as our competitors use it is to run campaigns on the Facebook fan page where we offer to give something away free (obviously targeted to that market) to people who like the page, like the post, and then share the post, this has created by far the most engagement out of almost anything else I've seen on Facebook. Similar though seemingly not as effective are campaigns where you offer to give something away when you reach a certain milestone of likes. And of course paying to promote posts also helps to build Facebook followers.

Think outside of the box.

Too many people stick with the make money online niche which is overcrowded and mostly saturated. The chances are a MMO lead will receive 10 or more marketing emails per day, whereas someone n the lose weight niche may only receive one or two per day.

You CAN make money in the Mmo niche, but in my opinion it's easier and more sustainable in other niches.

If we're focusing on cost effective methods vs. speed, I'd say to focus on doing webinars and webinar swaps with others in the industry that have a big list. This is a great way to build a big list quickly and get highly engaged subscribers and customers added to your own list.

The premise behind these webinars is to to them for free, offering a ton of value and have all the attendees to opt-in to attend the webinar via a software like oneclick. That way you can build your list simultaneously.

Some other methods I'd recommend are guest posting on high profile blogs and linking to a squeeze page at the end of it, not your own blog. Linking directly to a squeeze page will give you much higher conversion rates.

I'd also recommend is doing a lot of posting on forums and possible writing quality articles for highly syndicated newsletters/ezines in your niche.

This sounds like great advice. I especially like your advice on webinars. So that I'm clear you would approach a high traffic webinar entity and offer a co-production. Then within the webinar offer a secondary webinar or follow-up which would harvest the leads once registered?

I would say Facebook ads. You can really drill down to a specific set of people you want to market to.

You can go by age, gender, location, education, and so on. The great thing about Facebook ads, is the more specific you get, the cheaper it tends to be.

Also, you tend to get more opt ins, and sales since you are sending lazer targeted traffic to your site.

1. Advertise on Facebook - This strategy can get you traffic right away. You can even start with a small ad budget set to $5 per day.

2. Guest Blogging - Do what my friend Ti Roberts suggests. Guest blog on an authority blog and link back to your capture page at the end of your post.

3. Post in forums - Post in forums that are related to your niche. Answer people's questions and position yourself as an expert. Q&A sites are sort of like forums and are great places to generate traffic and build a list as well.

I have found that Co-registration leads for Health and Fitness work well if you have a good offer. I only use Opt-Intelligence (aka. Leadserve) for the leads and the folks I have gotten are very responsive. I am paying about .50 cents per lead right now.

highest targetted and cheapest is forums....

find one for your niche and start posting relevant stuff. rake in the people using your signature . the results will speak for itself

it brings the highest quality leads, is very cheap however its time consuming.....

Maybe in the IM niche when using these strategies but outside of IM it's different. Well at least for Solo Ads and Ad swaps. I have never used adfly.

No one wants junk lists.

But be careful about making judgements of traffic strategies (or any strategy for that matter) based upon peoples results from the IM niche/category.

In the IM niche, Solo Ads and Ad swaps are extremely popular, so everyone is buying ads, doing swaps, selling ad space on their lists.

And this probably wouldn't be so bad if most subscribers were only signed up to 1-2 lists. But most people who want to learn how to make money online are probably signed up to at least 5 and probably more.

And that can be a problem. Let's say that you are signed up to 5 lists. If each of those IMers do 3 Solo Ads per week, and 2 Ad swaps per week, that would be 25 different ads a week or 100 ads per month.

Do you think people are going to get burned out after awhile? Of course.

Now imagine people who are signed up for 10 or more lists, or signed up to lists where they send you an ad everyday or even twice a day.

So they are getting hammered from all sides by these ads, and of course that is going to effect the response rates.

But you know what?

This isn't happening in other niches. At least not to this extent, and not in this way.

And a part of the proof of this is when you go searching for Solo Ad providers in other niches they are alot harder to find. Why? because there is less people using this strategy.

Which is actually great for people who aren't in the IM niche.

This means you can take what others have learned works in the IM niche and apply it where others haven't seen it, or aren't aware of it and get phenominal results cause those customers aren't jaded and turned off to those strategies.

My Point?

Be careful about making judgements on different IM strategies, based upon people who's only experience is applying them in one niche.

Word.

As much as I hate saying general, It's all about testing.

And, avoiding many risks and money loss by learning from someone who has already had success in the subject.

And for the dude or dudette who said that solo ads and ad swaps are junk traffic?

WATCH where you point that thing!!

Sure having buyers and leads that are not on 20000 different lists would be better.

But solo ad leads have their own desires, and trust me there ARE good leads.

You just need a funnel, a nice one.

One that converts, lets you break even and even profit and one that has been through LOTS AND LOTS of testing.

Test test test like a maniac and the reason why you can't compare solo ads to adf.ly is because the targeting is totally different.

Solo ads are much more targeted and personal than adf.ly

PLUS, you need to be extremely general when advertising on sites like adf.ly.

"Discover how my fish makes $3103.31 a month working from home!"

You can't takeover a sub-niche and dominate it that way.

The targeting in adf.ly is very bad.

You can target geo, but that's it.

You can't target interests, email them, and I'm not sure you can target by age..

in a nutshell -

Adf.ly sucks, BUT FOR A REASON.

Now imagine people who are signed up for 10 or more lists, or signed up to lists where they send you an ad everyday or even twice a day.

So they are getting hammered from all sides by these ads, and of course that is going to effect the response rates.

But you know what?

This isn't happening in other niches. At least not to this extent, and not in this way.

And a part of the proof of this is when you go searching for Solo Ad providers in other niches they are alot harder to find. Why? because there is less people using this strategy.

Which is actually great for people who aren't in the IM niche.

This means you can take what others have learned works in the IM niche and apply it where others haven't seen it, or aren't aware of it and get phenominal results cause those customers aren't jaded and turned off to those strategies.

My Point?

Be careful about making judgements on different IM strategies, based upon people who's only experience is applying them in one niche.

And for the dude or dudette who said that solo ads and ad swaps are junk traffic?

WATCH where you point that thing!!

Sure having buyers and leads that are not on 20000 different lists would be better.

But solo ad leads have their own desires, and trust me there ARE good leads.

You just need a funnel, a nice one.

One that converts, lets you break even and even profit and one that has been through LOTS AND LOTS of testing.

Test test test like a maniac and the reason why you can't compare solo ads to adf.ly is because the targeting is totally different.

Solo ads are much more targeted and personal than adf.ly
Adf.ly sucks, BUT FOR A REASON.

Solo ads, DON'T.

Solo ads = subscribers that other people don't want because they don't open emails or buy anything.

The fact that anyone would want to build their list with these type of junk subscribers is beyond me.

I bet you think squeeze pages are the best way to build a list too, right?

-Make some YouTube tutorials then pitch to your squeeze page at the end of them.
-Run some Facebook ads to your page
-Email other weight loss websites with email lists for a mailing kinda like a solo ad.

I always start out with the old school long term epic content blogging, vlogging, social syndication etc.

Then my most favourite and fastest way to scale is solo ads and facebook ppc.

I always reinvest back to my business with solo ads from my earnings. About. 70-80%.
