New to Internet Marketing world, and was wondering ...

Hey guys.

As you can tell, I'm quite new to this whole Internet Marketing world. I have been reading about a couple of things, and learned some basics about keyword research, SEO to rank for those keywords, product marketing, etc ..

However, I have a question. Before I ask this question, please note that I am very willing to put in time and effort to learn and learn and learn, do not doubt that for one second. Now, my question is, given the fact that I'm a university student who will graduate next year (I'm studying accounting btw), and given the busy schedule I will have when I start my first job, is it feasible to enter into the IM world looking for much?

To make myself clearer, I am very willing to learn and put in time and effort, but only as one 24 hour day and physical body allows. What let me down was when I read that I would have to put in 8 hours a day of IM if I want to make anything worth it out of it. How true is that? Again, please note that I love to learn and do and achieve, but I am also realistic and want to know how realistic this journey would actually be for someone who has a job other than IM.

Thank you very much for your time, I appreciate it.

To be honest if your not prepared to put 100% into IM then don't. It's that hard but very rewarding once your get going. Job and IM don't work unless you are using your job as a funding route to get started.

Don't let that put you off but there is a "tough" bit to get going in IM.

It depends. Some people start out "working" 16 hour days, others are able to put in one hour a day and grow their business. It depends on how disciplined you can be.

I will tell you this. If you pick a strategy and can devote a solid hour of focus to it a day, and work on leverageable activities like list building, you'll get farther quicker.

As for what to expect, you get what you expect, so expect a lot. The mindset you need for marketing is 100% different than the mindset you need to be accountant.

Accountants are typically historians. They crunch numbers about what happened in the past. To be marketer you got to focus on how can I best invest my resources today.

IM is not something that you can see results in 24hrs, it takes alot of time and sometimes needs investment.

Only choose IM if you really know what your getting into.

Thank you for all your fast replies.

I do understand the fact that IM is a difficult world to get into and most people who make a living off of it are devoted to it full time.

I know that with the time I am able to invest in this world per day, I may not achieve the success of full timers with their income figures, but that's just realistic because they are able to put in more time to it than me and that's fine with me.

To be honest this is a thing I like, am interested in, it makes me feel good when I learn about its ins and outs, and would not mind looking to it as a side income stream in my life.

I am ready to read and learn, ready to invest, whatever it takes, the only issue is the time available to me. (Jeez why wasn't the day 48 hours instead of 24!)

Let's say with all my schedule I'm able to put in a couple of hours each day for IM related stuff, would that yield any result (remember, I consider it to be a side income for me) or should I not bother? I'm asking this question here because I know the quality of this forum and I trust in the experience of its members.

Like most beginners, you jumped into the middle of things. Forget Keyword Research and SEO. Neither of which will get you far without spending more time and money then they are worth.

What let me down was when I read that I would have to put in 8 hours a day of IM if I want to make anything worth it out of it. How true is that?
It's garbage. It's not about how much time you put into it. It's about focusing on what works.

Sounds like another person focusing on Keywords and SEO instead of focusing on their customers and their problems.

I've seen results in less than 10 hours with multiple projects. Again, it's about focusing on your customers problems. The faster you can solve them, the faster you will make money.

When I first started in IM, I also went down the path of
          keywords, SEO etc..

In hindsight if I was starting out, now knowing what I do,
I would start learning about email marketing, squeeze pages
          and building a list..

This is because building a quality list is, building a real business
with an asset that you own..

The thing with SEO and relying on google is when there
is an algorithm change this can have a drastic impact on your
          traffic and therefore your income..

I'm not saying you can't do it, I'm just saying that it is not the
          best business model for me..

Spend time here in this forum ask questions, learn..

There are many ways to make an income online, take your time and
find one way that resonates with you..

          Then focus on it..

The reason why it takes people so long to get anything going is because there's so many options. It's easy to get distracted from what works and from your goals.

Most marketers add to this confusion, they don't relieve you of it.

Plus, then you have to wrap your head around the mechanics. So here it is. All marketing is driving targeted traffic to an offer and then selling product. That's it.

The problem is really understanding the customer you're appealing to and how to talk to them in their language and get their interest and attention. That's the biggest hurdle.

Then the mindset stuff which screws everyone up (and even people on the Warrior Forum participate in this type of thinking) which is freaking out about selling stuff.

So if you can devote an hour a day this is what I would do.

Every day spend an hour deciding what market you're going to enter until you figure it out. Essentially pick a market that buys information.

    "This is an experiment."

That's the mentality you need to succeed.

Then once you've decided, now you put up a squeeze page that captures their email address. You focus on what a good squeeze page looks like and you model it.

A good headline and call to action for example.

Also you offer an item in exchange for their email that the market you picked might be interested in having so they will gladly sign up.

Now you're pretty close to money.

Next you spend your one hour a day focused on driving traffic to that page.

There are a lot of ways. Which is why it's important to get started now.

In the meantime, your job is to 1) try to get the highest opt-in rate possible, 2) write emails to the list of people you are building, 3) make them offers.

This is what you will learn from buying 10,000 e-books.

Is it easier said than done? Yes of course because it involves work. So most of us go off in search of the easy-button. And in our search we run right back into what works.

    The cycle is typically this:

    1) Total newbie, discovers 2) how to make money online, but 3) wants an easier, simpler, quicker way, so 4) keeps looking for magic bullet, and 5) keeps running into the same info.

    Always follow this plan:

Build a website --> Drive traffic --> Build an Email list --> Form a relationship with your list (provide them with great info, interact with them with videos etc...) --> Sell to your list.

It would be best if you sent your list 2 great emails before pitching anything to them, also see if your list still does great when you email them everyday, but try and split test between the 2 if your list performs better when you email them everyday or every other day.

If this is the route you would truly like to go, then don't let anyone tell you that it would be a waste of your time. Only you can decide if it will be a waste of your time. Only you can determine what your time is worth.

Also, it's not necessarily about how much time you put into it, it's about quality and not only the quality of time you put into it, but the quality of that which you wish to offer and the quality of what methods you will utilize. There are many methods touted that really will cause you to waste your time and money.

You really haven't been specific on what you would like to do and Internet Marketing is a broad umbrella that many things fit under. It will be difficult to get more specific answers without the specifics of what exactly you intend to do.

That's just silly. You can't put one business model above all others, especially with no actual information on how to achieve success.

        1) Build a website... Does he even know how? Businesses make money every day without websites.
        2) Drive Traffic... From where? I thought Traffic was what people became when they drove.
        3) Build an Email List... Great advice, but again you haven't given any details on how or why. A good suggestion though.
        4) Form a Relationship with List... I like that you added some detail to this one. My question is, why wouldn't you start building your relationship as soon as they landed on your 'website'...

The truth is, there are millions of business models out there, and more appear every day. All of them begin with a problem. Everyone has problems, everyone wants their problems to go away. People will pay to have their problems solved.

        Mental problems, pay a psychiatrist.
        Health problems, pay a doctor.
        Boredom problems, pay for television.

The list goes on and on forever. We all don't have the same experiences in life as each other. We can't read each others minds and just know how to solve problems that people face every day. In order to spread the solution, we need to explain it, talk about it, blog about it, get it out there. Getting it out there is your Marketing!

Getting it out there doesn't require a website. It requires one person connecting with another. This could be face to face, through videos, presentations, articles, reports, books, or any other way that we communicate.

Isn't that why we are all here on the Warrior Forum? We find a problem that others have faced, and we ask them for a reasonable solution. It's then up to us to decipher the information and come to our own conclusions.

What I understand from your replies so far is that building confidence between me and my (lets say readers) is a vital first step, which is then followed by gathering email lists and later on promoting affiliate sales/products when a strong relationship is formed. Seems good, and I will most certainly read more upon this and learn as I go. However, how do you guys suggest I build traffic that is worth it without SEO and all that comes with it that reaps the same benefits?

Finding a mentor seems like something I could look into. Any advice about where I could find a reliable mentor?
