Nothing. Pick another domain name - very few people get their first choice.

The only other alternative would be contacting the current owner of the domain to see if they'd be interested in selling it for a few hundred dollars or however much it's worth. But don't expect to just get it for $10 like you would for new domains.

If you really want it that much, you can put it on back-order through a registrar, which means that if the current registrant fails to renew it, in future, you might be able to. For a price.

You can also do a "who-is search" and possibly find out who owns it, and there'll certainly be an email address available through which you can try to contact the owner. If you express a lot of interest in buying the domain-name from them, it will probably be expensive. Especially if they're actually using it. (Sounds like they're re-directing it to another site? Or maybe it's just "parked" and showing some ads? In which case it might be for sale).

Or, as wisely observed above, you can choose another name instead.

You might try looking into the domain name with dashes between the words, or adding "blog" or "site" etc to the keywords you're wanting. Get creative.. there are dozens of ways to combine your keywords with other words.. many that nobody has ever thought of. I find them all the time for niches I'm interested in. One great way to get ideas is to go to a site like ubersuggest.com or another keyword research site. Type in the keywords you are wanting to use in your domain and hit search and you'll get tons of suggestions that you can check out.

Let me tell you from personal experience... domain names are NOT that important.

Hell, I sold over $3 million dollars worth of products with the crappiest domain name ever (my own personal name)

When you think about it... most of your prospects will find you from links, banners, ads, and other traffic methods.

Sure, if your domain name really sticks out, say, on Google organic results, it MAY help.

but thinking that a choice of domain name is really that important, it isn't.

Sure, if you can grab a domain that's short, memorable, has a benefit, etc.... that's great.

if not, just grab another. you've literally got NO end to domain name choices... but again, it's not that important.

Few few times have I clicked on a link/ad/banner, etc.... and even remember what the domain name was.

If you are that dead set on having that particular domain name, go to whois.com type in the domain name you want, get the registrants info and shoot him or her an email asking if they would be willing to sell it. If they say no, start reading at post #2.

You could make them an offer, or otherwise seek a different name, unfortunately.

This scenario happened to me before and I can relate to what your are feeling right now. With regards to forcing the issue to acquire the domain name that you want but someone else's owns it, sad to say there is nothing you could do. I suggest you create another name for your site that is somewhat or sounds like the existing site, in this way you will not be to far from the name you wanted your site to have.

Hope this idea of mine helps you!!!!!

    2 options:
    1. Attempt to purchase the domain
    2. Think of another domain name
