Help with MS Word PLEASEEEEEEE

I have what should be a simple problem but it's not turning out that way.

I have an ebook I was sent in a word doc format and the layout is 2 pages side by side all the way through.

I know what you normally do to change it (i.e. click the various icons on the bottom left) but nothing works.

I tried MS help and nothing made sense there either.

Is there a MS guru here that may know the trick?:confused::confused:

  • Laurencewins,

While performing this action is different in differnet versions of word, I’ll take a stab at it. If you are using the 2003 version, try tools -> options. On the general tab in the dialogue box that appears, uncheck open in reading layout.

If you are using a more recent version, click view on the ribbon and on the far left there are choices for views.

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

I've sometimes had problems converting. Try saving it as a new document, with a .docx format and then re-open and convert to PDF.

I tried ADRD's suggestion and a few others. ADRD...I can't convert to PDF as I need to edit the doc anyway. I did try your idea Shawn. I am using 2003 but that also did not work.

Then I thought I would try and copy/paste into Open Office and then back to Word.

Would you believe....that actually did it?!!!

I am amazed but thank you both for responding so promptly. I can now sleep better knowing I can handle that job tomorrow. 200 pages worth too.

you should copy the text to notepad to remove all the unnecessary format, then copy the text again from the notepad and paste it to freshly open ms word file

If I lose all the formatting it would take me forever to put it all back. That is no good for me. I need to copy the formatting as well. Thanks anyway. I have it under control now.
