You can install this plugin to have more control of the fonts:
WordPress › TinyMCE Advanced « WordPress Plugins

Or if you know html, you can click on TEXT tab, and just add html inline-css to control any font of any text.

Keep in mind, Wordpress is bare bones out of the box. You customize it from there and it is unreal cusomizable even down to tiny details, like font size.

If you think of Wordpress as a framework that you can tailor to practically anything you want it to be without having to learn code.

There are millions of plugins both free and paid for any application you can think of.
There are themes so you can make your site look and feel as you like.

There are membership themes for creating membership sites

There are eCommerce plugins

The list goes on. Wordpress is fantastic for any kind of site be it a blog, a sales page a squeeze page or a membership site.

The learning curve is quite small and the results can be fantastic. There are also millions of free wordpress tutorials out there.

Learn wordpress and you will never look back

  when I said the learning curve is quite small, compared to setting up a site using HTML even with an editor like Kompzer it is 10 times easier.
  
  If you can get to a cpanel click fantastico then you have a wordpress site installed with a default theme.
  
  Add a page/post and start typing and you have the beginnings of a site. Install a different theme and away you go. What other free system offers that?
  
  Yes there is stuff to learn but noting worthwhile doing comes without having to put some kind of effort in.

  Nobody said one need XHTML/CSS/PHP for using WordPress. But people don't want to use it... they want to tweak, modify, customize etc.

  "resizing text"... whatever that means for the poster.
  
  Now, the basic (really, more basic than 101) wisdom about a CMS is that the user shouldn't f... err, mess around with font size and style. Most people have no idea about the basic rules and requirements of typography, so why do they need to mess with it? That's why they use a CMS because they lack the coding/web developing/designing knowledge. In a well done CMS and in a well done presentation layout (a.k.a. theme) everything is composed properly - so the user should just use it. And be happy

As suggested above. Learn inline CSS (for text formatting) and a bit of HTML and you can do just about anything with text and images. Also check out the Google Web Fonts and install a WordPress plugin to support them - some beautiful fonts.

I know HTML/CSS/PHP/MYSQL you can even throw in socket programming with java there just to be sure.

You can't even just edit the HTML in the custom text editor.

Wordpress gets hate from me!!!!!!!!!!

buts that the point about wordpress you don't need to know any of that stuff to get a site up and running and make it look half decent by installing a theme and setting up by clicking and typing and then use whatever plugins you want to make it do what you want

Then you should have absolutely no problem building a Wordpress theme from scratch to suit your needs.

Wordpress is awesome when it's set up right and doing exactly what you want.

I own a business which I created myself without ever needing to know this stuff. I employ people who "know basic HTML/CSS", because people who "know basic HTML/CSS" are working for people who don't need to.

Unless you're defining "real webmaster" as "someone who knows basic HTML/CSS", in which case clearly what you're saying is unarguably true, but also doesn't signify anything much because we can all define an expression to mean what we want it to mean, to justify our opinion!

The downside with Wordpress for me are the clueless morons who dominate their official 'help forums'. If you've got an issue they'll happily waste hours of your day with incorrect information. Ismi on there is the biggest time wasting pr*ck of them all.

Yes, I hear you there. :p

Well, on my websites I can resize text as easily as I can do it in Word, or in the Warrior Forum. However, I've seen a lot of people posting questions here, over the years, because they have difficulty resizing text in WordPress. There's a real issue there, and nobody should deny it. And I think that's actually quite typical of WordPress. So it makes me laugh a little when people say that WordPress has such a quick and easy learning curve, because that so obviously isn't true, for quite a few people.

(I do accept that it's a whole lot easier than using HTML-5, and/or Kompozer, and some other things, though.)

.Instead of making life difficult for yourself why not try using a theme where the font size and many other customizations can be carried out via the theme admin panel.

I use Wordpress on a lot of sites but I decided against it for the new site that I have just started to build. Wordpress is great if all you want to do is get a simple site up and running fast but as soon as you want to do something different with it then it's a completely new ball game.

I suppose that my biggest gripe is not being able to insert php scripts into posts. Yes there are plugins that try to fix the problem but they are far from ideal and at best only a poor workaround to the problem. Add to that the tendency for WP to load slowly and the fact that a WP site is a hacker magnet due to its widespread use and complexity.

I hold my breath each time I install an update. I can't afford not to update for fear of leaving myself open to a security breach but any new version could break something on the site and potentially render it useless.

So my new site is going to be html/php/css with the minimum of MySql thrown in and it's going to be 100% under my control.

I don't understand what you are tying to do. You can resize/change the font in the css stylesheet. Style.css. The font is controlled in the first block. And you can edit html in the text editor... At least to a certain extent. Are you just trying to rile people up? Something tells me I just identified your true intent.
