Get Response Complaint Rate

Will GR shut you down if your complaint rate gets too high? Anyone know if they have an acceptable level?

I know they will, don't know the levels. I have had maybe a half dozen complaints in a year and I use only single opt ins. They can see who complained and if they signed up on an optin. I wouldn't worry about it unless your spamming.

Why you use only single opt ins and not double?

I have did extensive testing over the last year or so.
I have found that single opt ins I don't have those so many that don't hit that confirmation link.
Also I am getting to where I am just asking for an email and thats it, seems my percentages are going up too.
Single optin is not for everyone, there are some things you can not do by using single optin, but for me it's the way to go.

I let my students know they should do double but also let them know I do single.

Of course they would, eventually. Every spam report you create for them harms their relationship with mailers and their ability to get every user's mail into inboxes instead of spam folders. Managing that reputation is literally the most important aspect of their business; if they screw it up, they have no business -- nobody will pay someone to send mail if that someone can't get the mail to the recipients.

The normal acceptable threshold is up to 0.1% (i.e. one
      complaint for every thousand subscribers).

However, each autoresponder company has their own figure
and circumstances that they consider unacceptable for them
where they'll terminate your account. Some give warnings,
      and some don't.

Contact the support desk of GetResponse and see if they'll
give you more specific guidelines on their specific policy.

Obviously, you should aim to keep your spam complaint rate
low so follow good e-mail practices to minimize these issues.

Generally if the source of the traffic is good and you sent relevant content to them, you will be able to greatly reduce the possibility of people clicking on the spam link. I personally feel that as long you are trying to provide value to them, the complaint rate will be low.

Allowing people to 'complain' when an email has a valid 'unsubscribe' link is a crime in its own right.

Best answer I've seen so far. I've had people sign up for free content and complain when I send out free, helpful content. You sure can't please everyone...especially freeloaders.

Exactly. They're so lazy or corrupt they'd rather hit the 'complain' button

I think you have a very good point here. Most people still don't have a clue about how the Web really works, so of course there will be outrageous numbers of false positives with things like this. I can understand the big ISPs needing to respond in some way to spam, but the report-as-spam buttons were a bad idea from day one. Heck, I've even hit the button by mistake, just because it was placed about 3 pixels away from the "mark as priority" button.

The quick answer is yes - just make sure you're not spamming. Put out good quality stuff and respect your list and you'll be fine.
