The blog? The list? The blog and the list? How do you piece out your content?

Okay, yeah, I'm still feeling the whole IM marketing concept out. Thanks again, everyone, for your patience.

I'm too wordy for the traffic-to-squeeze page listbuilding model, so I'm planning on starting a blog around my niche and building my list from there (free report as a taster, with affiliate products and potentially my own products to follow, once I'm confident I know what I'm talking about). I'm still in research mode, but once I'm through with that I'm prepared to sign up for an Aweber account and jump right in.

But this model presents me with an issue I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around.

Does the bulk of your value go to your list or your blog? Is it kosher to sometimes share (rewritten) content between them?

If I write an article on, say, guppy breeding techniques for my list of passionate guppy enthusiasts, that's good value for them, but there are obviously reasons I'd want that information (in some form or another) on my site as well.

I know it's probably different on a niche-by-niche basis, but what do you guys (and gals) do?

    Do both.

I think Frank Kern calls it the 'Triangle of Trust'.

Post valuable info or videos on your blog and then send your list over to those blog posts. Those posts can also be reviews or recommendations about products. Since you are sending people over to your blog they are more likely to consume the message because it appears newsworthy rather than promotional. We look at blogs as places to get news and information, not places to be promoted to. So it works in your favor.

That makes a lot of sense.

And that's a good point, that blog posts tend to appear educational, rather than promotional. Something to use to one's advantage...

A lot of bloggers send their list to a blog posts or reviews posts. It is a nice way to get your old posts alive again
        Good luck!

For me, (and I hope I don't complicate things) I have two separate blogs besides my list.

I use one blog/site for people who are still prospects, and everything on that blog is geared toward getting them to sign up for my email list.

My second blog/site is for the people who are already on my email list and now I am trying to get them to buy something.

With this second blog I do share content between the two. For example I might email them about a blog post I done, but in the actual email I might only have 1-2 paragraphs as teasers, and then if they want to read the rest of the post I will have a link to my blog.

Or I will just email them a link for a video I created and posted on my blog.

I usually find that having a blog helps with converting people and getting them to buy.

it also allows for more interactivity, as I can do polls and surveys.

Or I can ask and answer questions.

So yeah, I do use my blogs and list in combination with one another to help convert people to sales.

That's an interesting concept. For your two-blog setup, is the "insiders" blog -- I assume that's the sort of thing you mean -- password protected? Is accessing the second blog part of the incentive for people to sign up?
