Do you use an ad blocker?

In another discussion elsewhere, someone basically said "how dare you(!)" discuss an ad blocker in a marketing forum. But don't we have to deal with the fact that there will be some savvy consumers that block ads? In some ways I would think massively distributed ads like Adwords and Adsense would be the easiest to block while ads served by individuals like us on private platforms may get past blockers.

I personally use Ad Block Plus and have a warm feeling knowing that I am less inundated with advertising. I have watched sites like Google change over the years, and so often now there are search results pages that are 70+% ads.

This is NOT why chose to use Google in the first place, and if I do use Google, it will mostly be with my Ad Block turned on or else I'll use a search engine like DuckDuckGo that doesn't serve so many ads (just one at the top). I prefer DuckDuckGo now to google. I know I am in the minority now, but I think I often can get a faster result to my query than someone using an ad littered Google search.

I don't. It may have even been my comment you saw in the other post.

I'm a marketer. Not just cause it pays bills, but because I enjoy it.

I watch the Superbowl every year for the ads, and sometimes I see some good football in between.

I don't block ads, cause I enjoy seeing what others are doing to market their products and build their brand.

      Yea victor,

I've come to share the same sentiment in terms of blocking ads, mainly due to the fact that it can be detrimental to the favorite website you like to go to.
The only time I'll really block an ad is during a vlog video that I may be watching.

Yes, but you can white list your favorite sites meaning you are in the driver's seat. I have done this already in a few cases.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

You know how I fix the Adblock epidemic.
Take down all the ads on your blog
    Put up pictures instead
Put a link in those pictures.
A viable alternative for the time being.

It's not just a handful of people, just ad block plus for firefox alone has 14,936,360 users as of this posting. That's a TON of people.

I have it installed but only use it to test my own stuff. Like Victor, I like to see ads so I can see what other people are doing.

Text links are still good. I've also found if you want to show a banner you can make it odd dimensions and most of the time it will slip through....but this only works if you make your own banners and if they are not served using an ad server.
