Establishing a professional online identity in internet marketing

Please share some ways in which you can establish a professional online identity to help your customers trust you more. One idea might be to use a real person username on forums and blogs. Please suggest others.

    Think about branding in the real world. How do companies do that successfully?

    It's all about being seen so people get familiar with you and when people know and like you, they start to trust you.

    So use your name. That's like your business name. Use an image of yourself. That's like your logo. Use them consistently across all platforms such as forums, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc. That way people will get to recognize you and become familiar with you. Obviously you also need to be doing a lot of interaction otherwise people will never get to see you. Again, it's all about being visible.

    Focus on branding... Google is increasingly trying to push branding as a key metric for success online. Think about the products and services you trust; they are all usually "branded".

    If McDonald's was "store for cut price hamburgers, fries, and drink" would you be more or less likely to eat there? I think you should understand where I'm coming from now!

    Branding yourself (or creating a conventional brand) is the future. One of my staff members wrote a blog post on the Affilorama blog recently, which examines the evidence for branding being crucial post-Penguin 2.0

    Brand yourself by:
    • Using a memorable domain name
    • Using all available social media platforms
    • Getting a good logo designed
