Is it ok to write 50 blog posts in order to see if blogging works or not for me?

As several people explained to you in this very similar thread which you started off very recently to ask a closely related question, publishing content just on your own site is not a traffic-generation strategy.

All it can ever get you is a little bit of eventual SEO traffic "just by being there" (and in your niche, even that isn't a trivial matter). That isn't a business.

It depends what else you do, as explained in your earlier thread.

But you're right that if/when just posting content 50 times on your own blog, at the rate of three times per day, doesn't produce traffic, then doing a further 50 similar posts also probably won't: nobody will argue with you about that one!

Blogging is not, in itself, usually a way to generate significant traffic.

Why not try it this way:

Write one blog post, then tweet it, etc.
Use interlinking and intralinking, "see related posts," etc.

And then, go and interact with other bloggers in your niche. Comment on their posts, send them little messages, ask questions, retweet their posts, and make connections.

Blogging isn't archiving, it is interacting.

I'm going to agree with parkerarrow here... forget putting 3 blog posts per day on your blog... I would say write one and then publish the other 2 to high rank article directories like ezines and goarticles... link those articles to your original blog posts with your keywords as anchor text, then visit fiverr and get someone to do a link pyramid to your original post and atleast 100 social bookmarks to each...(example: 100 social bookmarks to original blog post, then 100 bookmarks to ezine article, then 100 bookmarks to goarticles article, you could even get a link pyramid to the actual articles pages if you want) That's how I would SEO my articles if I was into the SEO route... If that doesn't get you good rankings then you can also look into building your own private blog network using drippable... which could take your site to the first page for some high competition keywords... Before you implement any of this, I would suggest you be sure to do proper keyword research and pick a proper domain name that is keyword enriched, and also make sure all on page seo is in goodstandings.... just my 2 cents... wish you the best...

You'd give an article directory the initial indexation-rights to unique content?! Surely not? It's not something an article marketer would do, for all the reasons explained throughout this thread.

Building backlinks to an article directory is - to put it very mildy indeed - a "distinctly sub-optimal strategy".

Whose business are you trying to build up, here - yours or theirs?!

First, for all the reasons explained here, no article marketer would ever want to get potential customer traffic coming to her/his own site via an article directory.

Secondly, this just isn't how article directories work: this sort of idea, which was misguided and inappropriate even before the first of the Panda updates a few years ago, is horribly out of date, for 2013.

As everyone else said, it's (sadly) not enough to write it. Even if it is the best thing ever written you have to market what your write. Basically, the blog is your product, but now you have to sell it.

I blog as a way of conversion not for traffic, I use free and paid traffic strategies to send all of my traffic to a page where I can capture an email address. Then I do a blog post everyday providing value and a call to action to generate a sale.

I do get a lot of seo traffic doing that, but that's without any backlinks, I optimize most posts for keywords but it's not a main focus. I honestly don't even know how I get so much SEO traffic

In short, it is my opinion that 5 really good, well written, and unique articles that offer will value to your visitors is worth infinitely more than 50 or even 500 mediocre or low quality articles. I am not saying that just because you are writing at a large volume that you will be automatically be producing low quality, but I believe that the law of diminishing returns would suggest this.

On top of this, and as was mentioned above, creating an avenue to promote your work via social media, networking with like minded individuals, conducting outreach, and link building is just as important as producing the content in the first place.

Of course this all depends on your intents for your blog- if you intend to "churn and burn" ie: build a site of keyword heavy articles, blast it with low quality links, and sell ads/links on it until the algorithms catch up and drop your rankings, then it just really has to be readable. In most cases a minimum of 10 pages is enough to start seeing some rankings if you link build it the right way, but you will also want to see how many pages your competitor sites that are ranking for your same KWs have for a point of reference.

If this is your personal or main blog/website- focus on writing 5-10 1,000 word plus article/posts that give real value and spend the rest of the time guest blogging (not submitting to article directories) and engaging others via social media. Good luck!!

  I'm going to pile on here. Just writing 50, 100 or 1,000 posts isn't going to tell you if what you are doing is working. You have to figure out if you are actually connecting with people.
  
  Are they subscribing to your feed and/or newsletter?
  
  Are they interacting in the comments?
  
  Are they sharing your content? Republishing it (assuming you allow some or all of your content to be republished)?
  
  Are they buying your stuff?
  
  At three posts per day, you're talking about judging success or failure in approximately a month. That's way too soon to tell if a blog is getting any traction.
  
  As for that tripe about putting your original content on "high traffic article directories", let me ask you...
  
  Given the number of scraper sites and autoblogs, how much of a directory's traffic is actual humans looking for real info, and how much of it is bots looking for stuff to scrape?
  
  Do the directories distinguish between human and bot visitors, or do they point at their "high traffic" because it makes them feel good and look important?
  
  Even on the top directory, EzineArticles.com, that traffic is spread among millions of individual pages. When someone does manage to find your article via search, they get hit with a couple of dozen alternatives to reading your content and clicking the link or two you can put in your resource box.
  
  There is only one reason to post your stuff on a general directory, and that's to help build your network of other sites/blogs/publications that like your stuff well enough to use it.

If you had of asked me this question about 3 months ago, I would've most likely responded with "create great content, publish often" etc etc...

However my data is telling me otherwise.

Publishing to your blog a lot means little if you don't have an audience. It's a catch 22 situation - you need content in order to build an audience.

Recently, I've been sitting in on a few webinars and speaking to highly established marketers in certain fields - and a common theme that I keep hearing is "reach". What sort of coverage is your content going to have? How far is your reach? If you're publishing often to a list of 20 people, then chances are you'll be shouting into an empty room (Quote Sean Kaye)

Instead of blasting entries into your blog and hoping the traffic arrives, publish less frequently, and spend more time FINDING OUT WHERE YOUR AUDIENCE ALREADY IS .....and GET YOUR STUFF IN FRONT OF THEM.

The time-consuming part of "using content to get traffic" ought to be the "finding out where your audience already is and getting your stuff in front of them". That's really the income-determining part, and it's what article marketing comprises.

  I keep hearing this, from writers, anyway. As soon as they quit trying to force the issue - post x times per day, using y keywords per post, along with an image and a video, etc. - the quality of their writing and the reaction to it improves dramatically.
  
  If you hate what you do, or are just burned out by trying to keep up a pace you never should have tried to keep anyway, it shows in your output. People often can't really say why they're turned off, they just know something didn't click for them.

Please do the following:

OK go after a niche that is very narrow. That way you can dominate it.
Focus all your posts on keywords that are related to your topic.
Add interesting images. That way people will click to see more.
Add videos related to your topic - from you tube and other services. 1 per post.
Add links to authority sites. Google will rank you higher.

Most important is to gain exposure. Post in social media to increase awareness.

It's a myth (for the most part) that if you just keep posting content that people will come to your site. You have to have a way to get that traffic or some sort of incentive for people to show up in the first place and then share with others. The quality of your content is MUCH more important than the quantity.

There are a lot of other things you have to do right. For example your posts have to be interesting and unique. For faster results you might want to do some extra promotion because in the beginning your traffic stats are going to be a little depressing(just being honest). 50 posts can be tedious so, make sure you choose a niche you're interested in so you don't lose interest before your 50th post. Also, look at what other successful bloggers are doing and apply it to your blog and business.

I want to riff on this for a moment because the IM/SEO world has a different definition for the word "unique" than the rest of the world. Many times, they define unique as passing some mechanical comparison test such as Copyscape. When creating a topic you should find a keyword first that can drive traffic to your site then every paragraph there should be a keyword on it.

My coach told me that she wanted me to blog everyday for at least the first 2 months, but, that 3 months would be better. You have to do forum marketing and have original content on your blog.

Man I hope that if you don't see results after 50 that you don't stop.

Because post #51 could be the one that you reach a breakthrough.

It may take you 100 posts.

Blogging works now and always has. And it seems it always will.

You just need to figure out which kind of blogging will work for you.

Hi buddy, I would really suggest you do not exhaust yourself in too much blogs being written. You should find the perfect niche of your interest and share something about it that most people would probably experience or are experiencing. Content is always key not the number of blog post you make .

Building a blog and posting on it everyday can be a good way to begin building relationships with your readers. However, you have to find a way to get readers to your blog.

Just because you are writing great content, does not mean that people will find you. You should try posting less and working on more promotional techniques to make sure people are finding what you write about.

Once they find you, then you can capture the emails and then begin building relationships with your subscribers.

You want to check keywords for the posts you are writing.
There is no point in aimlessly writing away hoping the traffic will come because it may not.

Good question!

If your blog isn't performing in terms of traffic and visitors after 50 posts ... then there might be several problem with your SEO ...
1. You are targeting the WRONG keywords (people aren't searching for them)
2. You are targeting HIGHLY COMPETITIVE keywords (impossible for your to rank)
3. You aren't targeting LONG-TAIL keywords (low competition but high search volume)
4. You aren't properly MARKETING your site
5. You aren't creating content around HOT topics (as seen by HIGHER bounce rate) on your site
So, my suggestion would be to revise your SEO strategy by looking at above 5 points and see where you're making mistakes. If you've found one, then correct it, and then create content around it ...

If you want to create content on HOT topics, why don't you use this section to find HIGHLY viewed topics and create "epic" articles around it, promote it in several sources (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Ezinearticles, ArticleBase, Forums, Blogs) etc and see if your website visitors is increasing ..

writing another 50 posts more without getting any positive results seem to me like a big waste of time. i suggest you try the invaluable suggestions given by the others before you spend another second writing another blog post. also, make sure that you syndicate your first 50 posts in every possible way, to yield the favorable results you are looking for. good luck!

Hi zourkas,

If you write 50 posts and get no traffic, it only means that something within your strategy isn't working. The problem probably isn't with the number of posts you have, but several other factors besides that.

As mentioned by the other posters, generating constant content is only part of what will work. You first have to have good content, and then loads of exposure to your target audience. Besides, coming up with 3 posts a day seems like quite a lot; I'm curious to know if every one of those posts provide original or positive value to your viewers. It's always better to focus on quality and content, rather than sheer quantity.

Getting good content may be important to win people over and convince them to opt-in, but first you need to get your blog out there so that people will know about it. If no one knows about your site, you can only expect them to discover your site by chance.

For me i recommend that you Try to read Other people blogs how they get traffic or how do they market there stuff. Things that can benefit your blog don't just rely posting lots of content.

Friend,

If you write just for the sake of writing (whether you practice or like to), go ahead write away!

But if your goal is to, ultimately, make an impact and/or make money, listen to what the people is telling you. Find your audience, check the waters (so to say), and if it looks that someone is interesting in what you have to say/write, fire away! Then think how to engage them more, build the list, monetize your blog and you list. Those are essentials.
