I keep hearing things about Skype chat rooms for solo ads and other things, but there aren't any that I can find. Skype discontinued chat a while ago.

Are these people running older versions or what am I missing here?

Usually those that are still active in Skype are using a version they downloaded in 2006.

It's just not the same since the company discontinued chat on it.

At least we still have Windows Messenger to fill the void left by Skype Chat, right?

Interesting! Are there any people using Skype as a marketing tool like I have heard? Jason Fladlien says in his latest course there is a way to do this?

I know tons of people that use skype to communicate and sell online... miss the old days, when aol had good topics on chat rooms, you could even network business without a problem and them became the spam rooms.

I used it today too, and belong to several of the rooms asked about,
and even started several private ones

Willie! You ruined the ruse! lol

Everyone listen to Willie, he's a straight shooter. I, on the other hand, have been known to mess with people. Oh, the shame of it all!

Well, I've been known to mess with people too Michael, but I was just
agreeing with Robin... as I wondered if my Skype was perhaps way
          out of date

To the person asking how to find them, you generally get invited to
them since different people start them for different purposes, and then
invite people who have something in common into them (clients, JV
partners, members of some club, etc.).

Unless I am mistaken, group membership is restricted to around 300
members???? so they really active ones often fill up fast.

The conversation scrolls in many groups MUCH faster than in the WSO
section... and it's not threaded... so it can be difficult to follow

All the cool kids hang out in my Skype chat groups. But we eat spammers for breakfast and take their lunch money.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

You are correct Willie it is limited to 300 and they do require that you have to be invited to them as well. But who's to stop you from creating a subscription button on your site. Once one fills up you just create another one.

It is great a way to get a very targeted audience on those lists and make some cash quickly.

This link states that Skype chat is no longer supported.

So I must be invited to a private chat room by someone else.

        Thanks.

To my understanding, it's private Skype chat groups, not chat "rooms" per se, that people start. I believe it's as simple as inviting multiple people into a chat group, someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

    Best,
    Shane

    Yeah what Shane said.

It's just Skype text but people are forming groups and adding people to them.

Pretty powerful way to market and network.

I don't really know what I'm missing here. Is Skype chat room like a skype window? Or can you chat with anyone on the chat room even though they aren't on your list?

Well from what I can tell, you just type in the message and it joins the stream, much like on Twitter, and you might also use the person's name whose attention you're trying to get or whose message you're responding and hope they see it.

I have found some of the groups I've been part of next to impossible to follow unless I want to make skype a full-time gig. I mostly keep it turned off now to avoid the distraction.

Skype chat "rooms" are simply conversations that multiple people are having simultaneously. You get invited into the "rooms" where people discuss multiple issues from solo ads, WSOs and other ways to make money. I'm a member in a few, and some of the information you can get from them is invaluable.

Just wanted to drop a line to any that are interested, Skype Group Marketing is alive and well, If you know how to do it, you can add people to a skype group room at the very same time as they register for your list.

Skype group rooms allow you to interact with your list in a totally different way. Live update reactions to your IM's and the sky is the limit. With google tabs still up in the air, if they will or will not hurt email response rates, staying a head of the curve is not a bad idea.

So good luck to all and happy skyping (having flash backs of having my lunch money taken from me in school lol)
