Converting a HTML site to Wordpress...

I want to change my company website from HTML to Wordpress. I was planning to do it this way:

- Create a Wordpress site on a directory (www.domain.com/wp/)
- Fill it up with content, test to ensure that it is running fine
- "Port" over the full Wordpress content to root domain name

Now have anyone tried porting the entire Wordpress site to root domain name?

  • There are many tools you can use to clone a Wordpress install and place it wherever you like. I use a paid tool called WPTwin.

I believe there are some cheap or free solutions such as Backup Buddy but I've never used them myself.

    But it's definitely possible.
  • Or you could just move the test site files to the root with FTP, or cpanel file manager.

Shouldn't need to change the database settings, just move the files over.

  • Same here, I use wptwin and it works like a charm.

After you have tested and completed your subdirectory wp site, just simply clone it and deploy the clone file in your root directory.

Just check wptwin for more info.

    Break a leg.
  • Or you could use html2wp which is a Wordpress plugin that converts HTML to WP from a fresh WP install, it's simple, but I would not use it on a site that has lots of pages. It's fine for a small website like 5 to 7 pages, or a landing or sales page with legal pages, but larger sites might be a little time consuming.
