Started An Ecommerce Website... But No Traffic

I started an ecommerce website about 6 months ago.

I did the niche research, I did careful competitor analysis, and everything looked great. - saw lots of potential

I purchased a few products on SEO to understand the basics but realized this was something that had to be mastered and I didn't want to deal with it.

So, I hired an SEO company (reputable) to do it for me. They have a guaranteed program where I only pay for keywords they rank me for, after a small startup fee, etc

I wanted to do PPC but the cost per click are just unbelievable in this market. It would take a very high conversion rate + a strong backend + lots of good luck to make PPC work.

My plan was to just use SEO then...

Now 3-4 months later after hiring this SEO company I have lots of links pointing to my site, tons of articles out there, and it's obvious they've been working... my alexa rank is now in the top 500k from being 'not available' 4 months ago.

Problem: I still don't get more then 100 daily uniques per day. It's usually around the 45 - 60 visitors per day.

I'm not sure what to do next? I put so much work into this site, hiring & paying for SEO, and losing money on PPC.

I'm frustrated at this point... what do I do?

Some niches are harder to break into than others, and may explain your SEO trouble.

What is your niche, if you don't mind me asking?

If you don't want to announce it publicly, feel free to private message me.

Either way, i'll help you out

Sounds like you picked a bad niche...or your SEO firm are targeting the wrong keywords.

So, my first questions are, how did you decide on:

    a) the niche
    b) the keywords

    Questions for your SEO company...

    a) Where are you ranking for your keywords?
    b) Why aren't you getting a ton of traffic from 'random but related' keywords?

How much content do you have?

    How do you deliver it?

Are you using articles? Videos? RSS? Press Releases?

How are those 100 people finding you? Google?

Seriously, SEO ain't that hard. Write stuff regularly. That's about it.

There are other traffic methods that you may find to be less expensive. For example:

    1) Create a YouTube video. Place a link under the "More info" section and direct your viewers to the link at the end of each video.
    2) Hire an article writer and submit the articles to Ezine Articles. Quality articles can usually be purchased for $6-$7 each. These articles will likely send you traffic for years to come. (You may also write your own articles, of course).

It sounds like hiring an SEO company and using pay per click could get a bit expensive. Hopefully the two methods I've mentioned above will save you some $$$$$.

If nothing else, at least test your pay per click ads in small increments to make sure they are profitable before spending a wad of cash on them.

    Hope this helps,
    James

I'm in a luxury product niche.

The keywords aren't as competitive as many would imagine.

I decided on the niche because I knew it really well and I looked at the competition doing really well with similar products that I could source.

I have a blog, articles area, and have content on all the major article directories, squidoo, hubpages, etc

    40% from google
    30% from msn
    30% from yahoo

I don't know what products you are selling, but using eBay as a lead generation source might be effective.

For example, sell some of your products on eBay, and with each order include information about your website where they can place additional orders.
You can also setup autoresponders to notify your eBay customers of specials, etc...

This is a very simple approach of course, and it may or may not work depending on your niche.
